- Abstract
Because of the growth of e-commerce markets and competition among companies to hold on to customers, various recommendation approaches have been studied for driving customers to consume. Recently, the recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are frequently used for developing the recommendation system by analyzing the behavior patterns of users. One of the advantages of RNNs is to handle temporal dependency within the individual, so it is available to predict the next item based on the earlier sessions. In this study, we investigate the performance of the recommendation system based on RNNs with log data showing an individual's online behaviors.
To improve the performance of prediction, we consider additional predictors such as dwelling time and weighted rating values with the count of user's behavior. Among RNNs, we found that the proposed method based on the gated recurrent unit (GRU) outperforms in terms of recall@20 and MRR@20. RecSys’15 challenge dataset (YOOCHOOSE dataset) are considered to illustrate the application of the proposed method.
