Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the conditions of flow and the states of flow experienced by members of a university amateur orchestra when performing, and to analyze the factors that influence the flow conditions and flow states. To achieve this goal, 167 members of six amateur orchestras from Seoul-based four-year universities were selected as research targets for the survey. Based on the research questions, the collected survey results were analyzed through frequency analysis, technical statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis, and correlation analysis, and the analysis results were summarized as follows. First, the university amateur orchestra members experienced higher flow than average when playing, and they showed the highest states of flow in the autotelic experience area, especially among the sub-factors of flow. The high states of autotelic experience can be interpreted as the enjoyment of the performer when the members of the university amateur orchestra play. Second, the states of flow according to the motivation of the university amateur orchestra members' participation showed that the performers with the internal motive of the music had higher states of autotelic experience than the performers with the outside motive of the music. Since the performer is an amateur who participates in activities to feel pleasure, these results can be inferred that the state of autotelic experience that regards music activity itself as pleasure was high. Third, musicians who learned musical instruments they are playing in college amateur orchestra for `more than two years' showed higher states of flow than musicians who studied for less than one year and musicians who studied for more than one year and less than two years. These results show that the learning period of the instrument did not differ greatly in experiencing the states of flow, but in the stage of preparing for flow, the performer who learned the instrument for a long time showed higher states of flow than the performer who learned it for a short time. Fourth, for the college amateur orchestra regular concert, the performers who practiced group exercises for an average of `more than 2 hours to less than 3 hours' per day showed higher states of flow than the performers who practiced group exercises for `more than 1 hour to less than 2 hours' and `more than 3 hours'. It can be understood that proper group practice time is needed to experience high states of flow when performing. Fifth, performers who felt the difficulty of the music played in university amateur orchestra is `a bit difficult' or `moderate' showed higher states of flow conditions and flow states than performers who felt it `very difficult'. This result proves that the difficulty of the music that the performers are aware of affects the flow. Sixth, the flow conditions and flow states experienced by the members of the university amateur orchestra were related to each other, but the loss of self-consciousness, a sub-factor of flow states, was found to be less related to the sub-factors of flow conditions. This suggests that additional research is necessary to determine whether these differences are due to the difference between the music major students and non music major students or not. This study is meaningful in examining the flow conditions and flow states experienced by members of the university's amateur orchestra during a regular performance and analyzing factors that affect the flow conditions and the flow states. Based on the results, it is expected to provide information to help members of the university's amateur orchestras understand their performance flow, and that further research related to the area will be carried out actively.;본 연구의 목적은 대학 아마추어 오케스트라 구성원들이 연주할 때 경험하는 몰입조건과 몰입상태의 수준을 알아보고 몰입조건과 몰입상태에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하는 것이다.
