과거회상대화 시 어머니의 대화유형 및 대화내용이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 과거회상대화 시 어머니가 사용하는 대화유형 및 대화내용이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 이러한 영향이 유아의 공감 및 도덕적 판단에 의해 매개되는지 살펴보았다. 연구대상은 서울과 경기도에 거주하는 만 4, 5세 유아와 어머니 72쌍이었다. 과거회상대화는 어머니와 유아가 과거에 함께 공유한 특정한 사건에 대해 대화를 나누는 상황으로, 본 연구에서는 유아가 행복했던 사건, 올바르게 행동했던 사건, 올바르지 못하게 행동했던 사건 각각 하나씩을 사전에 어머니가 선정하도록 한 후 실험실 상황에서 이에 대해 자유롭게 대화하도록 하였다. 어머니의 대화유형은 Fivush와 동료들(Fivush & Fromhoff, 1988; Reese & Fivush, 1993)의 코딩 시스템에 기초하여 정교성, 반복성, 평가에 초점을 두어 측정하였으며, 대화내용은 마음상태용어(정서상태용어, 욕구상태용어, 인지상태용어)와 훈육전략(도덕적 평가, 교훈적 내용, 귀납적 훈육)을 측정하였다. 유아의 공감은 Bryant(1982)가 제작하고 최선경(2016)이 수정, 보완한 공감능력검사를, 도덕적 판단은 Nucci와 Turiel(1978), Smetana(1981), Song, Smetana와 Kim(1987), Fowler(1994) 등의 연구를 바탕으로 최보가와 송미화(1997)가 개발하고 심지은(2013)이 그림으로 제작한 것을 사용하여 면접을 통해 측정하였다. 유아의 친사회적 행동은 Weir과 Duveen(1981)의 친사회적 행동 검사(Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire [PBQ])와 Doesdcher(1986)의 개정된 친사회적 행동 검사(Modified Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire [Mod-PBQ])를 참고하여 이혜주(1997)가 번안, 수정하고 박선이(2015)가 수정한 척도를 사용하여 어머니 보고로 측정하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0을 사용하여 과거회상대화 시 어머니의 대화유형 및 대화내용의 일반적 경향 및 자료 요약을 실시하였다. 변인 간 상관관계를 살펴본 후, Baron과 Kenny(1986)의 3단계 접근법을 사용하여 단순회귀분석과 중다회귀분석을 실시하여 매개 효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구의 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과거회상대화 시 어머니들은 반복성과 평가보다 정교성의 대화유형을 더 많이 사용하였으며, 마음상태용어 중 정서상태용어와 훈육전략 중 교훈적 내용의 대화내용을 가장 많이 사용하였다. 둘째, 어머니의 대화유형 중 정교성은 유아의 도덕적 판단 및 친사회적 행동과, 평가는 친사회적 행동과 정적 상관이 나타났다. 어머니의 대화내용 중 인지상태용어는 유아의 공감, 도덕적 판단 및 친사회적 행동과 정적 상관이 나타났으며, 귀납적 훈육은 유아의 공감, 친사회적 행동과 부적 상관을 나타냈다. 셋째, 어머니가 사용한 인지상태용어가 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향과 어머니의 귀납적 훈육이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향을 각각 유아의 공감이 매개하였다. 마지막으로, 어머니의 정교성과 인지상태용어 각각이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향은 유아의 도덕적 판단에 의해 매개되었지만, 어머니의 평가와 귀납적 훈육이 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향은 유아의 도덕적 판단에 의해 매개되지 않았다. 본 연구는 국외에서 유아의 사회정서발달과 관련하여 활발하게 연구되고 있는 과거회상대화 상황을 사용하여, 어머니가 사용하는 대화유형 및 대화내용이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향과 이 과정에서 유아의 공감과 도덕적 판단의 매개적 역할을 밝혔다는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 어머니의 대화유형 및 대화내용이 유아의 공감, 도덕적 판단 및 친사회적 행동에 서로 다르게 영향을 미친다는 사실을 확인하였다. 과거회상대화 상황에서 어머니의 대화유형 중 정교성과 평가, 그리고 대화내용 중 인지상태용어의 사용이 유아의 친사회적 행동과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타난 본 연구의 결과는 이를 촉진하기 위한 프로그램 개발 및 부모교육의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. ;The main purpose of this study was to examine the effects of maternal discourse style and content during memory talk on preschoolers' prosocial behavior. In addition, the mediating roles of preschoolers' empathy and moral judgement were investigated. Seventy-two preschoolers (4, 5 years) and their mothers participated in a videotaped laboratory procedure. During the laboratory visit, mothers and preschoolers had conversation about three shared past experiences (i.e., happy event, well-behaved event, misbehaved event). Maternal discourse styles were categorized into elaboration, repetition and evaluation. Maternal discourse contents were coded for two categories: mental state terms (i.e., emotion state terms, desire state terms, cognitive state terms) and discipline strategies (i.e., moral evaluation, didactic mode, and inductive discipline). Preschoolers’ prosocial behavior was evaluated by their mothers. Preschoolers were also individually interviewed to determine their levels of empathy and moral judgement. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, pearson’s correlation coefficients, simple regression and multiple regressions using SPSS 21.0. The main results of this study were as follows: First, mothers used more elaboration than repetitions and evaluation. In addition, mothers used emotion state terms and didactic mode more frequently. Second, maternal elaboration was significantly related to preschoolers' moral judgement and prosocial behavior and maternal evaluation was significantly related to preschoolers' prosocial behavior. With respect to maternal discourse content, maternal cognitive state terms were significantly related to preschoolers' empathy, moral judgement and prosocial behavior. Maternal inductive discipline was negatively related to preschoolers' empathy and prosocial behavior. Third, preschoolers' empathy mediated the relations between maternal cognitive mental state terms and preschoolers' prosocial behavior. And preschoolers' empathy mediated the relations between maternal inductive discipline and preschoolers' prosocial behavior negatively. Finally, preschoolers' moral judgement played a mediation role between maternal elaboration and preschoolers' prosocial behavior. And preschoolers' moral judgement played a mediation role between maternal cognitive mental state terms and preschoolers' prosocial behavior. In conclusion, maternal elaboration, evaluation and cognitive state terms played important roles in preschoolers’ empathy, moral judgement and prosocial behavior. These findings can be used as basic sources in developing programs for preschoolers who lack age-appropriate prosocial skills.
