잠재성의 발현과 도자조형

Abstract

This thesis is a philosophical and artistic study of the possibility of a self - and creative life based on the problem of one's subjectivity that is easily lost in modern society. Modern capitalist societies are considered to be those that allow individual freedom more than ever before. In reality, however, they are forced to follow the way society pursues life for economic affluence or stability, often leading to the loss of subjectivity. With the question about the truly free life and whether one has to live for a given purpose, I've been making works in the think of 'a progress undependent on the results or objectives’ in entire works. For myself, the true value of life is created in a process that is repeating and continuing every day life. In other words, the creative life can be realized by the principle of creation. In the mutual relationship with objects, the subject oneself would be constantly changed and opened, and that is a subjectivity and true freedom. As theoretical studies, this study investigate the principles of creation through the theories of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Gauttari. And based on the principles, it is discussed about the potentiality of the subject and it can be revealed through the ‘desubjectivization’. Also the Henry Bergson's time concept, that the principle of such creation can be made only in the time of creation which involves infinite possibilities, rather than a time where the past, present, and future are lined up from a rule of cause-and-effect. Furthermore, that the time of such creation can be experienced primarily through the physical senses. Based on this awareness of the problem and theoretical research, I started journey to discover myself through ceramics. This journey is the process of finding a way to freedom to leave without a milestone that starts with an interesting form that has been found incidentally in work and in everyday life. As the work progressed, thoughts are expanded and works are changing in the reflection from the previous stage. In an effort to find the principle of creation in ceramics that truly enables my own potentiality and creative life, I met two Japanese artists, Satoru Hoshino and Yo Akiyama. From their way of working and attitude, I came to have a chance to reconsider the relationship between me and the medium of clay. As a result of these explorations, I have discovered new possibilities in the mass of clay and developed them into work, which will be another beginning for further work.;본 논문은 현대사회에 있어 상실되기 쉬운 개인의 주체성에 대한 문제의식을 바탕으로 주체적이고 창조적인 삶의 가능성을 찾기 위한 철학적, 예술적 고찰이다. 현대 자본주의 사회는 그 어느 시대보다 개인의 자유가 허락된 사회로 간주된다. 하지만 실제로는 경제적 풍요나 안정을 위해 사회가 추구하는 삶의 방식에 떠밀려 따르게 되곤 하며, 이는 종종 개인의 주체성 상실의 문제로 이어지곤 한다. 삶이 이미 주어진 목적을 성취하는 과정일 뿐이라면, 이를 자유로운 삶이라 할 수 있을까라는 문제의식을 바탕으로 본 연구를 진행하였으며, 전 작업 과정에 걸쳐 ‘결과나 목적에 종속되는 과정’에 대해 비판적으로 사유한다. 연구자에게 있어 삶의 진정한 가치는 매일 반복되고 지속되는 과정 속에서 생성되는 것이다. 즉, 창조적인 삶은 생성의 원리에 의해 실현될 수 있는 것이라 할 수 있다. 외부와의 상호적인 관계 속에서 주체 자신이 끊임없이 변화되고 열려가는 것, 그것이 곧 주체성이고 진정한 자유라 해야 할 것이다. 본문에서는 이에 대한 이론적 연구로서 먼저 질 들뢰즈(Gilles Deleuze)와 펠릭스 가타리(Felix Gauttari)의 이론을 통해 생성의 원리를 살펴보고, 이를 통해 주체의 잠재적 가능성과 이것이 발현될 수 있는 ‘탈주체화’과정에 대해 알아본다. 또한 그러한 생성의 원리는 인과관계에 의해 과거, 현재, 미래가 선적으로 꿰어진 시간이 아닌, 무한한 가능성을 함축한 생성의 시간 속에서만 이루어질 수 있음을 앙리 베르그송(Henry Bergson)의 시간 개념을 통해 알아보고, 그러한 생성의 시간은 일차적으로 신체적 감각을 통해 체험할 수 있음을 논의한다. 이러한 문제의식과 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 연구자는 도자작업을 통해 진정 나 자신을 발견하기 위한 여정을 시작한다. 이 여정은 작업 과정에서, 그리고 일상 속에서 우연히 발견한 흥미로운 조형에서 시작된 이정표 없이 떠나는 자유를 향한 길 찾기의 과정이다. 작품 해설에서는 각 작업이 진행됨에 따라 이전 단계에 대한 반성과 확장되는 사유를 서술함으로써 연구자의 사고와 작품이 변화되어 가는 과정을 살펴본다. 진정으로 나 자신의 가능성을 찾고 창조적 삶을 가능하게 할 생성의 원리를 도자 작업에서 찾고자하는 노력 속에서 연구자는 일본의 두 작가 사토루 호시노(Satoru Hoshino)와 요 아키야마(Yo Akiyama)를 만나게 된다. 그들의 작업 방식과 태도로부터 점토라는 매체와 나와의 관계에 대해 다시 고찰하게 되는 계기를 갖게 되었다. 이러한 탐구의 결과로써 덩어리 상태의 점토 속에서 본인이 새로이 관계할 수 있는 가능성의 씨앗을 발견하고 이를 작업으로 발전시켰으며, 이는 앞으로의 작업에 또 다른 시작이 될 것이다.
