Globalization has allowed no limitation to human mobility and education. The increase of international students on Korean campuses gave more opportunities for Korean students to be exposed to new cultures. However, the lack of meaningful interaction between international and domestic students are reported internationally, and recently being a topic of discussion among scholars in South Korea. To contribute to this phenomenon, an exploratory study is needed to understand how students are engaging in intercultural exchanges on campus. The primary objectives of this study are to understand the nature of the interaction, factors that are facilitating, and debilitating interactions perceived by international and Korean students. This is to understand how they perceive their intercultural experience on campus. The results will give insights to practitioners to put forth efforts into improving intercultural learning environment as the diversity on campus is expected to increase rapidly. Also, the perceptions gathered in the study could promote understanding between international and Korean students. For these purposes, the study follows three research questions: 1. How do international students and Korean students interact in terms of frequency, occasion, content, and languages used? 2. What factors facilitate intercultural interactions perceived by international and Korean students? 3. What factors debilitate intercultural interactions perceived by international and Korean students? Online survey was posted on the university community web-site and sent to both international and Korean students. Respondents who agreed to participate in the interview were contacted for the interview. Semi-structured interviews with 83 international and Korean students were audio-recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using NVIVO. More than 200 initial codes were developed, grouped, and finally categorized using the round-table and through bottom-up approach. The codes were categorized according to the following perceptional directions: Perceptions of international students towards international and Korean students, and Perceptions of Korean students towards international and Korean students. Under these perceptional directions, eleven main divisions answering the first and second research questions were developed. There are four main divisions for factors facilitating interaction, including Having linguistic skills, Having the motivation to interact, Having intercultural interaction skills, and Having environment that promotes interaction. Meanwhile, seven main divisions for factors debilitating interaction were identified as Lacking of English/ Korean linguistic skills; Not having the motivation to interact; Feeling of alienation/ Bad experience; Not having environment that promotes; Koreans' characteristics; International students’ characteristics; and finally, Lacking of intercultural interaction skills. The most significant division — based on the frequency of comments by participants for interaction facilitating factor— is Having the motivation to interact; and the most frequent mentioned divisions for factors debilitating interaction are Lacking of English/ Korean Linguistic skills, Lacking intercultural interaction skills, Korean students’ characteristics, and Feeling of alienation/ Bad experience. Based on the results, aside from language barrier, both international and Korean students struggle to approach one another due to lack of purpose and similarities. Korean students do not see classrooms as a place for interaction, while international students perceive Koreans to have a lack of awareness and the need to interact. Koreans’ characteristics involved (1) Not having time (Being busy), (2) Being introverted (Being shy), (3) Being conservative (Not being open-minded), (4) Wanting to stay in the comfort zone (Not wanting to be out of the ordinary), (5) Being competitive (Wanting to having good grades), and (6) Being a perfectionist (Not wanting to make mistakes) were addressed by both international and Korean students. Also, international students perceive Korean students to (7) Not being friendly and (8) Preferring only English speaker. Korean students mostly blamed the lack of opportunity, linguistic skills, experience in intercultural contact, and personal fear as the main reasons for their absent in intercultural engagement. The study was conducted at a woman university in Seoul, Korea. Therefore, the results cannot represent other campuses in South Korea. However, the insights from this study could promote understanding between both parties where lack of communication and interaction could lead to misunderstandings and stereotypes. For future research, a study focusing on creating a practical handbook to develop intercultural interaction skills on campus could be developed to help domestic and international students interact better on campus context.;세계화는 사회간 인간의 유동성과 교육에 대한 제한을 없애고있다.
