유튜브 브이로그의 타자 담론

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the aspect of the practice by the Others excluded from the dominant discourse on the pretext of vlog content, which reveals each individual’s micro discourse and to identify the political significance of the discourse produced by vlog. Vlog, an abbreviated word for video blog, refers to blog content produced in the form of a video. Now for the general public, vlog is commonly recognized as video content which portray individual’s ordinary life and is often enjoyed by people on Youtube platform. This study first provides that vlog is an individual’s autobiographical video text and attempts to classify vlogs into mimetic form, where individual’s ordinary life experience is revealed and diegetic form, which includes the narrative related to the individual. This study analyzes both the medium characteristic and contextual characteristic of vlog content uploaded on Youtube in a comprehensive manner and contemplates on politicality of vlog in terms of discursive perspective. In the second chapter, the medium characteristic of vlog will be analyzed through the concept of performative of John Austin. Accordingly, the study tries to reveal the medium characteristic of vlog as a tool for performative practice, where an individual creator is the main agent. The aspect of how each element of channel structure is used as in the context of the performative practice will also be analyzed along with the text characteristic. In the third chapter, the aspect of the practice by the Others in vlog content focusing on specific texts will be discussed. “Others” in our society including omen, sexual minority, the disabled represent their ordinary lives in a microscopic manner and confess about themselves in a relationship with viewers. By representing their ordinary experiences, the Others visualize their experiences from the others’ perspective, interpret the life world from the perspectives of the Others, and recontextualize their way of existence. Such practice of the Others is an attempt made to place oneself as a universal subject and generates a fissure in normative universality existing as the practice re-appropriating universality. Moreover, Others confess their awareness on their self and their experiences towards viewers. Others confess their experiences of marginalization forced upon by dominant forces and display the process of inventing new self and establish new self through their experiences and memories. Others construct their subjectivity actively as a social existence. Based on the previous analysis, in the fourth chapter, the political meaning of discourse produced by vlog content will be studied further, based on the discussion of Jacques Ranciere. Vlog is a text visualizing Others’ sensory mean and existential mean that were previously not visualized in the dominant discourse. Such vlog reorganizes the previous sensory order and has an implication of having others trying to invent alternative existential mean. Meanwhile, Youtube as a medium allowing for interaction between creators and viewers, viewers as well become the agent creating the discourse. Viewers perform impossible identification and build a sense of fellowship with creators and also as an agent resisting against the dominant force together, a strong sense of solidarity towards creators is formed. And thus, Youtube vlog takes a role of creating the discourse for minorities’ politicality, reconstructing the structure of meaning in reality based on intersubjective relation between viewers and creators. The Others marginalized and excluded from the dominant discourse form the alternative discourse through Youtube vlog. This study analyzed the discursive practice apparent in vlog content that portrays individual’s micro-level discourse and so the study itself is significant in a way that it has identified the political meaning in Youtube vlog. ;본 연구는 개인의 미시 담론을 드러내는 브이로그 콘텐츠를 대상으로 삼아 지배 담론에서 배제된 타자들의 실천 양상을 분석하고 브이로그가 생산하는 담론의 정치적 의의를 규명하는 데 목적을 둔다. 브이로그란 비디오 블로그(video blog)의 준말로 비디오 형식으로 생산되는 블로그 콘텐츠를 의미한다. 현재 대중들에게 브이로그는 개인의 일상적인 삶을 보여주는 동영상 콘텐츠로 통용되며 주로 유튜브 플랫폼에서 향유되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 브이로그를개인의 자전적인 영상 텍스트로 규정하고, 개인의 일상적인 생활체험을 보여주는 모방적(mimetic) 양식의 브이로그와 개인과 관련된 이야기를 서술하는 서술적(diegetic) 양식의 브이로그로 분류하고자 한다. 본 연구는 유튜브에 게시되는 브이로그 콘텐츠의 매체적 특징과 내용적 특징을 통합적으로 분석하고 담론적 차원에서 브이로그의 정치성을 고찰하고자 한다. 2장에서는 브이로그의 매체적 특징을 존 오스틴(John Austin)의 수행문(performative) 개념을 통해 분석한다. 이를 통해 크리에이터 개인이 주체가 되는 수행적 실천의 틀로서 브이로그의 매체적 특징을 밝히고자 한다. 이때 텍스트의 특징뿐만 아니라 수행적 실천의 맥락으로서 채널의 요소들이 활용되는 양상을 함께 분석한다. 3장에서는 구체적인 텍스트를 대상으로 브이로그 콘텐츠에 나타난 타자들의 실천 양상을 분석한다. 여성, 성소수자, 장애인과 같은 사회적 타자들은 브이로그를 통해 자신의 생활체험을 현미경적으로 재현하고 시청자들과의 관계 속에서 자기 자신에 대해 고백한다. 타자들은 자신의 생활체험을 재현함으로써 타자적 관점에서 자신의 경험을 가시화하고, 생활세계를 새롭게 해석하고, 자신의 존재 방식을 재맥락화한다. 타자들의 이러한 실천은 자기 자신을 보편 주체로 위치 짓고 보편성을 재전유하고자 하는 실천으로서 현존하는 규범적인 보편성에 균열을 낸다. 또한 타자들은 시청자들을 대상으로 자신의 경험과 자아에 대한 인식을 고백한다. 타자들은 지배 질서로 인해 소외된 경험을 고백하고, 새로운 자아를 발명해나가는 과정을 전시하고, 자신의 경험과 기억을 통해 자아를 새롭게 규정해 나간다. 이를 통해 타자들은 사회적 실존으로서 자신의 주체성을 능동적으로 구성해나간다. 이상의 분석을 바탕으로 4장에서는 브이로그 콘텐츠가 생산하는 담론의 정치적인 의의를 자크 랑시에르(Jacques Ranciere)의 논의에 기대어 고찰한다. 브이로그는 지배 담론에서는 가시화되지 않았던 타자들의 감각 방식과 존재 방식을 가시화하는 텍스트이다. 이러한 브이로그는 기존의 감각 질서를 재편성하고 대안적인 존재 방식을 발명해나가는 타자들의 정치적 실천으로서 의의를 지닌다. 한편 유튜브는 크리에이터와 시청자의 양방향적인 상호작용을 실현하는 매체로 유튜브 플랫폼에서는 시청자들 역시 담론을 생산하는 주체가 된다. 시청자들은 크리에이터에게 불가능한 동일시를 수행하며 크리에이터와 유대감을 형성하고, 지배 질서에 함께 저항하는 주체로서 크리에이터에 대한 강한 연대감을 형성한다. 이로써 유튜브 브이로그는 크리에이터와 시청자들 간의 상호주관적인 관계를 기반으로 현실의 의미구조를 재구성하는 소수자 정치를 위한 담론의 장으로 기능한다. 지배 담론으로부터 배제되고 소외된 타자들은 유튜브 브이로그를 통해 대안적인 담론을 형성하고 있다. 본 연구는 개인의 미시 담론을 드러내는 브이로그 콘텐츠에 나타난 타자들의 담론적 실천을 분석하고 정치성을 규명했다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
