촉각적 이미지를 활용한 표현과 적용 연구

Abstract

우리는 일상생활 속에서 수많은 촉각을 경험한다. 무엇인가를 만지거나, 잡거나, 당기거나, 밀거나, 들거나, 두드리며 사물의 외적인 모양을 파악하는 것뿐만 아니라 수행의 역할로서 생활에 직접적으로 느낌을 전달한다. 또한 내가 존재하는 곳의 확신을 주는 실증적인 감각이기도 하다. 이때의 손과 피부는 촉각적 역할을 해내는 감각적인 도구이다. 하지만 우리에게 일상생활에 대한 지각은 촉각보다 시각적으로 이해된다. 감각은 일반적으로 외부자극에 무뎌지고 우리의 인식은 시각적인 기호에 치우쳐져 있기 때문에 손의 촉각적 감각은 대부분 자각되지 않는다. 연구자는 통증을 동반한 손의 자극을 통해서 촉각에 대한 자각을 할 수 있었다. 마치 ‘꿈인지 생시인지 살을 꼬집어 본다’는 말처럼 촉각 자극이 시각보다 강하게 자극되었을 때, 시각에 일반화된 감각이 뒤바뀌며 오롯이 촉각과 마주할 수 있었다. 연구자는 도자를 전공하고 흙을 만지면서 조형적인 외적 감각에서 결과물에 대한 그 의미를 찾고자 했는데, 항상 느꼈던 작업에 대한 갈증과 괴리감은 결국 손의 촉각적 수행에 대한 인식의 부재로 인한 것이라 생각한다. 사용을 목적으로 산업화된 도자기는 그만큼 익숙한 촉각으로 감각되고 익숙해진 감각은 무뎌진다. 그리고 사용되는 도자기의 존재와 가치 역시 무의미해진다. 연구자는 이러한 고착된 감각 속의 도자기에 촉각의 의미를 찾고 물체와 사용자(혹은 감상자) 사이의 간극 없는 소통과 새로운 추상적 경험을 유도하고자 한다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 직접적인 관계인 손과 대상에 대한 연구자의 경험과 더불어 일상의 고요함 속에서 촉각이라는 감각을 꺼낼 수 있는 자극점의 역할로서 촉감이 강조된 도자디자인을 제안하고자 한다. 자료조사를 통해 촉각이 우리 몸에서 어떻게 감각되는지, 생리적으로 어떤 작용을 하는지, 과거에 하위감각으로 여겨졌던 촉각이 실증적인 감각으로 주목되기까지 촉각의 흐름을 찾아보았다. 그리고 자료조사를 배경으로 우리 피부에서 촉각활동이 가장 많이 일어나는 손에 대한 고찰을 통해 능동적인 촉각적 사용을 유발하는 촉각이미지를 도출하였다. 마지막으로 촉각이미지를 적용해 손 안에서 촉각적인 요소를 느낄 수 있도록 도자기에 대입해보았다. 본 연구를 통해 연구자에게는 촉각으로 인한 동기여부와 작업의지에 대한 직관적인 의미를 찾았고 앞으로 전개할 작업의 바탕으로서 촉각의 지속적인 탐구의 필요성을 깨달았다. 그리고 사용자와 감상자에게는 작품을 보는 것뿐만 아니라 실재하는 사물과 간극 없는 촉각적 만남으로 관계하여, 작품을 통해 익숙함을 깨고 새로운 감각의 매체가 될 수 있음을 인지하였다. ;We experience a number of tactile sense through our hands in our daily life. Tactile sense such as grabbing, pulling, pushing, raising or hitting something plays a direct role for practical purpose in our daily life. Furthermore, tactile sense is positive sense which gives us conviction of existence between us and the world. Tactile hand and skin are objective tool which plays its role but reaction to action is guided visually rather than tactilely for us. As our perception leans too much towards visual signal, hand’s tactile sense is hardly realized. The author of this study could realize tactile sense through hand’s stimulation which pain was accompanied. When tactile sense was sensed before visual sense as the old saying goes ‘ pinching yourself to make sure it is for real’ , I could face tactile sense wholly with biased senses upside down. The author of this study has sought the meaning of a result from outer sense majoring in ceramics and touching soil and thought thirsty and sense of discrepancy for work were due to absence of awareness of tactile performance by hands. The purpose of this study is ceramic design which tactile image is emphasized as a role of stimulation point which can draw tactile sense from calmness of everyday life along with experience in hands and objects which have direct relationships. Commercialized ceramics for use is sensed as familiarized tactile sense which becomes dull. Existence and value of ceramics which is used become meaningless. The author of this study seeks the meaning of tactile sense in ceramics in such solidified sense and attempted gapless communication between object and user(or appreciator) and new abstract experience. The author of this study examined how tactile sense is sensed in our body and is recognized as positive sense which was considered lower sense by studying the flow of tactile sense. The author of this study drew tactile image that induces active tactile function by studying hands based on research. The author of this study applied tactile image to ceramics so that tactile elements can be sensed in hands. The author of this study found intuitive meaning of a will to work and motives arising from tactile sense. Further study on tactile sense as basis of work to be developed is needed. The author of this study expects a meeting with ceramics to serve as medium of new senses breaking familarity through artwork and tactile gapless meeting between objects and senses for users and appreciators.
