Abstract

Child marriage practices on the girl child have attracted a lot of attention worldwide due to deep rooted socio-cultural beliefs, values and practice which violates the human rights of a girl. The objective of this research is to establish a better understanding of the relationship between girl child marriage and education in Nigeria, with the help of available literature. And also factors inducing child marriage in Nigeria, the effects and how these affect girl’s educational attainment and development. This study examined the relationship between girl child marriage, poverty and education in Nigeria and also the role of education in reducing the gender and health challenges caused by child marriage in Nigeria. Child marriage has made it agonizing for child brides as most of them are forced into marriage as children thereby denying them their rights to be girls and not bride. The general research method to be used in this paper is the qualitative approach that focuses on review of secondary data to answer the research question. Secondary data from Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 2016 -2017) and other published data and literature were used. Result shows that low or no educational attainment, poverty a cause and an effect, regional conflicts, tradition and customs, powerlessness of women and weak legislative structure are the main cause and effects of child marriage in Nigeria which adversely affect women’s educational level, developmental skill and opportunities in life. In conclusion, more purposeful preventive interventions are urgently needed. In achieving this, I recommend at least compulsory secondary education for all girl child in Nigeria, conducting more evidence based research to make the government understand that child marriage is problematic for girl’s health and future development, enhancing economic empowerment for teenage girls, child brides and promote parents and community leader’s participation in dialogue and advocacy.;아동 결혼 관행은 한 소녀의 인권을 침해하는 뿌리 깊은 사회 문화적 믿음, 가치 그리고 실천 때문에 전세계적으로 많은 관심을 끌고 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 이용 가능한 문학의 도움을 받아 나이지리아의 아동 결혼과 교육 사이의 관계를 더 잘 이해하는 것이다. 나이지리아에서 아동 결혼을 유도하는 요인들, 이런 요소들이 여성의 교육적 성취와 발전에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대해서 도요. 이 연구는 나이지리아의 여자 아동 결혼, 가난, 교육 사이의 관계와 또한 나이지리아에서의 자녀 결혼으로 인한 성별과 건강 문제를 줄이는 교육의 역할을 조사했습니다. 대부분의 아이들이 어렸을 때 강제로 결혼을 하게 되어 신부가 아닌 소녀일 권리를 부인하기 때문에, 어린이 결혼이 아이 신부를 괴롭히고 있다. 본 논문에서 사용되는 일반적인 연구 방법은 연구 질문에 답하기 위한 이차 데이터의 검토에 초점을 맞춘 정성적 접근 방식이다. 다중 지표 클러스터 조사(MICS 2016 -2017)의 이차 데이터와 기타 공개된 데이터 및 문헌이 사용했다. 결과가 교육적 성취가 낮거나 아예 없고, 가난과 영향, 지역적 갈등, 전통과 관습, 여성의 무력함, 그리고 약한 입법 구조가 여성의 교육적 기회와 발달적 기회에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 주요 원인과 결과라는 것을 보여준다. 결론적으로, 보다 목적 있는 예방적 개입이 시급하다. 이를 위해 나이지리아의 모든 여학생에게 최소한 의무적인 중등교육을 권하고, 정부가 소녀들의 건강과 미래 발전에 문제가 있다는 것을 이해하도록 하기 위해 더 많은 증거 기반 연구를 함으로써, 십대 소녀들과 어린 신부들에게 경제적 힘을 실어주고, 그리고 부모와 지역사회 지도자의 대화와 지지 참여를 촉진한다는 거 권하다.
