고등학교 <동아시아사> 수업 방안

Abstract

Changes in East Asian international order of the late 19th century, i.e., a series of processes, in which Japan overcame Qing Dynasty and colonized Chosun and Qing Dynasty, have been described in a very fragmented way in textbooks. Furthermore, it is also true that the explanation of the cause and background is very poor, and it has been filled with descriptions that are completely out of context. The description of these textbooks are a lot of concern that they may cause students who study this chapter and topic to have dichotomous thoughts and inferiority, saying that Japan quickly became a modern nation because of its political and economic superiority; on the contrary, Chosun and Qing Dynasty fell behind Japan politically and economically and degraded to the status of a colony. However, the real reason for the rapid modernization of Japan and the lagged modernization of Chosun and Qing in comparison with that of Japan was because Japan was a country with a social background governed by the samurai class while Chosun and Chung were being governed by the scholar-gentry class. Therefore, the purpose of this study was, when students study modern history in high school <East Asian History>, to let them learn how the characteristics in the pre-modern era as the samurai class or the scholar-gentry class influenced the opening and modernization process of Chosun, Qing and Japan in the late 19th century that ultimately led to changes in the international order in which Japan overwhelmed Korea and Qing, which is for preparing and presenting a effective lesson plan. For this, the study examined the preceding research in history of 'Modernization Movement and the Change of International Relations'; and based on this analysis, we divided Section 1. 'Modernization Movement and Changes in International Relations' of Chapter Ⅴ. 'Seeking to Establish a Modern State' of Edition 2014. 'East Asian History' into three parts: opening, modernization movement, and changes to international order. Based on the results of this analysis, we prepared a lesson plan for 'changes in international order in East Asia in the late 19 century' and thereby suggested teaching-learning instruction plan and activities.;19세기 후반 동아시아 국제질서의 변동, 즉 일본이 청을 압도하고 조선과 청이 일본의 식민지가 되어가는 일련의 과정들은 그동안 교과서에서 매우 단편적으로 서술 되어 왔다. 또한 그 원인과 배경에 관하여서는 더욱 부족하고 맥락 없는 설명들로 채워져 온 것이 사실이다. 이러한 교과서의 서술로는 이 단원과 주제를 학습하는 학생들로 하여금 일본이 정치적·경제적으로 뛰어나서 빠르게 근대국가로 전환하였으며 반대로 조선과 청은 정치적·경제적으로 뒤떨어져서 식민지로 전락하였다는 이분법적인 사고와 열등감을 갖게 할 우려가 있다. 그러나 실제로 일본이 발 빠르게 근대화하고 조선과 청이 그에 비해 근대화가 늦어졌던 까닭은 일본이 무사 사회적 배경을 가진 국가이고 조선과 청은 문인사대부가 지배하는 국가였기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 고등학교 <동아시아사> 에서 근대사를 학습할 때 무사 국가와 문인 사대부 국가라는 전근대 시기의 각국의 성격이 조선과 청, 일본의 개항과 근대화 과정에 영향을 미쳤고 그것이 궁극적으로는 19세기 후반에 일본이 조선과 청을 압도하는 국제질서의 변동을 가져왔음을 알게 하고 이를 효과적으로 수업할 수 있도록 하는 수업 방안을 마련하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 '근대화 운동과 국제 관계의 변동'에 대한 역사학계의 연구 성과 들을 알아보고 이를 바탕으로 2014년판 고등학교 『동아시아사』의 대단원 Ⅴ '근대 국가 수립의 모색'에서 중단원 1에 해당하는 '근대화 운동과 국제 관계의 변동'을 각각 개항과 근대화 운동, 국제질서의 변동 등의 세 부분으로 나누어 분석하였다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 '19세기 후반 동아시아 국제질서의 변동'수업 방안을 마련하고 이를 구체화한 교수-학습 지도안과 활동지를 제시하였다.
