한글 자음과 모음을 활용한 사무용품 디자인 연구

Abstract

인터넷 매체의 출현과 다양한 미디어의 발달로 인해 국가 간의 경계가 허물어지고 있다. 이러한 시대적 특성으로 인해 세계 공용어인 영어의 중요성은 강조되고 있으나 정작 우리나라 고유의 언어인 한글에 대한 관심은 그렇지 못하다. 한류의 르네상스로 인해 지구 반대편에서도 방탄소년단(BTS)의 노래를 들을 수 있는 현시대에 오히려 대한민국에서는 한국어 간판보다 외국어 간판이 더 많이 보이는 등 웃지 못할 상황이 벌어지는 것은 한글에 대한 무관심을 반증한다. 우리 민족은 한반도에 살아가고 대한민국의 문화를 접하며 매일매일 한글이라는 문자를 사용한다. 한글은 단순히 말을 표기하는 문자의 기능을 뛰어넘어 우리 민족의 정신과 얼을 담는 문화적 기능을 가지고 있으며, 모든 언어를 글자로 표시할 수 있는 유일한 문자이다. 더하여 한글은 문자로서 과학성ㆍ실용성을 지닐 뿐 아니라 디자인적 측면에서도 유용성을 갖추고 있다. 그리하여 연구자는 한글에 대해 더 특별한 관심을 가지게 되었다. 이에 본 연구자는 우리 민족의 자랑인 한글에 대한 관심을 제고(提高)하기 위해 한글을 활용한 작품 제작을 생각하게 되었고 이를 논문의 주제로 삼기로 하였다. 본 연구자는 우리의 자랑스러운 문화유산인 한글이 일상 속에 살아있는 문화로서 한국인에게 지속적인 사랑을 받고 나아가 한글의 미적 아름다움이 세계에 전파되었으면 하는 소망(所望)에서 한글의 자음과 모음을 활용한 사무용품을 제작하고자 한다. 한글은 문자이기에, 주로 책상에서 다루는 사무용품과 일맥상통한다. 본 논문의 전개 방식은 아래와 같다. 첫째, 여러 문헌을 통해 한글의 창제 배경과 과학적 원리 등을 살펴보려 한다. 한글 자체에 대한 충분한 이해 없이는 한글 디자인을 사무용품에 적용하는 데 한계가 있기에 본 연구자는 한글에 대한 연구를 우선하여 서술하려 한다. 둘째, 한글의 특성에 이어 사무용품의 개념과 역할, 경향(Trend)에 대해 검토하려 한다. 작품성만의 강조는 자칫 소비자의 욕구(Needs)와 충돌할 수 있기에 공예품으로서 사무용품 자체의 특성 등을 연구하여 서술할 것이다. 마지막으로, 작품 자체의 특성과 작업 방식을 설명하려 한다. 작업 방식과 관련하여 본 연구자는‘한글’글자 자체를 최대한 그대로 구현하고, 대량생산과 기물의 동일성을 위해 이장주입성형(Slip casting)기법을 선택하고, 그 중 배출주입성형(Drain casting)기법을 활용했다. 소지는 자기질 점토를 사용하였고, 1차 소성은 최고 온도 850℃ 8시간 동안 소성하였다. 식기 사용이 아니라 문방구류의 용도이기에 형태의 변형을 최소화하고자 낮은 온도로 소성하였다. 2차 소성은 1200℃ 11시간 동안 소성하였다. 전 세계의 바다가 하나로 연결되어 있는 것처럼, 바닷물을 타고 한글이 더 널리 퍼져나갔으면 하는 바람에서 바다의 색과 가까운 염화코발트와 안료를 활용해 작품에 반영시켜보았다. 이 논문과 작품을 통해 한글에 대한 대중의 관심이 제고되길 바란다.;With the appearance of internet medium and the development of diverse media, the boarders between nations are breaking down. Even though the importance of English as a world universal language is emphasized due to the characteristics of the time, there are not much interest in our native language, Hangeul. Currently, owing to the Renaissance of K-Wave, the songs by BTS could be heard even in the opposite side of earth. In Korea, however, it is very usual to see more signs in foreign languages than the signs in Korean, which shows the indifference to Hangeul. Korean people live on the Korean Peninsula, encounter Korean culture, and use the letters of Hangeul everyday. Exceeding the simple function to write words, Hangeul has a cultural function to contain our mind and spirit, which is the world-only script that could express all the languages in letters. Moreover, Hangeul is equipped with the scientific practicality as letters and also the usefulness in the aspect of design. Thus, the researcher started having more special interest in Hangeul. The researcher thought about the production of a work using Hangeul to raise the interest in Hangeul as the pride of Korean people, and took this as a theme of this thesis. With a hope that Hangeul as a proud cultural heritage of Korea is continuously loved by Korean people as a living culture in daily life, and the aesthetic beauty of Hangeul is also spread to the whole world, the researcher aims to produce office supplies using the consonants and vowels of Hangeul. As Hangeul is a script, it has something in common with office supplies mainly handled on desks. The development methods of this thesis are as follows. First, this study aims to examine the invention background and scientific principles of Hangeul through many literatures. As it is limited to apply Hangeul design to office supplies without a thorough understanding of Hangeul itself, the researcher aims to describe the research on Hangeul first. Second, following the characteristics of Hangeul, this study aims to review the concept, roles, and trend of office supplies. As the excessive emphasis on the quality of work could collide with consumers' needs, the characteristics of office supplies as handicraft would be researched and described. Lastly, it aims to explain the characteristics of work itself and the working method. In relation to the working method, the researcher used the drain casting technique out of the slip casting techniques in order to fully realize the most of 'Hangeul' letter itself and also for the mass-production and identity of objects. With the use of porcelain clay, the first plasticity was conducted at the highest temperature 850℃ for eight hours. As it was not for tableware, but for stationery, it was plasticized at the low temperature to minimize the deformation. The second plasticity was conducted at 1200℃ for 11 hours. With a hope that Hangeul spreads farther in seawater just as the ocean of the whole world is connected into one, the cobalt chloride and pigment close to the color of ocean were reflected in the work. It would be great if this thesis and work could be a chance to increase the public interest in Hangeul.
