Understanding Contextual Factors Associated to Sexual Harassment on Bogota’s Public Transport

Abstract

Sexual harassment (SH) on public transport is a prevalent problem that limits the full access of women to the city. Nevertheless, few is known on this issue due to the lack of data. A nascent line of investigation based on environmental criminology has found evidence to demonstrate how contextual factors impact on the occurrence of SH. However, there are no studies utilizing data statistically significant at the city level. Therefore, this thesis through a logistic regression model analyzes the determinants of sexual harassment on public transport by using the 2019 Origin-Destination Household Survey of Bogota. Results indicated that embarked on long distance trips are more at risk of sexual harassment on public transport which could potentially be facilitated given the productive structure of transport planning in the city. This study also highlights and gives recommendations on SH data collection. ;대중교통 내 성추행은 여성의 도시 접근을 제한하는 대중적 문제이나, 이러한 사실은 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 환경범죄학을 기반한 초기 조사는 성추행 발생에 맥락적 요인 가 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 입증하는 증거를 찾았다. 그러나 통계적으로 중요 의미가 있는 데이터를 활용한 연구는 없었다. 따라서 이 논문은 로지스틱 회귀 모델을 통해 대중교통 내에 성희롱의 결정적 요인을 ‘2019 출발지 도착지보고타’ 조사를 활용하여 분석했고, 그 결과는 장거리 이동은 대중 교통 내 성희롱 발생 위험성이 더 높으며, 이연구는 많은 사람들에게 관심을 유도하며, 대중교통 내 성추행에 대한 자료를 제공한다.
