무용작품 「나만의 향」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2018년 12월 6일 이화여자대학교 홀 1에서 발표한 본 연구자의 무용작품「나만의 향」을 안무하는 전반적인 과정과 결과를 구체적으로 분석하고 연구한 논문이다. 이에 따라 논문의 서론을 통해 연구의 목적과 필요성, 연구방법 및 제한점을 먼저 밝히고 본론을 통해 작품의 핵심 개념 서술과 작품「나만의 향」의 구체적인 연구와 분석이 이루어진다. 파트리크 쥐스킨트의 소설『향수』를 바탕으로 창작된「나만의 향」의 연구는 안무자 소개와 안무 의도, 작품 분석으로 나뉘며, 그중에서도 특히 작품「나만의 향」의 분석은 작품을 구성하는 예술적 요소 분석과 움직임의 심층분석으로 구분하여 주제의식이 형상화되는 과정을 더욱 집중적으로 기술하고자 하였다. 무용작품의 안무 의도는 다음과 같다. 타인의 시선을 중요시하는 현대사회에서 나의 자아정체성을 상실하는 문제는 반복되어 일어나며 이는 또 다른 사회적 문제들을 발생시키는 원인으로 작용한다. 안무자는 주체적인 자아정체성이 확립되지 못한 데서 비롯되는 현대인의 괴로움과 무기력함이 소설 속 주인공 그루누이가 자신의 본질적인 결핍을 마주했을 때 오는 충격, 혼란과 비슷하다고 생각했고 단순히 소설의 줄거리와 흐름, 소설 속 주인공의 감정을 전달하는 것이 작품의 목적이 아니라, 진정한 자아의 발견과 성숙은 어디에서부터 오는 가에 대한 근본적인 의문에 스스로 답하기 위해 끊임없이 사유하고 연구하여 안무자의 소설에 대한 재해석과 그 과정에서 느꼈던 여러 가지 감정을 예술작품으로 형상화했다. 1장 <동굴>에서는 소설 속에서 주인공을 위한 절대 왕국이면서도 사회로부터의 도피처로 쓰이는‘동굴’이라는 소재의 이중적 이미지를 차용하여 사회가 요구하는 틀에 갇혀 나의 자아를 들여다보지 못한 채 살아가는 현대인의 모습을 오브제를 활용한 동작으로 담아내었다. 2장인 <결핍>에서는 자신이 무취 상태의 인간이라는 충격과 괴로움이 천사의 향기를 향한 집착으로 이어지며 24번의 살인을 저지르는 주인공의 광적인 모습과 연결하여 본질적 자아를 마주한 내가 나의 결핍을 인지하게 되어 겪게 되는 내적 갈등을 표현했다. 마지막 장인 3장에서는 주인공이 천사의 향기를 입은 채 세상의 모든 사랑이 대상이 되는 순간 다시 마주한 본질적 결핍에서 나오는 괴로움과 덧없음, 그리고 끝내 자살을 선택하고 마는 극단적인 결말에서 벗어나 나의 본질적인 결핍을 있는 그대로 인정하고 극복하여 성숙 된 자아로 다시 태어났음을 표현한다. 특히 3장에서는 카타르시스를 느끼는 무용수의 감정이 최대치로 발현된 장으로 1장과 2장을 통해 쌓아왔던 감정을 춤으로 해소시키기 위한 움직임의 절정에 이르는 순간이다. 결과적으로 안무자는 작품「나만의 향」을 통해 현대사회를 살아가면서 타인의 시선에 맞추어 살아가기보다는 나의 본질적 결핍을 인정하고 내 진정한 자아가 원하는 바를 먼저 추구할 수 있는 용기를 얻게 되었고 현대인들이 사회적 틀에서 벗어나 주체적으로 자아정체성을 확립하여 더 나은 삶을 살아갈 수 있음을 말하고자 한다. 또한, 본 연구를 통해 안무자의 작품을 스스로 분석하여 자기성찰의 기회로 삼아 안무자의 예술적 가치관을 확립한 것에 의의가 있다.;The research focuses on the process and the results of 「My Own Scent」 which was conducted in Hall 1 of Ewha Womans University in December 6th, 2018. Introduction of the novel expresses the necessity and purpose of the research, research method and limitations, and the body part of the research leads to the explanation of choreography’s main notion as well as the analysis of 「My Own Scent」. The research, based on Patrick Süskind’s Novel, 『Perfume』, is consisted of introduction of the choreographer, intention of the choreography, and the analysis. Especially, the analysis of 『My Own Scent』 is specified into the analysis of aesthetic factors and movements and how these factors affect towards the visualization of the main theme. The intention of the choreography is stated as follows: Under the modern society that emphasizes the attention of others, loss of self-identity is frequent leading to another societal problems. Choreographer acknowledged modern people’s suffering and lethargy due to the loss of autonomous self-identity was analogous to the protagonist of the novel, 『Perfume』. The choreography focuses more deeply into the fundamental contemplation and realization of the identity as well as the development of oneself rather than simply visualizing the flow and summary of the novel. Therefore, the choreography is the visualization of the philosophical contemplation of the choreographer and the feelings felt during the process. The first act <cave> reflects the modern people’s indifference towards self-identity being captive by the restrictions from social community through the movements with the objects. The first act borrows the double imagery from the ‘cave’, which is an absolute empire and refuge from the social community for the protagonist and initiates the self-evaluation of oneself. The second act <deficiency> is connected to the protagonist’s twenty-four murders due to the realization of colorlessness and obsession towards angel’s scent. With the connection of the madness of the protagonist, the act further expresses the inner conflict derived from the confrontation of inner self-realization and self-deficiency. The third act, unlike the protagonist’s suicide due to the realization of the agony and vain even after wearing angel’s scent and acquiring everyone’s love, the act expresses the acknowledgment of inner deficiency and self-reborn as a mature ego. Especially in the third act, the choreographer’s emotion of catharsis is fully revealed with the climactic movements in order to resolve and release the accumulated emotions from the first and second act. Consequently, through 「My Own Scent」, the choreographer delivers the message and courage towards the modern people to admit one’s fundamental deficiency and pursue what ego wants rather than paying attention to others. Escaping from the restrictions of modern society and achieving autonomous self-confidence will lead oneself to a better life. Lastly, the research holds significance in choreographer’s establishment of artistic values through analysis of the choreography and introspection.
