Abstract
We have compared the hypolipidemic effects of dietary fat and carbohydrate type in hyperlipidemic rats. Hyperlipidemia was induced by sucrose and beef tallow diet in Sprague-Dawley rats for 4 weeks, then rats were fed 6 different diets made for beef tallow(saturated fatty acid), perilla oil(a-linolenic acid) or tuna oil(DIlA) as fat source and sucrose or cornstarch as carbohydrate source for 8 weeks. Hyperlipidemia inducing diet increased the plasma triacylglyceroKTG) of rats three times more than control diet, but it didn't increase plasma total cholesterol. Body weight gain and the weight of epididymal fat pad were not different among dietary fat types, but these were significantly higher in sucrose groups than in cornstarch groups. Among groups fed sucrose, the plasma TG content was lower in the perilla oil or tuna oil group than in the beef tallow group. However it was not different among the three groups fed cornstarch. And plasma TG content was affected by carbohydrate type, so it was significantly lower in groups fed cornstarch than in groups fed sucrose. Plasma total lipid content also had the tendency like plsma TG. Conclusively, in Korea, there are many hypertriglycemic patients by intake of high carbohydrate diet it is important to intake polysaccaride and n-3 fatty acid(a-linolenic acid or DHAHn order to decrease plasma TG.
