Abstract
I. Introduction •Purpose: To create a task-based textbook for 6th grade elementary students in Korea who are enrolled in summer camps at English academies. •Rationale: This textbook will focus on learning about non-traditional sports, which will serve as the content across the units, with the intention of preparing students to actually play the varied sports as their final tasks. Since the target students are taking this course during their vacation period, they should be able to have fun and enjoy while learning English. This textbook is designed to provide English academies with a systematic curriculum based on the development of communicative competence through fun, yet scaffolded activities and tasks that will break away from solely focusing on textbook completion in the classroom. •Target Learners: 6th grade elementary students (12-13 years old, mixed gender) •Proficiency Level: Intermediate Low to Mid (ACTFL) •Learning Context: Summer camps at English academies in Korea II. Method Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) III. Expected Outcomes Students will understand and learn to follow simple directions Students will demonstrate fair play and good sportsmanship Students will be able to immediately apply the language they have learned while playing games with others Students will improve their aim, hand-eye coordination and their logical thinking Students will develop interaction skills
