Abstract
The purpose of the study is to examine the general tendency of the sex role stereotype of 5-year-old infants to improve the Sex Role Learning Index (SERLI) And it also aims to identify whether the effectiveness and reliability of the modified Sex Role Learning Index has improved or not. For this purpose, specific research questions are as follows. 1. How is the sex role stereotype of the subject researched through the existing and the modified tools? 2. Are there differences in efficiency between the existing and the modified tools? 3. Are there differences in the reliability of the existing and the modified tools? 3-1. What are the differences in the type of correct answer choices? 3-2. How much difference can be seen in the test score? This study was carried out on one hundred children in 5-year-old in two private kindergartens located in Seoul and Incheon. Through two preliminary researches, the existing tools were revised and complemented to make the modified tools. In addition, the infants of the subjects were divided into two groups through the simple random sampling method. One group was examined with the existing tools and researched again with the modified tools after 10 days. And the other group was examined with the modified tools, and it was researched with the existing tools after 10 days. For the data analysis, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were calculated, and t test, x² test and Pearson's correlation analysis were conducted. The results of this study are as follows. First, the sex role stereotype of the 5-year-old infant showed a rather higher in all sub-factors including sex role stereotype, sex role confirmation (SRC) and sex role preference (SRP), and the measure was slightly higher when measured with the modified tools. In addition, when the scores of boys and girls were compared, the scores of all three sub-factors were shown to be high overall in boys and girls, whereas the modified tools showed that boys had higher sex role discrimination (SRD) than girls. In other words, when compared with a large number of studies, in which boys have generally higher sex role stereotypes than girls, it can be implied that the modified tools are more reliable and sensitive than the existing ones. Second, comparing the difference of inspection time with the number of questions between existing and modified tools, the time required for the inspection was shorter compared to the existing tools, and the number of questions about the items of inspection tool was fewer. In other words, when infants used the modified tools, it was easy for them to figure out the items, thus, indicating that the modified tools have been improved than the existing ones. Third, there were some differences in the type of correct answer choices by each questions between the existing and the modified tools. Based on the results of examining the validity of the modified tools, it was confirmed that 18 out of 20 questions were changed or replaced with the appropriate tools considering ecological and cultural validity. Furthermore, as a result of examining the relationship between the scores measured by the two tools, it is revealed that the existing tools and the modified tools have positive correlations in sex role confirmation (SRC), sex role discrimination (SRD) and sex role preference (SRP). However, the correlation of the two scores did not exactly match 100 %. In this sense, it can be implied that the subjects which the modified tool aims to measure is inherently the same with the existing tool, and the modified tool was modified in consideration of ecological and cultural aspects.
