Abstract

This thesis is about the works which the author played for graduation recital for a master΄s degree. It includes A. Beach’s <The Year's at the Spring>, which is from 『Three Browning Songs, Op. 44』, F. Schubert's <Am Feierabend> and <Der Neugierige>, which are both from 『Die schöne Müllerin, Op. 25』, D. Shostakovich's 『Sonata for Cello and Piano in d minor, Op. 40』, V. Bellini's aria ‘Care comepagne...Come per me sereno' which is from the first act of the opera 『La Sonnambula』, and G. Puccini's ‘Avete Torto!...Firenze è come un albero fiorito’, which is from the one act opera,『Gianni Schicchi』. Amy March Cheney Beach(1867-1944) represents American female composers. 『Three Browning Songs Op. 44』is Amy Beach’s most renowned song. Beach borrowed the lyrics of Robert Browning(1812-1889)΄s poem <The Year's at the Spring>. which is the first song of the work. The lyrics of this song express the lively spring season. Franz Peter Schubert(1797-1828) is a composer known as 'the King of Lied'. His first song cycle 『Die schöne Müllerin, D. 795, Op. 25』was the first song cycle of Romantic period. This work was based on Wilhelm Müller(1794-1827)'s poems so it could connect music with poem with close relationship. This song cycle features romantic expression, and it is mainly unfied by the lyrics. The composer Dmitri Shostakovich(1906-1975) is one of the composers who represent 20th Century music. His only one cello sonata,『Sonata for Cello and Piano in d minor, Op. 40』, was written during the period of adapting to the political situation that his artistic transition. It is a typical four-movement sonata. The relationships between cello and piano are wellbalanced and appear throughout the work. Vincenzo Bellini(1801-1835) is a composer representating the Italian opera of the Romantic period. He reflects realism and naturalism in his opera. The opera 『La Sonnambula』consists of 2 acts. Bellini expressed Felice Romani(1788-1865)΄s poetic script with sweet melody. The simplicity of harmony, formal unity, and regular phrase all appear in the work. Giacomo Puccini(1959-1924) is the Italian opera composer. The realistic Buffa Opera『Gianni Schicchi』 is one of the most successful opera written at the latter period of his compositional career. Shostakovich의 『Sonata for Cello and Piano in d minor,Op. 40』, V. Bellini의 오페라 『La Sonnambula』 제 1막 중 아미나의 아리아‘Care comepagne...Come per me sereno’그리고 G. Puccini의 단막오페라『Gianni Schicchi』의‘Avete Torto!...Firenze è come un albero fiorito’에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 에이미 비치(Amy March Cheney Beach, 1867-1944)는 미국의 대표적인 여성 작곡가로‘제2 뉴잉글랜드 악파’의 주요 인물이다. 특히,『Three Browning Songs, Op. 44』은 에이미 비치의 가곡 중에서도 가장 대중적이며 자주 연주되는 작품이다. 그 중 첫 번째 곡인 <The Year's at the Spring(봄의 해)> 은 그녀의 전기 가곡 작품으로 극적 독백 기법이 잘 나타난 브라우닝의 시를 음악적으로 부각시켜 가사와 음악의 밀접한 관계를 나타낸다. 화성의 제시와 해결이 빠르게 진행되어 가사에 몰입하도록 하였다. 프란츠 슈베르트(Franz Peter Schubert, 1797-1828)는‘예술가곡의 왕’으로 불리우며 650여곡의 예술가곡을 남긴 낭만시대 초기의 대표적인 작곡가로 가곡을 시와 음악이 완벽히 조화를 이루는 통합 예술의 장르로 발전시켰다. 『Die schöne Müllerin, D. 795, Op. 25(아름다운 물방앗간의 아가씨)』은 그의 최초의 가곡집임과 동시에 낭만파 최초의 가곡집이며 낭만주의적인 상상과 표현이 살아 있는 작품이다. 쇼스타코비치(Dmitri Shostakovich, 1906-1975)는 20세기 대표적인 작곡가로 그의 유일한 첼로 소나타인『Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 40』은 전통적인 소나타의 형식을 지닌 4악장으로 구성된다. 초기의 전형적인 무조적 작품에서 탈피하여 조성적인 면모가 드러남과 동시에 비화성음의 지속음, 반음계적 선율, 첼로의 다양한 주법 등 현대적 기법과 실험적 요소들이 나타난다. 벨리니(Vincenzo Bellini, 1801-1835)는 낭만시대 이탈리아 벨칸토 오페라의 중요 작곡가로‘카타니아(Catania)의 백조’라고 불렸다. 아름답고 유연한 멜로디 때문이다. 오페라『La Sonnambula(몽유병의 여인)』은 제 2막의 오페라로 로마니(Felice Romani, 1788-1865)의 시적인 대사에 감미로운 선율을 붙였다.‘Care comepagne...Come per me sereno(이 얼마나 화창한 날인가)’는 벨리니 특유의 서정적인 선율과 화려한 콜로라투라의 기교가 녹아있는 곡이다. 푸치니(Giacomo Puccini, 1858-1924)는 베르디의 뒤를 잇는 이탈리아의 대표적인 오페라 작곡가로서 독일과 이탈리아의 서로 다른 오페라 양식을 둘 다 성공적으로 활용한 작곡가로 평가받는다. 그의 음악은 후기 낭만주의 음악의 기법을 아낌없이 도입하였으며 5도의 병행 화음, 당시로서는 극히 대담한 화성적 특징 등을 활용하였다. 오페라 『 Gianni Schicchi 』 ‘Avete torto!...Firenze è come un albero fiorito’는 평생 비극 오페라로 관객을 울렸던 푸치니가 말년에 시도했던 희극 오페라로 3개의 단막극으로 구성된 <Il Trittico(삼부작)>의 마지막 작품이다.
