피나 바우쉬의 「카페 뮐러」와 모리스 베자르의 「호두까기 인형」에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 피나 바우쉬의 「카페 뮐러」와 모리스 베자르의 「호두까기 인형」에 프로이트의 무의식 이론을 적용하여 작품을 해석하는데 있다. 프로이트 이론에서는 예술이 인간의 무의식적 표현이며 예술 창조는 예술가의 무의식적 동기에 의해 이루어진다고 설명한다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 각 안무가들의 개인적인 경험으로 비롯된 내적 동기를 유추해보고 이와 관련하여 작품 속 여러 요소에 드러나는 무의식적 상징과 표현들을 분석하는 방법으로 안무가의 무의식과 작품 간의 연관성을 규명해보고자 하였다. 연구의 과정은 먼저 프로이트의 무의식 개념과 예술 작품의 접근 방식에 대해서 살펴보았다. 무의식의 작동 원리와 구성 등을 파악하고 무의식에 의한 승화 개념에 바탕을 둔 그의 예술 이론을 소개하였다. 그에 의하면 무의식은 본능적이고 충동적인 심리적 에너지의 원천이자 저장소이며 의식보다도 큰 영향력으로 인간의 모든 정신생활과 행동의 근간이 되어준다. 이러한 무의식을 조직하는 성애적인 에너지 리비도(Libido)는 끊임없이 표출되어 쾌락을 충족하고자 한다. 예술은 리비도가 높은 수준의 사회 문화적인 목표를 표방하는 것으로 승화된 행위이다. 또한 예술 작품은 무의식적인 욕구에 의한 소망을 승화 과정을 통해 환상적으로 충족할 수 있도록 리비도가 현실과 타협한 결과물이다. 그러므로 프로이트는 예술 작품을 분석함에 있어 예술가의 내적인 욕구와 무의식적인 동기를 주요하게 파악한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 프로이트의 정신분석학적인 작품 분석의 방법을 표방하였다. 예술가의 무의식적 동기를 파악하고자 전기적 사실을 통해 두 안무가의 무의식에 영향을 미쳤을만한 유년의 경험들을 모색하였다. 그리고 그 경험들과 관련된 프로이트의 ‘외상’과 ‘꿈’ 개념으로 작품을 다각적으로 분석하였다. 「카페 뮐러」는 무의식적인 동기를 중시하는 피나 바우쉬의 안무 과정을 앞서 살펴보았다. 내적 충동으로 안무된 「카페 뮐러」의 여러 표현들을 그녀의 어린 시절과 외상적 기억이 무용 예술적으로 승화된 것이라고 분석하였다. 「호두까기 인형」은 주인공 빔의 꿈을 통해 모리스 베자르의 성적 욕망이 표출된다고 보았다. 「호두까기 인형」속 드러나는 다양한 외설적인 상징들은 환상적인 방법을 통해 돌아가신 어머니를 다시 만난다는 표면적인 소망 충족 이면에 모리스 베자르의 무의식적인 성적 욕망과 관련이 있다고 분석하였다. 이러한 연구 과정을 통해 신체 예술인 무용 작품을 인간의 정신 활동에 집중한 이성적인 이론으로 분석할 수 있다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 작품 속 여러 상징과 표현들이 안무가의 내면세계를 대변해주고 있다는 점을 발견하면서 무용 작품이 안무가의 심리 상태와 연관성을 갖는다는 가전제를 논증하였다. 이는 정신을 신체보다 우위에 두는 이분법적인 사상을 수용하는 것이 아니라 정신분석학을 통하여 안무가의 내면세계와 작품을 관련지어 이해하기 어려웠던 작품의 요소들을 무의식적 표현에서 비롯된 것이라고 새롭게 분석한다는데 그 의미를 갖는다. ;The aim of this study is to analyze「Cafe Muller」by Pina Bausch and「The Nutcracker」by Maurice Bejart by applying Freud’s theory of unconsciousness. Freud’s theory claims that art is an unconscious expressions of humans and that the creation of art consists of unconscious motivation of the artists. Thus, this study attempted to deduce the internal motivation which arose from the personal experiences of the choreographers, and to investigate the relationship between their unconsciousness and their pieces by analyzing the unconscious symbols and expressions shown in different aspects of the pieces. To begin with, Freud’s concept of unconsciousness and his approach to art has been examined. The mechanism and the structure of unconsciousness have been understood, and his study on art based on the concept of sublimation by the unconsciousness has been introduced. According to him, unconsciousness is the source and storage of instinctive and impulsive psychological energy, and plays a greater role than the consciousness in forming the basis of all behaviors and mental activities of humans. The erotic energy Libido which constitutes such unconsciousness is constantly expressed to satisfy pleasure. Art is the act of sublimation of libido by imitating the social and cultural purposes which are of higher degree. In addition, art is the outcome of libido compromising with reality by satisfying the will driven by unconscious desire in fantasy. Therefore, Freud focused on understanding the artists’ internal desire and their unconscious motivation when analyzing the art pieces. Thus, this study applied Freud’s method of psychoanalysis. In order to understand the unconscious motivation of the artists, biographical experiences of their childhood which could have influenced the unconsciousness have been examined. Their pieces were then analyzed using Freud’s concepts of‘trauma’and‘dream’related to those experiences. As to「Cafe Muller」, the process of choreography by Pina Bausch, who considered unconscious motivation as important, was first examined. Many expressions in「Cafe Muller」, choreographed by inner impulse, have been interpreted as her childhood and traumatic memories being artistically sublimated. As to「The Nutcracker」, it has been interpreted that Morris Bejart’s sexual desire is expressed through the dream of Beam, the main character of「The Nutcracker」. It has been interpreted that various sexual symbols in Bejart’s piece are not merely related the fulfillment of his hope to meet his dead mother in fantasy, but also to his unconscious sexual. In this study, through such process of investigation, it was realized that dance, the art of bodily movements, can be analyzed using rational theory which focuses on humans’mental activities. Furthermore, the discovery of the fact that various symbols and expressions in the pieces reflect the inner world of the choreographers demonstrated the premise that the dance pieces are related to the mental state of the choreographers. This does not accept the dualist notion that the mind is superior to the body, but holds significance with respect to relating the pieces to the inner world of the choreographers and interpreting the elements of pieces, which were initially difficult to understand, as originating from the unconsciousness of the choreographers.
