Abstract
Today, one of the main endeavor for autonomous vehicles is to miniaturize the size and reduce cost of many sensors that are essential for understanding the surrounding environment of the autonomous vehicles. Biaxial MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) scanning micromirrors accomplishes this task by creating a 2D (2 dimensional) scan pattern using a laser beam. A MEMS scanning micromirror can be applied to light detection and ranging systems such as LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) for autonomous vehicles. In this research, we present the feasibility testing result of a simple distance measurement system using a 2D vector-graphic microscanner and a 2D raster microscanner. Each microscanner is controlled by analog and digital methods for creating various scan patterns. The intensity of the reflected laser beam has been measured with APD (avalanche photodiode) to estimate the distance and position of the beam has been tracked using PSD (position sensitive detector). Signals from APD and PSD sensors are synchronized by eliminating the delay between them, which enables the detection of the position of an object on the 2D scan pattern. In another configuration, PSD sensor can be excluded from the system by synchronizing the driving current waveforms with the APD signals. To determine the distance of an object, 1D (1 dimensional) and 2D distance measurement experiments are conducted using each microscanner. The intensity-based distance measurement system measures the distance and position of the target object in a 2D region in the form of reflected beam intensity.;최근 자율주행차의 상용화를 위한 많은 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다.
