식물의 유기적 형태를 표현한 자수 드로잉 연구

Abstract

인간의 삶은 자연 안에서 이루어지기 때문에 다양한 영역에서 자연의 영향을 받게 되며 인간의 예술 활동 역시 그 영향을 받게 된다. 예술가는 자신의 삶 과 경험을 바탕으로 자연을 받아들임으로서 그것을 표현하는 양상이 달라지게 된다. 조형예술연구를 통해 작품을 하는 연구자에게 자연은 관심의 대상이며 영감의 원천이다. 특히 자연의 여러 현상 가운데 유기적 형상을 지닌 씨앗, 꽃잎, 식물 줄기의 단면, 버섯의 갓과 같은 섬세하고 아름다운 식물의 형태들 은 연구자의 작품에 중요한 소재로 등장한다. 본 논문은 자연의 수많은 형상 중에서도 식물의 유기적 형태와 이를 구성하 고 있는 조형적인 요소인 선에 대해 관찰하고 탐구한다. 점과 점, 그것을 연 결하는 곡선이 가진 아름다움을 작품에 적용하여 연구자의 조형적 관점을 전 달하고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 점에서 식물의 유기적 형태로부터 얻어지는 점과 선의 형태를 통해 드로잉과 자수 기법이라는 각기 다른 영역인 회화와 공예의 융합적 조형 작품 제작에 중점을 두었다. 두 영역간의 작업 특성은 사각형의 프레임 공간 안에 서 드로잉과 자수의 반복을 통해 식물의 유기적 형태를 표현하며, 점과 선의 응집과 확장으로 공간을 구성하여 작품 안에서 식물의 여러 이미지를 시각화 한 것이다. 식물의 유기적 개념에 대해서는 생명체가 지닌 아름다움과 그 의미를 살펴 본 후 유기적 형태에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 식물을 형성하는 요소의 반복적 표현에 대해 살펴보았다. 이러한 반복이라는 요소를 통해 무한 공간으로 확장 하는 영역을 표현하였다. 작품의 주요 모티브로 표현된 씨앗은 모든 생명체의 근원으로써 상징성을 가 지며 다양한 변화를 주는 표현 소재이다. 씨앗이라는 소재가 가진 표현의 요 소를 다른 조형예술작품들의 사례를 통해 분석, 비교하는 과정을 통해 식물의 유기적 형태의 조형성을 보다 구체화 시키고 그 미적 가치를 탐구하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 표현방법으로는 식물을 구성하는 선을 표현하기 위해 드로잉과 자수에 대해 연구하고, 실을 매체로 한 자수기법이 나타내는 점과 선의 응집과 확장을 통 해 표현된 질감과 섬유의 부조적인 효과에 대해 살펴보았다. 또한 캔버스의 표현재료로 사용한 실크, 면, 종이 등의 특성을 각각 분석하여 표현매체로서 재료들의 발전 가능성을 확인하였다. 식물은 정적으로 보이지만 생동적이며 유동적인 성질을 지니고 있으며, 관찰 자의 시점에 따라 안으로 수축되거나, 안에서 밖으로 뻗어 나가는 양상을 보 이기도 한다. 본 연구를 통해 식물의 유기적 형태에 대해 다시 한 번 개념을 정리하고, 본인이 관찰한 식물의 유기체를 점과 선, 드로잉과 자수를 이용하 여 다양하게 구사할 수 있는 기회가 되었다. 이를 통해 창작은 본인이 추구하 는 조형 작업이 공예적 방법과 융합하여 창조적 가치를 실현시킬 수 있는 수 단이자 표현 언어임을 확인할 수 있었다.;Mother nature affects human beings in many ways. Artistic activities such as painting, drawing, crafts and sculpture are also influenced by the natural environment. Each artist has a different way to express himself or herself based on their own life and the experiences that environment contributes. For me, nature is the most interesting subject and organic forms obtained from the natural world are a rich source of inspiration as an artist. In this context, drawings with textiles that express the organic forms of plants such as seed, petal, stem cross-section have become a main subject in the production of artworks. Additionally, this study will focus on the production of art pieces that were modelled by combining drawing and embroidery technique through the form of dots and lines obtained from organic forms of plants. By constructing a space with the combination and expansion of dots and lines, the images seen through various shapes of plants were visualised. In addition to the repetition of drawing and embroidering, the organic forms of the plants were expressed on canvas. Through the research process, the following conclusions can be drawn: First, This study considers Organic Concept and Drawing as a technique. Creating art works using the organic concept is an opportunity to learn the formative aesthetic by repetition of the organic shapes found in nature. Second, In expressing the organic form of plants based on the understanding of organic concept and drawing, the texture of embroidery gives a three-dimensional effect like a relief in sculpture that cannot be seen in simple drawing work. Through this, the artist can express his or her perception and extension of physical space in art works. Particularly in embroidery, it is possible to express a unique texture by changing in the type, thickness, and colour of the thread, and this leads to the expansion of new techniques. Furthermore, with the combination of drawing and embroidery, this study finds a new way to express the organic forms of plants and contemplates its sustain ability as an art technique. Third, Thread is an appropriate material for expressing dots and lines for the art works in this research. Dots working together can form an endless variety of arrangements and expansions as they can become lines. Curves are mainly used to show this process smoothly and stably, and this is repeatedly performed. In addition, the formative effect shown in the art works can be rich and diverse depending on the composition of the textile used as a background (canvas) and the embroidery stitches. Hence, this study suggests that the thread is useful as a medium in the formative arts. As shown above, this embroidery drawing research using drawing and embroidery redefines the concept of the organic form of plants. The combination of embroidery and drawing created for this study demonstrates that the scope of formative arts can be expressed not only in two-dimensional space but also in three-dimensional space. It evokes creativity and inspiration in artists. Thus, further research into embroidery drawings that encourages challenging and experimental art concepts and techniques need to be done.
