품바의 구조와 의미 연구

Abstract

The purpose of the study is analyzing structure and meaning of Pumba. Through discussing the structure and meaning of Pumba, this study explores social, traditional, cultural value of the Pumba. This study focuses on the performance space of Pumba which is formed through interaction behavior between the audience and the performers at the outdoor stage, a flexible space. And it’s the key of this study. The Pumba had been called various names according to the cultural background. So, this study figured out how the Pumba has got the present name Pumba by literature review. In order to assume a research perspective for analyzing the structure and meaning of the Pumba, the performance space of the Pumba was divided into macroscopic and microscopic structures using the concept of the performance space of performance studies. To demonstrate it, this study is limited to Beodeuri Pumba that shows that structure clear. The results of the study on the structures of Beodeuri Pumba are as follows. First, an interaction between the audience and the performers through laughing and contact, Second, crossing the boundary between social and dramatic roles of performers, Third, the trot song and flexible space, and Fourth, different types of participation according to the audience types. In connection with this, the meaning of Beodeuri Pumba were found to be ‘the space of forming a sense of community’, ‘the space of Shinmyung Puri’, and ‘the space of keeping their faces through ritual behavior’. In conclusion, Pumba gets the meaning while performers interact with audience. Laughing, dancing, getting a tip those behavior are important mechanism and they are the bases that makes the performance possible. Also, one of the meaning of Pumba that ‘the space of keeping their faces through ritual behavior’ is connected to the identity of Pumba. Because the point that the audience and the performers interact with each other through interaction behavior by rituals and form a performance space based on it is not found in other performances contemporary. ;본 연구의 목적은 품바의 구조와 의미를 분석하고 이를 통해 품바의 사회적, 전통적, 문화적 가치를 논의하는 것이다. 본 연구는 현대 사회에서 대중문화의 공연 영역이 가진 영향력의 확장과 더불어 사람의 몸과 행위(behavior)를 집중적으로 다루는 무용학이 대중문화 공연 연구에 적합한 학문적 배경을 가지고 있다는 판단과 학문적, 문화적으로 주변화되어 있음에도 중년들의 문화로 자리매김하고 있는 품바에 대한 연구의 필요성 아래 시작되었다. 연구는 야외 장소 가설 무대의 유동적인 공간에서 관객과 연행자 간 상호작용 행위를 통해 품바의 공연 공간이 형성된다는 것에 초점을 맞추어 전개되었으며, 이는 본 연구의 시작과 끝을 관통하는 핵심이라 볼 수 있다. 문화사적 배경에서는 품바가 시대의 문화적 배경에 따라 다르게 지칭되어 온 점을 고려하여 어떠한 과정을 거쳐 지금의 품바로 지칭하게 되었는지를 문헌 연구를 통해 파악하였다. 품바의 구조와 의미를 분석하기 위한 연구 시각을 상정하기 위해 공연학의 공연 공간 개념을 빌어 품바의 공연 공간을 거시적 구조와 미시적 구조로 구분하였고, 이를 논증하기 위해 그러한 구조가 가장 잘 드러난다고 판단되는 버드리 품바에 제한하여 현장 연구와 유튜브 기록물을 중심으로 실제 사례를 전사하는 방식으로 수행되었다. 분석 결과 버드리 품바의 구조는 첫째, 접촉·웃음을 통한 상호작용, 둘째, 역할 경계 넘나들며 재담을 보이고 관객의 웃음 유발, 셋째, 테크노 뽕짝 풍의 음악 및 유동적인 공연 공간과 관광버스 춤, 넷째, 관객의 유형에 따른 참여 형태 상이함으로 나타났으며, 이와 결부하여 도출된 버드리 품바의 의미는 ‘공동체적 유대감 형성 공간’, ‘신명풀이의 공간’, ‘체면을 지켜주는 의례적 공간’ 으로 나타났다. 결론적으로 관객과 연행자의 상호작용 사이에서 품바의 의미가 형성되며, 웃음, 춤, 팁 주고받기 행위는 품바의 주요 메커니즘인 동시에 품바가 공연으로 수행될 수 있는 조직적인 기반을 마련하는 것으로 파악하였다. 또한 관객과 연행자가 의례적인 행위를 통해 상호작용을 생성하고 그것을 기반으로 공연 공간이 형성되는 것은 현 시대의 여타 공연에서는 발견하기 어려운 특성이라는 점에서, 품바가 서로의 ‘체면을 지켜주는 의례적 공간’ 이라는 의미는 품바의 문화적 정체성과 결부되는 것으로 분석하였다. 본 연구는 그간 학계에서 공연 장르로서 연구가 미미했던 지역 축제의 가설 무대에서 수행되는 품바를 공연 장르로서 전제하고, 품바에 참여하는 사람들의 행위에 주목하여 미시적인 측면들을 공연의 의미와 정체성으로 도출하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
