Determinants of International Trade and International Tourism in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Abstract

International trade represents the transnational flow of goods, while International tourism is the flow of people from one country to another. The present study uses the gravity model approach for panel data to investigate different factors that influence international trade and international tourism in DRC from 2014 to 2015. The result indicates that GDP, PDGP, distance, border, and language have played a major role in influencing DRC’s trade. And for tourism, GDP, PGDP, CPI, distance, region, and visa have played a key role in influencing DRC’s tourists’ arrival. The empirical results provide evidence to support the gravity model in terms of applicability to trade and tourism flows. ;국제관광은 한 나라에서 다른 나라로 가는 사람들의 흐름을 의미하는 반면 국제무역은 초국가적인 상품의 흐름을 의미한다. 본 연구는 2014년부터 2015년까지 DRC의 국제 무역 및 국제 관광에 영향을 미치는 다양한 요인을 조사하기 위해 패널 데이터에 대한 중a력 모델 접근방식을 사용하였다. 그 결과 GDP, PDGP, 거리, 국경, 언어가 DRC의 무역에 큰 영향을 끼쳤다는 결론을 도출해낼 수 있었다. 그리고 관광산업의 경우에는 GDP, PGDP, CPI, 거리, 지역, 비자가 DRC 관광객들에게 가장 큰 영향을 끼쳤다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 경험적 결과는 무역과 관광 흐름에 적용할 수 있다는 측면에서 중력 모델을 뒷받침하는 증거를 제공을 한다고 볼 수 있다.
