조직적 주름을 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

현대의 패션은 다양화, 세분화 추세에 따라 점차 개인의 차별화와 정체성 표현에 주력하고 있다. 이는 적극적인 소재 개발과 연결이 되고 있는데 매 시즌의 컬렉션에서도 개성적이고 섬세한 소재 개발이 지속적으로 활발하게 나타남을 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 개성적인 소재 개발을 통해 고부가가치 패션을 창출하고자 하는 현 시대적 부응에 맞춰 다양한 소재의 방식 중 주름의 기법을 활용한 패션디자인 개발을 하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 주름 기법 중에서도 조직적 주름의 특성을 갖는 체계적인 주름에 집중한 연구이다. 조직적 주름 중에서도 입체감을 가장 확실하게 부여하며 응용할 수 있는 스모킹과 터킹 기법에 주목하였으며, 본 연구의 목적은 모던한 형태의 조직적 주름을 수공예적인 기법으로 개발 적용하여 고부가가치 패션 디자인 방법을 모색하는 데에 있다. 연구의 내용 및 방법은 다음과 같다. 먼저 문헌 고찰을 통하여 조직적 주름의 개념과 특성을 조사하고 주름의 종류를 나누어 분석하였다. 그 중 스모킹과 터킹을 위주로 조사하였고 현대 패션에 반영된 사례들을 분석하였다. 이상의 분석에 근거를 두고 스모킹과 터킹을 적용하여 패션디자인 작품을 제작하였다. 스모킹과 터킹의 다양한 기법들을 실험하며 패션디자인으로서 새로운 도전이 될 수 있는 이미지를 창출하고자 시도한 결과로서, 작품은 총 6벌이다. 재킷과 미니스커트 1벌, 재킷과 원피스 1벌, 재킷과 팬츠 1벌, 롱 원피스 1벌, 롱 베스트와 팬츠 1벌, 롱 베스트 1벌로 아이템을 고르게 구성하였다. 현대 패션디자인 사례에서 분석한 바와 같이 스모킹을 일부 디테일에 포인트 효과로 적용한 사례들이 많았는데, 본 연구에서는 북미식 스모킹에 속하는 플라워 패턴 스모킹 기법을 보다 넓은 범위에 활용하여 입체적인 표면장식 효과를 적극적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 규칙적이고 단순한 스티치로 고정된 블라인드 터킹에 수공예적인 느낌이 더해질 수 있도록 크로스 스티치 터킹과 스모킹을 더하여 직선적 느낌과 함께 장식효과의 조화로 모던하면서도 강조점이 있는 룩을 표현했다. 전체 6벌의 작품 실루엣은 터킹과 스모킹 디테일이 의상의 분위기를 주도할 수 있도록 최대한 심플하게 구성하였고, 균형과 안정감으로 전체 통일이 될 수 있도록 하였다. 작품에 사용된 소재는 주름의 장식 기능과 규칙적인 패턴을 보다 잘 살릴 수 있는 표면 느낌을 찾았는데, 울과 같은 표면 느낌이 있어 디자인에 무게감을 부여하며 열가소성 특성으로 인해 터킹의 안정성 측면에서 적합한 폴리에스테르 합성 소재이다. 색채는 주름 기법과 같이 유행에 민감하지 않고 시대를 불문하고 무난하게 사용할 수 있는 무채색 계열인 다크 그레이, 라이트 그레이, 화이트 색상을 사용하였다. 특히 무늬 없는 무채색의 사용은 스모킹의 입체감과 깊이감과 연관된 명암 표현을 고려한 것이다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 패션 디테일로서 주름에 대한 분류는 흔히 결과적 형태에 근거하여 직선형, 곡선형, 혼합형으로 분류되어 왔다. 본 연구는 주름에 대한 또 다른 분류 방식으로서 주름의 제작 방식과 결과적 형태 양측에 근거한 조직적 주름 유형을 제안하였다. 둘째, 스모킹과 터킹은 조직적 주름 기법의 대표적 종류로서 체계적이고 규칙적인 방식으로 만들어지며 결과적으로도 체계적 조직이 드러난다. 더불어 섬세한 수공예적 측면을 함께 보이므로 고부가가치 창출의 패션디자인을 지향하는 본 연구에 적합한 기법으로 타당성을 갖는다. 셋째, 스모킹과 터킹은 작품에 각각 단독으로, 혹은 혼합하여 사용이 가능하였다. 이 기법들은 체계적 패턴으로 만들어진다는 공통점을 가지므로 서로 동떨어지지 않으며 한 착장 안에 유사와 차이를 함께 드러내며 어울릴 수 있었다. 넷째, 스모킹과 터킹은 작품의 외형과 인체 움직임에 적극적 관여를 하는 기법으로 보인다. 특히 스모킹의 경우 크기의 변형을 통해서 의상의 실루엣에 극적인 분위기를 부여할 수 있는 기법으로 활용할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 스모킹의 적용 범위를 보다 넓게 설정하면서 디테일의 기법이 실루엣에 크게 영향을 미치는 경우를 실현해 보일 수 있었다. 다섯째, 조직적 주름이 보여주는 독특한 조형감은 현대인이 추구하는 모던한 감성과 더불어 수공예적 표현으로서의 느낌을 함께 표출할 수 있는 기법으로 보이며, 체계적 규칙을 갖는다는 하나의 기준 하에 매우 다양한 변형이 가능하므로 앞으로도 현대 패션디자인 표현 기법으로서 큰 가능성을 가질 것이다.;Contemporary fashion focuses on differentiation and expressing identities as the trends have become more diversified and segmented. Delicate and unique materials seen through each season’s collection are the evidence of active development on materials. This study dedicates in developing high-tech fashion design utilizing pleating technique which is motivated by contemporary trends’ demand. Among the various pleating techniques, this study concentrates on organized pleating which shows characteristics of structured pattern. To be more specific, it focuses on smocking and tucking that together clearly provides the cubic effect. The objective of this study lies in finding high-tech fashion design applying modern and structured pleating pattern into handcraft technique. The following is the content and method of the study. To begin with, this study demonstrates the definition and