빛의 풍경

Abstract

본인은 같은 공간에 매일 반복 되어 나타나는 빛과 그림자가 동일한 반복이 아닌 미묘한 차이를 가지고 매번 다르게 느껴지는 경험을 하였다. 본인에게 다가오는 빛과 그림자의 미세한 차이는 복합적인 모습으로 나타나 다양한 기억과 감정을 촉발시키는 대상이 된다. 빛과 그림자가 드리워진 공간은 그 시간의 빛의 양, 온도, 바람 외에도 그날 본인의 감정에 따라서 다르게 다가온다. 이처럼 다양한 요소들이 어느 순간 맞물리면 평소에는 무심코 지나치던 일상적인 풍경에서 때때로 어린 시절의 기억과 인상을 발견하기도 한다. 이러한 순간들은 안도감이나 편안함 또는 포근한 느낌들을 불러일으켰고 찰나의 감정들을 붙잡아 두고자 하는 욕구는 작업으로 이어지게 된다. 이러한 이유로 화면에 그리고자 하는 풍경은 유년시절의 따뜻하고 포근한 기억들이 내포되어 있는 풍경이라 할 수 있다. 유년시절의 편안하고 따스한 기억들은 특정 시간의 빛으로 인해 문득 상기되기도 하고, 때로는 아무런 느낌을 받지 않았던 평범한 일상 속에서 그 순간의 심상이 반영되어 그 풍경이 다르게 보임으로서 발견되기도 한다. 본인의 작업은 대상 그 자체로부터 영향을 받기도 하고, 혹은 달라지는 본인의 감정이 그 대상을 인식하는 과정에 영향을 주기도 하면서 특정 시간의 빛의 풍경에 감정이 복합적으로 내재된 결과물이다. 어제의 그림자와 오늘의 그림자는 순환적으로 나타나고 사라지는 것을 반복한다. 하지만 그림자를 바라보면서 본인이 특별한 감정을 느꼈던 그 순간은 다시 오지 않는다. 이러한 특성을 표현하기 위해 찰나에 느낀 여러 감정을 각 작품의 그림자마다 각기 다른 색상으로 표현하였고, 이는 의미 없이 흘러가버리는 일상의 풍경과 본인이 특별하게 느끼고 포착하고자 했던 순간을 구별할 수 있을 것이라는 가정에서 출발한다. 그리하여 본인은 빛과 그림자를 끊임없이 반복하고 변화하게 하는 순환적인 시간성과 그 속에서 본인이 느끼는 감정과의 관계를 고심하였다. 기억과 감정은 순간적으로 떠오르거나 명료하지 않기에 이를 시각적으로 담아내기 위한 방법으로 한지의 번짐성과 채색에 관하여 고찰하였다. 첫째, 작업의 바탕재가 되는 적절한 한지를 선택하고자 한지의 특성을 분석하고 장지와 순지를 비교하는 실험을 선행하였다. 둘째, 흐릿하게 남아있는 기억이나 은은한 느낌의 감정을 담아내고자 한지의 번짐성과 흡수성을 적극적으로 활용하였다. 셋째, 형상만으로는 전달하기 어려운 심상이나 감정을 각기 다른 색상으로 표현하고자 했다. 본 논문은 빛과 그림자의 끊임없는 반복과 변화를 만들어내는 시간성에 대해 연구하였고, 풍경을 단순히 재현하는 것이 아니라 감정과 정서가 담긴 풍경임을 드러내고자 의도하였다. 그리하여 회화적 언어로 표현하는 과정을 정리하였다는 것에 의의를 가진다.;I have noticed the light and shadows that appear repeatedly in the same space every day are never the same and constantly change. The subtle differences in the light and the shadows take a complex appearance and trigger various memories and emotions. The space which contains the light and the shadows may seem different not only depending on the amount of light, temperature, and wind at that moment but also according to my subjective feeling in that moment. As these various elements intertwined, they triggered memories of my childhood in the everyday scenes that have previously been unintentionally ignored. These moments brought relief, comfort, and warm feelings, and the desire to hold on to these momentary emotions was the motivation behind this work. For this reason, the scenery I attempted to capture is a landscape that contains the warm memories of my childhood. Comfortable and warm memories of my childhood were sometimes recalled by the hue of light at a certain time or sometimes spontaneously by the everyday scenery that became meaningful after my momentary feelings were recognized. My work is influenced not only by the light and shadows itself, but also by the emotions that arise from recognition of the momentary feeling that provided meaning to the previously ordinary space. In other words, it is the result of a complex interrelation of recognizing the fleeting feelings induced by the object and being affected by the object itself. The shadows of yesterday and the shadows of the today may appear and disappear repeatedly. However, the moment that contains the special feelings while looking at the shadows may never return again. I have expressed these fleeting feelings by using different colors for each different shadow experienced at a different moment on the assumption that it is possible to distinguish between the everyday scenery that contains no meaning and the moments I wanted to capture. Thus, I examined the relationship between the cycle of time that constantly changes the light and shadows, and the feelings that arise at a certain moment. As memories and fleeting feelings arise spontaneously but are difficult to seize because of their lack in physical shape, I attempted to visualize them by using the smearing and coloring techniques of Korean paper. First of all, I analyzed the characteristics of Hanji to appropriately select the background material of the work, by comparing the Jangji and Sunji. Secondly, in order to emphasize the blurred or subtle feelings of memory and emotion, I have actively utilized the smearing and absorptiveness of Hanji. Third, I attempted to express the images and feelings that are normally difficult to convey using various colors. In this paper, I contemplated about the temporal nature of the continuous repetition and change of light and shadow. However, my work is not simply a drawing of a landscape but a snapshot of the moment that imbued feelings which triggered long forgotten beloved memories.
