종이접기의 조형미를 적용한 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

최근 심각해져 가는 환경문제들을 해결하기 위한 각 분야의 노력이 활발하다. 패션디자인에서도 친환경 소재나 공정으로 변화하거나 폐기물을 줄이기 위한 노력, 수명이 다한 폐기물들에 대한 재사용 등 다양한 측면의 연구가 활발하다. 이 중 제로 웨이스트는 사전에 철저한 계획으로 폐기물을 완전히 없애거나 줄이는 방법으로 그 동안 환경문제를 일으키는 의류폐기물에 대한 실천적 대안으로 주목되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 제로 웨이스트 패션 실현의 방법으로서 종이접기를 채택하여 종이접기의 조형미를 율동미, 중첩의 미, 선적 조형미, 부조적 형태미로 분석하고 이를 패션디자인에 구조적 또는 장식적으로 적용하여 표현하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인을 친환경적이고 지속 가능한 관점에서 실현하여 그 필요성과 의의를 환기시키고, 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인에 종이접기방법을 적용함으로써 제작방법의 다양성과 연구의 필요성을 모색하고 종이접기의 조형미를 적용함으로써 제로 웨이스트 한계 내에서 미적 표현의 가능성을 넓히고자 하였다. 한편 더 나아가 친환경적이고 지속가능 하면서 창의적인 조형미를 발현시키는데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. Ⅰ장에서는 연구의 목적과 의의, 내용, 방법 등 서론을 제시한다. Ⅱ장에서는 이론적 고찰로서 제로 웨이스트의 개념과 특성을 제시하고 디자인 전반에 나타난 제로 웨이스트의 적용 사례를 살펴보았다. 또한 패션디자인 분야에서 나타난 제로 웨이스트의 현황을 제시하고 그 유형별 사례들을 분석하고자 한다. Ⅲ장에서는 종이접기의 조형성을 표현하는데 적합하다고 판단된 반투명하고 광택있는 폴리에스터 소재의 활용으로 모티프를 전개하고자 한다. 다양한 접기방법을 구조적,장식적으로 적용하여 단순한 실루엣에 종이접기의 조형미를 적용하여 총 6벌의 작품을 제작, 제시하고자 한다. 작품제작을 통해 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 환경을 고려하는 제로 웨이스트 패션 실현의 의의를 가지고 종이접기의 조형미를 디자인에 구조적, 장식적으로 적용한 결과, 독특한 실루엣과 디테일들이 구현되며 제로 웨이스트 패션의 하나의 실천적 방안이 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 종이접기 방법을 통해 접히고 펼쳐진 면과 선들이 굴곡이 있는 인체 위에 입혀지면서, 평면에서보다 조형적 율동미가 강조되는 특징이 나타났다. 셋째, 반투명 소재를 사용한 경우, 접기를 통해 면이 여러 겹 중첩되는 중첩의 미가 발현될 수 있었다. 반투명 소재를 사용한 작품에서는 접혀진 부분이 농담으로 나타나 장식적 효과를 줄 수 있었고, 불투명한 소재를 사용한 작품에서는 견고한 형태미가 표현될 수 있었다. 넷째, 접기를 통해 접혀진 직선과 사선들을 통한 직선(腺)적 조형미가 발현되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 폴리에스터 원단에 열을 가하며 날렵하게 접혀진 선들에 의해 날카롭고 딱딱하며 절도 있는 형상미를 구현할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 접기에 의해 면들이 두껍게 중첩되고 때로는 세워지면서 요철과 같은 부조적 형태미가 표현됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 접었다 펼친 후에 나타나는 각양각색의 직선적 요소들에 의해 그 자체로 자유로은 부조적 형태미를 구현할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과를 통해 제로 웨이스트 패션 구현의 방법으로서 종이접기 방법을 통해 그 표현의 다양성과 구현 가능성을 입증하였으며 디자이너의 친환경적인 목적과 의지가 종이접기의 조형미와 결합되어 독창적인 디자인으로 발현될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이로 인해 앞으로도 더 다양한 종이접기의 방법들과 조형미를 적용해 나간다면 친환경적인 패턴 메이킹의 한 부분으로 발전해 나갈 수 있으리라 기대한다.;While development of industrial and economic growth brought abundance and convenience our society, they also caused severe environmental issues and problems. Recently governments and industries have tried to find ways to resolve these environmental issues in various fields of researches. In fashion, there are also studies and efforts such as choosing eco-friendly materials, re-using or reducing wastages. Out of these, Zero-waste fashion is drawing attention as a practical approach that can reduce or remove the once inevitable clothing waste through a thorough pre-arranged plan. The aim of this study is to present some designs of zero-waste, the eco-friendly, sustainable, and creative way of making clothes, by adopting paper-folding. In so doing, the designs express structural and artistic beauty. Each chapter of this thesis is as follows: Chapter Ⅰ provides the preview of this research, which contains the purpose, the scope and the methodology of this study. Chapter Ⅱ analyzes the unique features of Zero-waste and shows its formerly examined examples in the field of design and modern fashion design. It also analyzes the origin of paper-folding and history, techniques and formative features of paper-folding and shows its examples in modern fashion. Chapter Ⅲ tries to manifest the motives that have been carefully selected in terms of appropriateness when exhibiting a superb structural formation of paper-folding by utilizing translucent, lustrous polyester. 6 pieces of artwork will be suggested by applying various manners of folding, which provide structural and decorative bases under simple silhouettes of structural form. The findings of this research are as follows. First, unique silhouettes and elaborate designs have been created when origami was applied as a means of pursuing Zero-waste. Structural formation of origami has revealed its potential to be a practical method of creating environmentally friendly fashion designs. Second, rhythmic beauty has appeared when the clothes were put on human bodies, which have various lines and curves. One of the charms of clothes is that it shows different silhouettes with different people, and this feature was emphasized with the zero-wasted designs. Third, a variety of dynamics of layers have been found when semitransparent and opaque materials were used. With the translucent materials, the folded areas of the artworks showed fine effects of light and shade and gradations of color. With the opaque ones, more solid structural formation was presented. Fourth, the beauty of lines was manifested as a number of straight lines and diagonal lines were beautifully crossing when the materials were folded. These lines became more apparent especially when ironed on the polyester fabric. Fifth, overlapped and protruding parts, which have been made out of the folds in the artworks, brought structural complexity and diversity. These variations enhance the aesthetic value of the designs. The findings above have successfully shown how much aesthetic value zero-waste designs can have. They also showed how diverse and creative fashion designs can be when the designer’s eco-friendly and ethical will not to waste anything from nature and the skills of paper-folding meet. More environmentally-friendly patterns can be developed if we examine further with the hope of making a sustainable and non-destructive way of making clothes.
