캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육 지원을 위한 실행연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 캄보디아 다문화가족의 언어 사용 현황 및 가족별 자녀 언어교육 관련 어려움을 파악하고, 이를 바탕으로 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육 지원 방안을 개발해 실시하고 그 효과를 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육 지원을 위한 실행방안은 무엇인가? 1-1. 캄보디아 다문화가족의 언어사용 및 자녀 언어교육의 어려움을 파악하기 위한 실행방안은 무엇인가? 1-2. 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모가 자녀의 언어교육을 지도하게 하기 위한 실행방안은 무엇인가? 2. 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육 지원을 위한 실행방안의 효과는 어떠한가? 본 연구의 참여자는 ‘캄보디아 다문화아동 외가방문 지원사업’에 참여한 가족 중 유아기 자녀의 언어교육에 어려움을 겪고 있는 3가족으로, 캄보디아 결혼이민여성 3명, 한국인 아빠 3명, 자녀 4명이다. 본 연구는 2016년 8월부터 2018년 5월까지 실시했으며, Mills(2005)의 모형에 따라 3차 실행과정을 거쳤다. 1차 실행은 연구 참여 가족의 언어사용 및 자녀 언어교육 어려움을 파악하기 위한 면담 및 참여관찰로, 2차 실행과 3차 실행은 가족과 연구자가 함께 하는 언어활동의 계획 및 실시로 이루어졌다. 실행의 전 과정에서 질적 연구 방법을 사용해 자료를 수집하고 분석했다. 본 실행연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육을 지원하기 위한 실행방안은 다문화가족의 언어사용 및 자녀 언어교육의 어려움을 파악하기 위한 실행방안으로 각 가족별 면담 및 관찰을 실시해 세 가족의 공통점과 차이점을 파악했으며, 자녀의 언어교육을 지도하게 하기 위한 실행방안으로 세 가족의 요구를 반영한 언어활동을 계획 및 실시했고, 가족별로 다르게 나타난 요구를 반영해 각 가족별로 언어활동을 계획 및 실시했다. 둘째, 캄보디아 다문화가족 부모의 자녀 언어교육 지원을 위한 실행방안의 효과는 가족 간 차이점과 가족 간 공통점으로 나타났다. 연구 참여가족별로 다르게 나타난 효과는 1차 실행에서 각 가족이 겪고 있었던 어려움과 관련되어 있었으며, 연구 참여가족 간 공통적으로 나타난 효과는 연구 초기 가족들과의 면담 실행에 따른 효과와 전문성을 지닌 연구자가 부모의 자녀 언어교육을 지원한 효과로 나타났다. 연구 초기 가족들과의 면담을 실행함으로써 각 가족의 강점과 요구를 이해하고 가족과 유대를 형성할 수 있었으며, 전문성을 지닌 연구자가 부모의 자녀 언어교육을 지원함으로써 유아교육 전문가에 대한 신뢰감을 구축하고 효과적인 교구 사용으로 엄마의 교수 능력을 발휘할 수 있었고 자녀의 캄보디아어 학습에 대한 엄마의 책임감을 생성할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 캄보디아어와 같이 국내 사용자 수가 적은 언어의 학습 기회를 제공할 필요성을 제시하는 한편, 캄보디아어 교육이 효과적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 한국어 교육을 병행해 지원할 필요성을 제시했다는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 연구자가 가족의 요구에 기반을 둔 언어활동을 직접 실시함으로써 아빠를 포함한 가족 구성원 전체의 참여를 유도하고, 자녀에게 캄보디아어 교육을 원했지만 실시할 수 없었던 엄마들의 변화를 이끌어 낼 수 있었다. 아울러 본 연구에서는 다문화 가족의 언어를 구사하지 못하더라도 유아 언어교육에 대한 전문성을 충분히 갖추었다면 유아와 가족들을 지원할 수 있는 가능성을 찾을 수 있었다. 본 연구가 유아 및 초등 교사들의 다문화이해교육과 부모교육에 활용되고, 다문화가족을 위한 언어교육 지원에 유아교육 전문가의 역할을 이끌어내는 데 기여할 수 있게 되길 바란다. ;The purpose of the study is to develop and implement a measure for supporting language education by parents to their children with verification on its effects based on the investigation of the situations of language use by Cambodian multicultural families and of their difficulties in the language education to their children. For achieving such purposes, research topics are as follows. 1. What are action plans for supporting language education by parents to their children in Cambodian multicultural families? 1-1. What are action plans for identifying the language use and the difficulties in language education by parents to their children in Cambodian multicultural families? 1-2. What are action plans for parents of Cambodian multicultural families to educate language to their children? 2. What effects do action plans have for supporting the language education by parents to their children in Cambodian multicultural families? Participants of the research were 3 Cambodian female marriage immigrants, 3 Korean fathers and 4 children from 3 families that participated in 'Project for Supporting Cambodian Multicultural Children's Visit to Cambodian Relatives' and have difficulty in language education to their children in infancy. The study was conducted from Aug., 2016 to May, 2018 under 3 action processes according to the model by Mills(2005). The 1st action was done with the interviews and the participant observations to identify the language use and the language education problems in research participants, and the 2nd and the 3rd actions were done with the planning and the execution of linguistic activities where the families and the researcher participated together. In the entire action processes, the data were collected and analyzed using the qualitative research methodologies. Findings of the action research are as follows. Firstly, for the action plan for supporting the language education by parents to their children in Cambodian Multicultural families, as the measure for identifying the language use and the difficulties in the language education by parents to their children, it investigated the similarities and the differences in three families through the interviews and the observations by family. As the action plan for supporting language education to their children, the linguistic activities reflecting distinct demands of families were planned and implemented. Secondly, as for the effects of the action plan for supporting language education by parents to their children in Cambodian multicultural families, there were the differences and the similarities among the families. The effects different from families had something to do with the difficulties that families were suffering in the 1st action. The effects common in the families were those from the interviews with families in the early step of the research and support by the expert researcher for the language education by parents. The researcher could understand the strengths and the demands of each family and form the bond with families. Besides, through the support by the expert researcher for the language education by parents to their children, they could construct the trust in the expert of early childhood education, and mothers were able to show their instructional abilities through the use of effective teaching aids and have a sense of responsibility for children's Cambodian language learning. This study has significance in that it suggested the need of offering an opportunity of learning languages having less users like Cambodian and of conducting Korean education together with Cambodian for its effective education. Moreover, the researcher implemented a linguistic activity based on the familial demands so could derive the participation by the entire family members including fathers and the changes of mothers who wanted Cambodian education to their children but could not so. In addition, in this research, it was possible to find out a potential for supporting children and their families if one is specialized in the language education for young children though one does not have a command of language of multicultural families. This research is expected to be used for the multicultural education for early childhood and elementary school teachers and parent education, contributing to deriving roles of early childhood education experts in supporting language education for multicultural families.
