산티아고 칼라트라바 건축의 구조적 조형미를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

Fashion and architecture are forms of art that represent the overall life of people. Architecture, which requires consideration of functional, structural, and aesthetic aspects, shares much with fashion, in the sense that it is an act of aesthetic shaping targeting people. The characteristic of such elements show similarity to the expression methods of fashion design, and many designers implement structural forms or architectural shapes and facades in fashion design. As a response, this study categorizes the structural form shown in Santiago Calatrava’s architecture into linear beauty, perspective beauty, and rhythmical beauty. The purpose of this study is to approach fashion design with the use of transparent and non-transparent materials and the tape embroidery technique as an effective method of expression, which are suitable to emphasize the visual continuity and contrast seen in the three characteristics, to propose creative designs that emphasize the forms. The content and method of the study is as following. First, the background of Calatrava’s works of architecture and characteristics shown in his works are researched through dissertations, scholarly research journals, books, foreign technical books, and other preceding research and literary consideration, and its structural aesthetics are analyze. Second, case studies of fashion design implementing architectural structural aesthetics are analyzed through internet and literary sources. Third, the tape embroidery technique is considered and proposed as an expression method to effectively implement the structural aesthetics found in Calatrava’s architecture in fashion design, based on the theoretic considerations above. Fourth, present 6 created works that applied the tape embroidery technique to express linear beauty, perspective beauty, and rhythmical beauty in fashion design, based on the results of the analysis of Calatrava’s work. The conclusions gained from the study of applying the structural aesthetics of Calatrava’s architecture to contemporary fashion design is as the following. First, the characteristics of the organic structures seen in Calatrava’s architecture are able to be expressed in fashion design in structural silhouette and form, and it was easy to apply motifs, making it effective in design expression. Second, the ‘linear beauty’, ‘perspective beauty’, and ‘rhythmical’ beauty’ that was seen in Calatrava’s architectural works were able to be effectively expressed as a result of the cross iterating composition of the non-transparent polypropylene material and transparent polyurethane material which were cut out using laser cutters. Third, polypropylene is lightweight, yet strong and elastic, and as a result of tightly attaching it to the base polyurethane material through the tape embroidery technique, was able to be effective in expressing the architectural structure, 3 dimensional form, and the surface of sculptural reliefs. Fourth, as a result of implementing the unique structural aesthetics of Calatrava’s architecture to fashion design, creative designs were able to be proposed in the total structure, form, and surface structure. Fifth, as a result of creating the cloth element with a repetitive linear composition and layering the cloth over the human body, the space between the cloths were overlapping, yet still perceivable, giving it both a spatial impression and a wavering effect, which added a dynamic power and decorative beauty. This study analyzed the structural aesthetics of Santiago Calatrava’s architecture and applied it to fashion design through the tape embroidery technique. Going further, it sought to expand the creative range of expression by implementing the organic structural beauty of architectural design to fashion design. If new ways are continuously attempted to express the structural beauty of architecture through this study, the range of expression methods in fashion design is expected to widen through various experimental attempts to come.;패션과 건축은 인간의 생활을 총제적으로 상징하고 있는 예술 활동이다. 기능적, 구조적, 장식적인 면이 고려되어야 하는 건축은 인간을 대상으로 한 미적 조형 활동이라는 점에서 패션과 연계성을 갖는다. 이와 같은 요소들의 특징은 패션디자인의 표현기법과 유사성을 보이며 많은 디자이너들이 구조적 형태나 건축의 조형성 및 건축의 외피를 패션디자인에 활용하고 있다 이에 본 연구는 산티아고 칼라트라바의 건축에 나타난 구조적 조형미를 선적 조형미, 투시미, 율동미로 분류하였다. 세가지 특징에서 보여지는 시각적 연속성과 대비 효과를 강조하기에 적합한 투명한 소재와 불투명한 소재의 사용과 선의 효과적 표현방법으로 테이프 자수 기법을 통하여 패션 디자인에 접목함으로써 조형성이 극대화된 창의적인 디자인을 제시함에 목적이 있다 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학위 논문과 학술 연구지, 단행본, 전문 해외 서적 등의 선행연구와 문헌적 고찰을 통하여 칼라트라바의 건축작품의 형성 배경과 작품에 나타나는 특징을 살피고 구조적 조형미를 분석한다. 둘째, 인터넷 자료와 문헌을 통하여 건축의 구조적 조형미를 응용한 패션 디자인 실증사례를 분석한다. 셋째, 위의 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 칼라트라바의 건축작품에 나타나는 구조적 조형미를 효과적으로 패션디자인에 접목시키기 위한 표현 기법으로서 테이프 자수기법을 고찰, 제시한다. 넷째, 칼라트라바의 작품 분석 결과를 토대로 선적 조형미, 투시미, 율동미를 패션디자인에 표현하고자 테이프 자수 기법을 적용한 총 6착장의 실물 작품을 제작한다. 칼라트라바 건축 작품의 구조적 조형미를 응용한 현대 패션 디자인에 관한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 칼라트라바의 건축 작품이 지닌 생물학적 구조의 특징은 패션디자인의 전개에 있어서 구조적 실루엣과 형태로 적용이 용이하여 디자인 모티프로서 적합하였다. 둘째, 칼라트라바의 건축 작품에 나타난 ‘선적 조형미’, ‘투시미’, ‘율동미’는 불투명 소재인 폴리프로필렌을 레이저 커팅으로 테이프화하고, 투명 소재인 폴리우레탄을 교차 반복 구성한 결과 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 폴리프로필렌은 가벼우면서 탄성과 강도가 있어 바탕 소재인 폴리우레탄에 테이프 자수기법으로 밀착시켜 부착한 결과, 건축적 구조와 3차원적 형태, 부조적 표면감을 표현하는데 효과적이었다. 넷째, 칼라트라바 건축의 독특한 구조적 조형미는 패션디자인에 접목한 결과, 전체 구조와 형태, 그리고 표면구조에 있어서 독창적인 디자인을 제시 할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 선적 요소의 반복 구성으로 면적 요소를 제작하고 면을 인체 위에 입체적으로 반복 배열한 결과 면과 면이 공간을 두고 겹쳐 투시되어서 공간감을 주는 동시에 눈에 어른거리는 시각적 효과가 나타나 디자인에 역동감과 장식미를 더해 줄 수 있었다. 본 연구는 산티아고 칼라트라바 건축의 구조적 조형미를 분석하여 테이프 자수기법을 통해 패션디자인에 적용하였다. 나아가 건축디자인의 생물학적 구조미를 패션디자인에 적용함으로써 패션디자인에 독창적인 표현영역을 확대하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 건축의 조형미를 표현하는 기법의 새로운 시도가 계속적으로 이루어진다면 패션디자인에 있어 앞으로도 다양한 실험적 시도를 통하여 패션에서의 표현기법의 범위가 보다 넓어질 것으로 기대한다.
