Abstract
A. Plan Introduction Purpose: To create an intensive (IR) and extensive reading (ER) textbook which helps students in middle school to improve speaking and writing abilities through reading “A bear called Paddington” by Michael Bond Rationale: CLT can encourage students to interact and communicate to complete tasks using language for authentic and meaningful communication. Like CLT, TBLT allows students to do activities involving real communication, which is essential for language learning. IR and ER approaches can develop reading skills and encourage student’s extensive reading outside of class room. Target learner: 12 students in the 2nd grade at the middle school, mixed gender Proficiency: From intermediate high to advanced according to the ACTFL Learning context: After-school program Method CLT / TBLT Intensive and Extensive reading approaches Students will complete reading assignments at home and teachers will plan activities based on the reading. Expected Outcomes Students will develop speaking and writing skills by using language for authentic and meaningful communication. Students will develop a positive attitude toward reading extensively.
