욕망과 마주하기

Abstract

본 논문은 욕망이라는 감정으로 인해 아무것도 할 수 없는 무기력의 상태에서 벗어나고자 하는 의지의 표현으로, 연구자의 개인적 경험에서 시작하였다. 욕망이란, 자신에게 없는 것을 원하는 인간의 마음을 가리킨다. 이것은 인간이 가진 본능적인 감정으로, 삶에 있어서 앞을 향해 나아갈 수 있는 동력이 되어주고 열정적인 에너지를 발산시켜준다. 하지만 연구자에게 있어 욕망은 하나의 대상에 대한 집착으로 다른 생산적인 것들은 아무것도 할 수 없게 만드는 부정적인 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구자의 욕망은 스스로의 ‘몸의 이미지’를 향해 있었고, 몸이 가질 수 있는 완벽한 이상적인 이미지에 닿기 위해 노력했다. 역설적이게도 마른 몸을 갈망할수록 음식에 향한 욕망이 강렬하게 나타났다. 이 대립적인 대상을 향한 욕망으로 끝없이 소모되는 감정적 에너지를 발전적 에너지로 전환하고자 한다. 연구를 통해 욕망이라는 감정을 보다 자세히 이해하고, 예술 작업 과정 속에서 욕망과 마주하고자 하였다. 먼저 욕망에 대해 이론적으로 정립하기 위해 정신분석가 자크 라캉Jacque Lacan의 욕망이론을 살펴보았다. 라캉은 추상적이고 모호한 욕망의 존재방식을 이해할 수 있도록 언어학적 관점에서 접근하여 이론적으로 정립하였다. 그의 이론을 통해 무한히 존재하는 욕망의 본질과 속성에 대해 살펴보았다. 다음으로 르네 지라르Rene Girard의 욕망의 삼각형 이론을 통해 개인의 욕망이 사회의 관계 속에서 모방적인 모습으로 나타나, 경쟁적으로 가중 된다는 ‘모방적 욕망’에 대해 살펴보았다. 이러한 내용을 기반으로 연구자의 몸에 대한 강박과 집착, 음식을 향한 갈망을 사회적 관점으로 살펴보면서 현대 소비 사회에서 보여지는 몸이 가지는 의미에 대해 알아보았다. ‘사회-욕망-몸’의 끊어질 수 없는 관계에 대해 알아봄으로써, 한 개인의 몸과 정신은 그 시대를 담아 표현하는 것으로, 몸을 향한 욕망과 그로 인한 문제가 연구자 개인만의 문제가 아님을 알 수 있었다. 욕망의 형태가 예술을 통해 어떻게 표현 되었는지 알아보기 위해 개인적 경험에서 느낀 욕망을 예술로 승화한 Lee price와 김민주 작가의 작품을 통해 시각적으로 표현된 욕망의 모습을 살펴보았다. 이러한 이론적 내용을 바탕으로, 부정적 감정으로 다가온 욕망을 예술로 전환 시킨다는 점에서 연구자의 작업을 욕망의 전환이라고 이름 붙여 설명한다. 연구자의 작업은 욕망으로 인한 고뇌의 표현이며, 욕망을 마주하기 위한 여정이다. 인체를 통한 표정과 몸짓으로 연구자의 감정을 전달하고, 욕망의 대상을 달콤한 음식으로 상징적으로 표현함으로써 욕망이 의미하는 바를 전달하고자 하였다. 작업을 통한 시각적인 표현 안에서 본인의 감정과 마주함으로써 연구자가 간절히 원해 온 대상이 닿을 수 없는 환상임을 깨달을 수 있었다. 연구 과정을 통해 연구자의 결핍이 스스로가 부족해서가 아니기에 자책할 필요가 없다는 점을 깨달았고, 욕망이라는 것은 결코 충족 될 수 없다는 것, 이것을 받아들이고 인정하는 시간을 가진다면 욕망으로부터 조금은 유연해 질 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.;A study started from the personal experience of the researcher as an expression of the will to escape from the state of helplessness, unable to do anything due to the emotion of desire. Desire refers to the human mind that wants what it doesn't have. This is the instinctive emotion of human beings, and it is the driving force to move forward in life and radiates passionate energy. But for researchers, desire has been shown to have a negative impact on obsession with one object, making other productive ones unable to do anything. The researcher's desire was toward his “image of the body” and tried to reach the perfect ideal image that the body could have. Paradoxically, the craving for a skinny body, the stronger the desire for food. The desire for this conflicting object aims to transform the emotional energy consumed endlessly into the developmental energy. Through the study, I tried to understand the emotion of desire in more detail and to face desire in the process of art work. First, we examined the theory of desire of psychoanalyst Jacque Lacan to establish the theory theoretically about desire. Lacan approached and explained from the linguistic point of view to understand the way of abstract and ambiguous desire. Through his theory, we examined the nature and nature of infinite desire. Next, through Rene Girard's triangular theory of desire, we examined the 'imitation desire', in which an individual's desire appears as an imitation in social relations and is weighted competitively. Based on these contents, we looked into the obsession, obsession with the researcher's body, and the desire for food from a social point of view, and examined the meaning of the body seen in the modern consumer society. By learning about the inseparable relationship of 'society-desire-body', the body and spirit of an individual expresses the era, and the desire for the body and the resulting problems are not the only problems of the researcher. And it was found. Based on this theoretical content, the researcher's work was described. The researcher's work is an expression of anguish caused by desire, and a journey toward desire. The purpose of this study was to convey the researcher's emotions through facial expressions and gestures through the human body, and to express the meaning of desires by symbolically expressing the object of desire. By confronting his emotions in the visual expression through his work, he was able to realize that the object that the researcher has longed for is an unreachable illusion. Through the research process, I realized that the researcher's deficiency was not due to lack of myself, and that I didn't have to blame myself.
