Abstract
The purpose of the research is to investigate the effects that music activities grounded on musical concept have on three-year-old children's music aptitude and musical character. The research has significance in that it has ascertained music education methods that assist children's musical development, and has provided possible music activities based on musical concept which can be practiced on educational sites. The research questions are as follows: 1. What are the effects that music activities based on musical concept have on the music aptitude (in terms of tonal and rhythm) of three-year-old children? 2. What effects do music activities based on musical concept have on the musical character (in terms of musical interest, musical ability, musical value, and musical will) of three-year-old children? This study was conducted to investigate the effects of music activities that are based on musical concept have on the music aptitude and character of three-year-old children. 45 children all aged three in a daycare center in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do were selected as research subjects. Out of the 45, 23 children were assigned to the experimental group, and the remaining 22 children were assigned to the comparative group. The research was divided into 14 episodes over a period of 7 weeks from March 13, 2017 to April 26, 2017. Music activities based on musical concept were given to the experimental groups, and the comparative groups were made to mainly perform daily singing activities. Gordon's (1989/2001) Audie was used to measure children's music aptitude, and tools developed by Bang Eun Young (2008) and utilized by Kim Eun Jung & Hwang In Ju (2010), and Park Yeon Jeong (2012) that determine individual's musical character were also used after due revision and supplementation. The results of the research are summarized as follows. First, music activities grounded on musical concept have been proven to have significant effect on the development of music aptitude of three-year-old children. The experimental group which participated in musical activities that are based on music aptitude in terms of 'tonal' and 'rhythm' showed notably bigger change between pre-test and post-test than the comparative group. Such result indicates that children accrued experience of 'tonal' related concepts like pitch and melody through music activities based on musical concept, and that they have also experienced music activities that are based on 'rhythm' and beat. Secondly, music activities based on musical concept have shown to have crucial influence on three-year-old children's development of musical character. When comparing the two groups, the experimental group that engaged in musical concept-based activities showed significantly bigger change between pre-test and post-test in all sub-domains of musical character such as 'musical interest', 'musical competence', 'musical value', and 'musical will' than the comparative group. This can be attributable to the fact that the music activities based on musical concepts induced children to participate in various music activities with various teaching-learning methods. Furthermore, because teachers enjoyed music and showed positive attitude toward it, there was a positive effect on children to enhance their interests in music and competence and to solidify their musical values and willingness. In this light, it can be concluded that musical concept-based activities exert positive influence on the children's music aptitude as well as their musical character. Such results imply that music activities which are based on musical concept can be actively utilized as effective music education methods on educational sites for further development of children's musicality.;본 연구는 음악적 개념에 기초한 음악활동이 만 3세 유아의 음악 적성과 음악적 성향에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
