가족을 통해 공유되는 삶의 기억과 경험 표현 연구

Abstract

오늘날 현대인은 지속적인 정체성의 혼란을 경험하고 있다. 첨단화된 시대를 살아가는 현대인은 문명의 혜택을 누리기 위해서 변화를 감내해야만 한다. 현대사회는 끊임없는 개발로 인해 시대와 문화가 급속도로 변화하는 과정 가운데 있다. 개인을 둘러싼 상황과 환경이 변해갈 뿐 아니라 집과 가족의 개념도 변해가고 있다. 현대인은 끊임없이 낯설고 새로운 환경 가운데 스스로 적응해야만 하는 혼란스러운 상황 가운데 놓여있다. 현대사회에서 가족개념이 점차 붕괴되며 개인주의가 팽배하고 있다. 예전에는 대가족 안에서 일상생활과 여가활동이 행해지는 경우가 많았는데, 이제는 가족과 함께하는 시간이 상당히 줄었다. 가족의 형태는 단독가구 위주로 변했고, 집의 크기도 줄어들어서 이제 사람들은 주거 기능만 남은 작은 아파트 생활에 익숙해지고 있다. 주위를 둘러보면 온통 빽빽한 아파트 숲이 즐비하다. 저마다 각기 다양한 세대들이 몰려있지만 서로 간의 소통이 단절된 채 살아간다. 바쁜 일과를 마치고 집에 들어오면 각자 방에서 휴대폰을 만지작거리며 시간을 보낸다. 커져가는 세대 차이로 인해 또래 집단이 더 편할 때가 많고 가족의 참견이 지겹게 느껴진다. 그래서 가족 간의 대화도 점점 사라지고 있고, 서로를 마주 보는 것조차 어색할 만큼 가족의 의미가 흐려지고 있는 것이 현실이다. 이러한 상황 속에서 연구자는 개인의 의미를 가족관계를 통해 다시 돌아보고 싶었다. 연구자의 가족은 여성의 시각에서 바라보며 재구성된 인물들이다. 특별히 어머니와 딸은 서로의 시간 속에서 몸에서의 경험과 더불어 양육과정 가운데 더욱 친숙하고 가깝기에 어린 시절부터 가장 직접적인 관계를 맺는다. 연구자의 작업에서는 4대의 모녀가 등장한다. 이는 여성의 삶에 공감하며 모녀 관계 안에서 가족을 바라보고자 함이다. 본인을 중심으로 한 가족 안에서의 관계, 곧 위로는 어머니와 외할머니, 아래로 딸과의 관계 속에서의 삶의 기억과 경험이 표현되었다. 또한 가족은 과거의 기억을 떠올리는 매개체이자 시간을 인지하는 척도가 되었다. 모녀의 관계는 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화되어간다. 연구자는 가족 구성원 간의 관계 속에서 ‘나’를 중심으로 하여 흐르는 시간 속에서 서로의 간극을 받아들이고 이를 작업에 반영하였다. 본 연구에서는 어머니가 딸에게 들려주는 이야기와 같은 표현이 사용되었다. 연구자는 어린 시절 할머니가 읽어주던 동화책 속의 이야기들이 할머니를 통해 눈앞에 펼쳐지는 것을 경험했다. 어머니는 아이에게 이 세상을 바라볼 수 있는 하나의 창이 되어준다. 연구자는 작업의 감상자로 본인의 딸을 염두에 두었다. 또한 본인 역시 어머니와 할머니를 표현할 때 과거의 딸아이의 시점으로 돌아가기도 하고 또한 미래의 어머니의 시점에서 어린아이를 바라보기도 하는 등 시간 여행을 한다. 연구자의 기억 속에서 가족을 매개로 하여 떠오르는 이미지를 바탕으로 직조된 세계와 그 세계 속의 인물을 표현한 작품 7점을 제작했다. 가족은 혈연으로 이루어진 피를 나눈 존재로 자신과 유사성을 지니고 닮은 모습으로 살아가지만 또 다른 인격체를 가지고 다른 시간과 공간, 시대적 상황 속에서 사는 존재이다. 연구자는 이들의 삶의 시간을 추적해 나감으로 본인의 과거의 시간과 경험들을 공유하고 미래의 시간을 유추해 나가는 작업을 전개하고자 하였다.;Modern people continue to be confused about their identity. Modern people living in advanced era must endure change in order to benefit from civilization. Due to the constant development of modern society, times and cultures are changing rapidly. Not only does the environment around an individual change, but the concept of home and family is also changing. Modern people are in a chaotic situation where they must constantly adapt themselves in a strange and new environment. In modern society, the concept of family gradually collapses and individualism prevails. In the past, daily life and leisure activities were often carried out in large families, but now activities within the family have decreased considerably. Nuclear families have become a major type of family. Houses have also been reduced in size, and people are now getting used to small apartments with only residential functions. Looking around, there are many dense apartment forests. Smaller families live in smaller houses, but communication between them is cut off. After returning home, they spend time with their smartphones in their rooms. Growing generation gaps make peer groups more comfortable and bored by parents. Therefore, conversations between families are gradually disappearing, and the meaning of a family is blurred so that it is awkward to face each other. In this phenomenon, the author wanted to look back on the meaning of the individual through family relationships. The author's family is reconstructed from the female perspective. Mothers and daughters, in particular, have the most direct relations with their body experiences in their time and in the more familiar and close childhood of the parenting process. Four mothers and daughters appear in the author's work. This aims to sympathize with women's lives and to look at the family in the relationship between mother and daughter. The author expressed the memories and experiences of life within her relationship in the family centered on himself, the mother and grandmother up, the daughter down. The family also became a link for reminding past memories and a measure of time perception. Mother and daughter relationships change over time. Also, in the relationship between family members and in the time flowing around ‘me’, the author accepted the gaps of each other and reflected them in my work. In this study, the same words used by mothers to tell their daughters were used. As a child, the author experienced the story of fairy tales read by her grandmother. The mother is a window into which the child can see the world. The author kept his daughter in mind as the viewer of the work. When the author expressed my mother and grandmother, the author traveled back to the point of view of the daughter of the past. When the author expressed the child, the author looked at the point of view of my future mother. In the memory of the researcher, the author produced seven works representing the world woven with images of the family and the people in the world. The family who shares the blood lives in a similarity and self-likeness, but lives with different personalities in different time, space and time. By tracking their time, the author wanted to share their past time and experiences and to infer future time.
