중도입국청소년의 이주 및 고등학교 생활경험

Abstract

본 연구는 그동안 잘 드러나지 않았던 고등학교 학령기 중도입국청소년의 이주 및 학교생활에 대한 이해를 통해 사회복지적 함의를 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 중도입국청소년을 외국에서 태어나 성장하다가 외국인 부모의 한국 내 취업 또는 재혼 등의 이유로 한국사회에 입국한 청소년으로 정의하였다. 연구자는 고등학교에 재학 중인 중도입국청소년의 학교생활 경험에 대한 선행연구가 부족한 상황에서 이들의 학교생활 실태와 같은 객관적인 양상들을 살펴보기 보다는 이들의 경험과 그 의미에 더 관심을 갖고 있기 때문에 질적 연구 방법이 적합하다고 판단하였다. 사례연구(case study)는 사회 현상 가운데서 비교적 적은 경험으로 인하여 학문적으로 정립되어 있지 않은 분야에 대한 통찰을 자극하는 방법으로 소수의 한정된 사례에 대한 집중적인 방법으로 사용된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사례연구 방법을 활용하였고, 이에 따른 연구 질문은 “중도입국청소년의 고등학교 생활경험은 어떠한가?” 이다. 본 연구의 참여자는 서울과 경기도 지역의 정규 고등학교에 재학 중인 중도입국청소년 10명으로 남자 5명, 여자 5명이다. 출신 국적은 베트남 1명, 일본 1명, 중국 4명, 몽골 1명, 파키스탄 1명, 우즈베키스탄 2명이다. 국제결혼재혼가정이 4명, 이혼가정 1명, 가족동반 입국이 5명이다. 한국 거주기간은 최소 1년~최대 6년으로 한국어 수준은 상이 6명, 중 2명, 하 2명이다. 학교유형은 인문계 7명, 특성화고 2명, 다문화 공립 대안학교 1명이다. 자료 수집은 이화여자대학교 생명윤리위원회(Institutional Review Board, IRB) 승인일 이후인 2017년 7월부터 2018년 4월까지 10개월 간 개별인터뷰를 통해 이루어졌다. 연구 참여자들과는 최소 3회 이상 최대 5회로 만났고 충분한 자료가 획득되지 않을 경우 추가 인터뷰를 진행하여 자료를 수집하였다. 인터뷰 시간은 1회당 1시간 정도로 진행되었고 연구 참여자의 상황에 따라 조정하여 실시하였다. 본 연구는 Stake(1995)가 제시한 사례 내 분석과 사례 간 분석을 실시하였다. 사례 내 분석에서는 각 사례들의 이주 및 학교생활 경험을 보다 깊이 있게 이해하기 위해 각 사례별 성장 및 입국배경, 이주 전 모국에서의 학교생활 경험, 이주 후 한국에서의 학교생활 경험으로 나누어 세부적으로 기술한 후 각 사례별로 나타난 독특한 주요 경험들을 중심으로 제시하였다. 사례 간 분석은 사례 간 공통점과 차이점(다양성)에 주목하여 주제를 분석하였다. 사례 간 분석에서 중도입국청소년의 이주 및 고등학교 생활 경험은 <저울질 끝에 선택한 한국행>, <낯선 세상에서 맞닥뜨린 현실의 벽>, <끊임없이 확인 받는 이방인의 위치>, <고군분투하며 살아남기>, <꿈의 방향성 찾기>의 5개 상위범주와 이에 따른 12개의 하위범주가 도출되었다.;This research aimed at investigating the social welfare implication through understanding of the migration of the immigrated adolescents in the high school ages and their school life, which have not been revealed well in the mean time. This research defined the immigrated adolescents as the teenagers who were born in the overseas countries and grew up for a while, then migrated to Korean society due to job employment or remarriage of their parents, who are foreigners. The researcher determined a qualitative research method is suitable for this research, instead of investigating the objective aspects such as the status of their school life, since their experiences and the significance therein are more meaningful in the situation that the advanced research on the immigrated adolescents ’ migration and their high school life experience has been conducted insufficiently. As the case study, stimulation of an insight on the field not yet established academically was utilized as a means for a few limited cases, due to relatively fewer e때eriences 없nong the sodal phenomena. Here, this research utilized case study method, accordingly, casted a research question, “What is immigrated adolescents ’ migration and high school life experience like?". The participants of this research were 5 male students and 5 female students, total 10 immigrated ad이escents from high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Their nationality is, 1 from Vietnam, 1 from Japan, 4 from China, 1 from Mongol, 1 from Pakistan, and 2 from Uzbekistan. 4 from intemational marriage and remarriage families, 1 from divorced family, and 5 from family immigration. The period of stay in Korea was 1 - 6 years, and their Korean language level was 6 in high level, 2 in intermediate level, and 2 in beginners ’ level. School type is, 7 from humanities course, 2 from specialized high school, and 1 from multicultural public altemative school. Data collection was performed through individual interview for 10 months from July, 2017 to April, 2018, since the approval date of Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Ewha Womans University. The researcher met the research participants for 3 to 5 times, in case if the data was insufficient, additional interview was conducted for data collection. Interview took around 1 hour per session, which was adjusted according to the p따ticipant ’ s situation. This research performed the analysis inside the cases and among the cases according to the method suggested by Stake(l995). Analysis inside the case suggested mainly with the special experiences in each case, after describing their cases by dividing in detail into their growth and background of immigration, school life experience in their homeland before migration, and their high school life experience in Korea after immigration per each case, in order to understand the immigration and school life experience per each case more in depth. Analysis among the cases analyzed the subject by paying attention to the common grounds and differences (diversity) among the cases. Also, this research intended to investigate the common subjects that pass through the immigrated adolescents ’ migration and their school life experience by integrating the common grounds and differences of the cases derived from the results of the analysis inside the cases and among the cases based on the subject analysis.
