성경적 근거에 따른 음악의 기능 분석

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 구약성경 안에 사용된 음악의 기능이 기존에 연구된 음악기능에 대한 성서적 근거가 무엇인지 알아보고 이에 대한 자료를 고찰하는 것이다. 구약성경의 이야기 속 음악의 기능이 무엇인지 내용 안에서 음악사용의 유형, 활용 맥락과 배경, 그리고 사용 목적과 음악의 기능이 무엇인지 내용 분석을 진행하였다. 구약성경 총 39권 안에서 연구자가 설정한 ‘악기연주’와 ‘노래부르기’ 중심으로 이와 관련된 음악적 키워드에 따라 검색된 전체 성경구절 789개의 구절 중 음악의 기능을 하고 있는 성경구절을 175개의 구절의 내용 분석을 통한 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 구약 성경 안에서 사용된 음악의 유형 두 가지는 악기연주와 노래부르기 형태로 나누었다. 분석 결과, 구약성경 안에서 악기연주 관련 165구절(29.42%), 노래부르기 관련 396구절(70.58%)로 구약성경 안에서의 언급된 음악의 비율은 노래부르기 유형이 악기연주의 유형보다 약2.5배 많이 사용된 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 악기연주의 경우, 성전예배와 제사 의식, 언약궤의 이동, 왕의 임명식, 그리고 성전 건축의 시작과 완공된 이후에 상황에서 감사와 기쁨을 표현하기 위해 사용된 것을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 전쟁의 상황에서의 나팔 악기가 주로 사용되었으며, 전쟁의 시작과 끝을 알리는 신호적 역할과 군대 또는 백성들을 소집하고 응집시키는 역할로 사용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 노래부르기의 경우, 하나님께 간구를 올려드리는 상황, 개인적 상황, 그리고 국가적 상황 안에서 하나님의 성품을 찬양하기 위해 음악이 사용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 내용 분석 결과, 구약성경에서 사용된 음악의 기능을 총 12가지로 규명하여 살펴볼 수 있었다. 연구자가 규명한 12가지 음악의 기능과 비율은 문화 의식 표현 기능(19.5%)이 가장 높게 나왔으며, 신의 성품 표현 기능(15.4%), 개인 고백 기능(14.8%), 사회적 신호 기능(11.8%), 신적 신호 기능(10.7%), 국가적 신호 기능(8.9%), 응집 기능(8.3%), 내용전달 기능(3.6%), 예언 기능(2.4%), 감정 표현 기능(1.8%), 심리 치유 기능(1.8%), 마지막으로 형성 기능(1.2%)의 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 구약성경 안에 사용된 음악의 사용 목적이 무엇인지, 음악이 어떠한 기능을 하였는지 내용 분석을 통해 알아봄으로써 음악과 인간의 관계와 음악을 치료도구로 사용하는 음악치료 분야의 전문성 향상에 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. ;The purpose of this study is to find out musical functions in the Old Testament and to examine its analyzed data. An analysis of musical functions within the stories of the Old Testament was conducted by investigating the types of music usage, utilized contexts and backgrounds, and the purpose of the usage and musical functions. Within a total of 39 books in the Old Testament, ‘instruments’ and ‘songs’ set by the researcher are focused, and according to its related musical key words, out of the whole 789 bible verses, 175 bible verses that reflect musical functions are analyzed and its consequence of the analysis is as follow. First, two musical types used in the Old Testament are instrument-playing and singing. As a result, the analysis revealed that in the Old Testament, there were 165 verses related to the type of instrument-playing at 29.42% whereas the type of singing was mentioned in 396 verses at 70.58%. Thus, the ratio of music mentioned in the Old Testament indicated that the type of singing was mentioned 2.5 times more than the type of instrument-playing. Second, instrument-playing was used in expression of appreciation and joy within those contexts such as temple worship and religious rituals, the movement of the Covenant, King's coronation, and the beginning and after completion of temple construction. Additionally, trumpet instrument was often used in warlike situations, playing the role to signal the start and end of the war and to call and cohere the army and the people. In terms of singing, in the context of praying, music was used to praise God's personality within personal and national contexts. Third, according to the result of the context analysis, it is examined that there is a total of 12 musical functions used in the Old Testament. Within its 12 musical functions examined by the researcher, musical functions used in the Old Testament were found as follow: the function of expressing cultural awareness(19.5%) being the highest, the function of expressing God's personality(15.4%), the function of personal confession(14.8%), the function of social signal(11.8%), the function of divine signal(10.7%), the function of national signal(8.9%), the function of cohesion(8.3%), the function of content delivery(3.6%), the function of prophesy(2.4%), the function of expressing feeling(1.8%), the function of psychological healing(1.8%), and lastly, the function of formation(1.2%). As this study examines the purpose of musical usage in the Old Testament via text analysis, it is meaningful for the relation of music and humans as well as the professional advancement of the field in music therapy that uses music as a healing tool.
