Empowerment, the sovereignty of women and the advancement of their social and economic conditions is a highly significant matter in itself (UNFPA 1994).Kabeer (2000) claimed that the majority of women workers in garment factories expressed positive impacts because they got improvement compared to previous life before employment. Then again, these garment firms as market strategies of the neoliberal policies would ignore rights of labor and citizen including the minimum for all costs, wages and welfares, and taxes to investors or capitalists in order to give the highest satisfaction and profits for doing business in their countries (Yimprasert and Hveem 2005). Despite the aforementioned contradictions, the number of women workers newly entering into the garment industry gets increased not only in Myanmar but also in Southeast Asian countries (International Labour Organization 2015, Huynh 2017). Hence, the present study thinks of studying the impact of employment in the garment industry on individual female workers that could shed some light on our understanding of driving factors for women to work in this industry. Myanmar garment sector was considered as the case study to investigate this inquiry at a micro-level. Moreover, this research is worked by formulating Kabeer's conceptualization of empowerment framework and this framework identically assures that the contribution of the Myanmar garment industry empowered female labors. Finally, the result shows that they obtained the job opportunities, financial independence, and freedom actions such as better livelihood patterns, getting involved in decision-making, power over expenditure.
