C. Debussy의 〈Prélude〉 제1권에 관한 연구

Abstract

인상주의 음악(Impressionist Music)은 19세기 후반의 프랑스를 중심으로 나타난 음악양식으로 어떠한 감정의 구체적인 표현보다는 분위기를 암시하거나 순간적이고 주관적인 느낌에 초점을 둔다. 클로드 드뷔시(Claude A. Debussy, 1862-1918)는 이러한 프랑스 인상주의 음악의 대표적인 작곡가로 20세기 프랑스의 문학과 미술의 특징을 음악에 도입하여 이전에는 없던 새로운 음악을 만들어내고 완성시켰다. 피아노 음악사에 있어 가장 중요한 작곡가 중 한 사람으로 꼽히는 드뷔시는 장조와 단조에 얽매이지 않고 그것들로부터의 의식적인 탈피를 시도하였다. 드뷔시는 그의 작품에 교회선법, 5음음계, 온음음계 등을 다양하게 사용하였고, 3화음뿐만 아니라 7화음, 9화음, 11화음과 같은 불협화음을 자유롭게 사용하였다. 이러한 다양한 시도가 그의 독창적인 음악을 만들어냄과 동시에 후기 낭만주의 음악으로부터 근대음악으로의 전환을 이루어 내는 방향을 제시하였다. 훌륭한 피아니스트이기도 했던 드뷔시는 그의 독창적인 방식을 특히 피아노 작품에서 잘 표현해냈다. 그의 대표적인 작품 중 하나인 〈프렐류드(Prélude)〉는 인상주의적 기법이 매우 돋보이며 풍부한 상상력과 섬세한 감수성을 보여준다. 12곡씩 2권으로 작곡된 드뷔시의 〈프렐류드(Prélude)〉는 각 곡마다 매우 상징적인 제목을 가진다. 이는 드뷔시가 상징주의 문학과 인상주의 회화로부터 영향을 받은 것으로 흥미로운 음악적 소재들이 제목을 통해 시사되면서 시적 의미와 밀접한 연관성을 나타낸다. 총 24개의 곡들 중 〈프렐류드(Prélude)〉 제1권의 1번 ‘델피의 무희들(Danseuses de Delphes)’은 옛 델피의 조각상에 묘사된 세 명의 무희들을 아주 느리고 장중한 리듬으로 나타내고 있다. 5번 ‘아나카프리의 언덕(Les collines d' Anacapri)’은 이탈리아 아나카프리 섬의 아름다운 경치를 경쾌하고 밝은 색채감으로 생동감 있게 표현하고 있으며, 8번 ‘아마빛 머리의 소녀(La fille aux cheveux de lin)’는 목가적인 느낌을 주며 단순한 양식으로 작곡되었지만 5음음계로 시작되는 첫 주제선율이 드뷔시의 음악적 특징을 잘 보여주고 있다. 9번 ‘끊어진 세레나데(La serenade interrompue)’는 기타 소리를 흉내내는 듯한 가벼운 스타카토 진행과 급격한 다이나믹의 대조가 특징적이며, 12번 ‘음유시인(Minstrels)’은 당시 흑인들의 유랑악단 사이에서 유행하던 노래와 춤을 재즈적인 요소를 담아 풍자적으로 표현한 작품이다.;Claude A. Debussy is a representative composer of French Impressionist Music which stood out in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He pursued his own unique musical language and made new effects which were quite different from the traditional music. He introduced the characteristics of French literature and art in the 20th century into music, and he completed new sonority that was not existed in the past. Debussy reflected his characteristic musical style, especially in piano works. Debussy's 〈Prélude〉 is one of his representative piano works. The Impressionistic technique is very prominent in this work, showing rich imagination and delicate sensitivity. The 〈Prélude〉 consists of 24 pieces divided into two books. These pieces show variously changing colors, the contrast between light and darkness, and the ambiguous tonal boundaries. It also features delicate expressions and mysterious images. This study is focused on No. 1, 5, 8, 9 and 12 of Debussy's 〈Prélude〉 Book 1. As a result of analyzing these five pieces, the characteristics of Debussy's music are as follows. First, he mainly used the simple form of A - B - A'. Second, he used various scales such as Pentatonic scale, Whole-tone scale, Church modes, and Chromatic scale to project exotic mood. Third, he used various chords piled up by 3rds which project dissonance to represent unconventional harmonic progression. Debussy established his own style of music through this new approach to sound, and it influenced the music history of the 20th century.
