Abstract
Today, paper is not only a simple information and image delivery but also an expressive medium that plays an indispensable role in modern sculpture art. The folding of such paper is the most basic method of papermaking, which is easily accessible, light, easy to handle, and can express a variety of images. The origami is widely used in the art of sculpture because it is capable of multi-dimensional representation ranging from flat surfaces to three-dimensional stereoscopic sculptures. These origami represent a variety of geometrical forms, which fall into the category of geometric shapes and can express simple and lucid modelling emotions of geometric shapes and forms. This is considered suitable as a creative motif in modern fashion design as it can be applied in overall silhouette and form as well as expression by the repetitive composition of individual units. This research aims to further expand the world of creative expression in fashion design by analyzing the formative beauty of paper folding into simple and clear geometric forms, large-scale rhythmic and straight-line formations, and applying them to fashion design centering on geometric form representation. The contents of this study are as follows. Chapter I presents an introduction to the purpose and significance, content and method of the study. Chapter II examines the origin and type of technique of origami as a theoretical consideration and analyzes the formative beauty. It then looks at the applications of origami in modern fashion design. In addition, since the work of this study is largely defined as geometrical form, the definitions and concepts of this study are examined, the components and expressiveness are presented, and the examples of geometric formations shown in fashion are investigated and analyzed. In Chapter III a polyester tie-back, which is considered suitable for expressing the formulation of origami, was made of a component unit, i.e. a unit, which is relatively free of folding. A total of five pieces of work are produced and presented by applying the formative beauty of various origami in a flat or three-dimensional fashion to a geometric form of clothing. The conclusion of this study through the production of the work is as follows. First, by expressing the linear formative beauty, geometric form and multi-faceted yuldongmi in fashion design, we can see that origami is a motif that can open up infinite design possibilities. Second, origami could be shaped in a flat, incongruous and three-dimensional way when applied to fashion design. Floor-planar techniques could give rich material texture to the clothing surface depending on how it was used, and the non-adjacent folding method could give the surface a three-dimensional surface feel. In particular, the three-dimensional application allowed the creative construction of the silhouette of the costumes. Third, by incorporating origami into the geometric form and the fashion design of silhouette, we found that the clear and concise aesthetic characteristics of the geometric form were further strengthened and harmonized. Fourth, the light and tough polyester ingredient, which is easy to fold, was well exposed to the sleek lines and straightness characteristic of origami, and it proved suitable as a clothing material that applied origami. Fifth, motifs showing both sides together according to the direction of folds could give dynamism and be more stereoscopic by colorimizing them according to design. The above results confirmed that various methods of origami can be expressed in original fashion design by embodying geometric form representation. As a result, if we continue to research and experiment with more diverse origami methods and expressive techniques that combine complex forms of sculpture, we hope to open up a wide range of creative new design possibilities.