characteristics of organized pleating by examining through documents. Mainly focusing on smocking and tucking, the study analyzes how these techniques are applied in modern fashion. Based on the analysis, it sees through the new fashion design utilizing the techniques. As a result of applying several techniques of smocking and tucking in hoping for setting a new image as a fashion design, 6 work pieces have been created as a part of the study. These works consist of a pair of jacket and mini skirt, a pair of jacket and dress, a pair of jacket and pants, a dress, a long vest and pants, and a long vest. As indicated in the contemporary fashion design research, there were a lot of examples where smocking was applied partially in some of the details to give a highlight. Meanwhile, this study intends to show more of dynamic surface decoration by applying North American flower pattern smocking technique in broader area. The blind tucking reveted by simple and regular stitches accompanied with cross stitch tucking provide linear-like, modern and unique image. A total of 6 work pieces are designed in a relatively simple way based on the balance and sense of stability in order to emphasize the tucking and smocking detail of the outfit. A specific material that can accentuate each pleat’s decoration and regular pattern was needed. Therefore, polyester, a wool-like material that can give more impression to the design and safe for tucking in thermoplastic wise, was used. At the same time, sustainable, casual and achromatic dark-grey, light-grey, and white colors were chosen. The reason of selecting plain achromatic color was to maximize the impression of smocking and depth related light and darkness. The following is the result of conducted study. First and foremost, pleating as fashion detail has been classified as linear, curved, and combined based on the final shape. This study suggests organized pleating type regarding its production method and final shape. Secondly, smocking and tucking are typical examples of organized pleating pattern. They are made with systemized and yet regular method which eventually shows the structured pattern. At the same time, as it brings delicate handcraft feature, this method suits the objective of the study that aims for high-tech fashion design. Third of all, smocking and tucking technique have been used individually and collectively. The fact that both techniques create a systemized pattern let the two methods get along in one outfit by presenting both similarity and dissimilarity. Fourth, smocking and tucking seem to be techniques that directly relate to the outward appearance and human body motion. Especially in the case of smocking, it could be utilized to add a dramatic effect on costume’s silhouette by modifying the size. Conducted study enabled the method of details affect silhouettes by setting up a wider application spectrum for smocking. Last but not least, the unique molding shape that organized pleats offer seems to be an option to represent the modern sensibilities and pinch of handcraft feature that modern people seek for. In the light of the fact that various kinds of modification are available under the systematic pattern, this method will have a great opportunity as a contemporary fashion design technique.
