오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 국내 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 산업 활성화를 위한 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델을 제안하는데 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 선행연구를 통해 오픈소스 소프트웨어 및 오픈소스 비즈니스 모델을 정리하고, 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 생태계 및 기업 분석 통해 국내 GIS 기업에 적합한 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델을 도출하고자 했다. 여기서 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델을 제안하는 방법으로는 경영학에서 주로 사용되는 비즈니스 프레임 워크인 비즈니스 모델 캔버스를 활용하였다. 오픈소스 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델과 관련된 선행연구에서 정리된 11가지 비즈니스 모델 유형은 서비스 지원 모델, 컨설팅 모델, 듀얼 라이선싱 모델, 하이브리드 모델, 로스-리더 모델, 오픈소스 전환 모델, 액세서라이징 모델, 광고 모델, 위젯 프로스팅, 펀딩 및 후원 모델, 브랜드 라이선싱이다. 본 연구에서는 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 기업의 현황 및 비즈니스를 조사하기 위해 OSGeo에 서비스 제공기업으로 등록된 245개 기업을 대상으로 분석하였다. 이중에서 비교적 회사규모가 크고 오픈소스 소프트웨어 프로젝트에 활발히 참여하여 비즈니스를 하고 있는 기업으로는 Boundless와 Azavea가 있었다. 앞에서 정리한 오픈소스 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델의 경우 구글이나 IBM과 같이 규모가 크거나 하드웨어를 판매하는 기업들도 포함되기 때문에 공간정보 분야에 적용하면 실제 적용이 가능한 비즈니스 유형은 서비스 지원 모델, 컨설팅 모델, 듀얼 라이선싱 모델로 국한되는 문제가 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 오픈소스 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델과 해외 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 기업의 비즈니스 사례를 종합하여 실제 기업 인터뷰를 통해 국내 오픈소스 공간정보 분야 기업에 적용 가능한 비즈니스 모델을 재선정하였다. 그 결과 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어에서 가능한 비즈니스 모델은 듀얼 라이선싱, 프리미엄 모델, 버전 업 모델, 하이브리드 모델, 재라이선싱 모델, 문서판매 모델, 전문서비스 모델, 기술지원 모델, 컨퍼런스 모델, 교육인증 모델, 국가R&D사업 모델로 정리할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이를 바탕으로 국내 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 관련 기업을 배포자, 생산자(GPL, Non-GPL), 서드파티 서비스 공급자로 분류하여 기업의 유형에 따라 가능한 오픈소스 공간정보 소프트웨어 비즈니스 모델을 제안하였다. ;This study examines what kind of business model is possible with open source GIS software through analysis of previous study of open source software business model. Recently, interest and utilization of Open Source Software is increasing at domestic and abroad. Open source software allows anyone to freely modify, copy, distribute, and even sell their source code. Therefore Open source software has the advantage of lowering licensing costs, allowing dependencies from existing proprietary software, and enabling efficient and rapid development with opened source code. This phenomenon is also similar to the field of GIS. As interest in open source GIS software increases worldwide, there is a growing interest in the domestic software market. However, the number of companies involved in open source software among Korean GIS industry enterprises is very small, and the development of business model through open source is also weak. Therefore, analyzing the previous study of open source business models and companies that are related to open source GIS software around the world. Then suggest what kind of open source GIS software business model is possible by type of enterprise for promoting the open source GIS software. As a result, possible business models drived from this study in the GIS field are dual licensing model, premium model, upgrade model, hybrid model, re-licensing model, document sales model, professional service model, technical support model, conference model, customized models. And depending on the types of companies in the GIS sector, more detailed open source software business model could be proposed.
