욕망에서 드러나는 에로티시즘과 양가성에 대한 표현 연구

Abstract

Artists in the 20th century began to pay attention to emotion, body, desire, the irrational and non-civic as part of the denial of the intellectual system based on the Western rationalism. The reinterpretation of the values that were in relatively low positions laid the foundation of the shift from vertical order to horizontal order, thereby symbolizing the recovery of the lost humanity. On the other hand, in contrast to traditional materials such as metals, stones, and wood, the usage of soft cloths, latexes, secretions of liquids from body, natural substance such as soil or grass, untouchable light lead to variable and indeterminate forms. Such morphological expressions are associated with touch and instinct, body and desire, and eroticism, which were hindered by rational reasoning and visual-centrism. As a work of eroticism and ambivalence revealed in desire, this study described the manifestation of desire rooted in the unconscious, eroticism, and its ambivalence based of the theory of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, and Georges Bataille. Since the two-sided form of eroticism comes from the intrinsic tendency of humans, this study analyzed it in relation to eating, sex, and food and excrement. Moreover, based on the discussion of the structure of desire created in the consumer society, this study explored the influencing relations of desire of individuals as well as society and culture, and explained that desire which is never filled exists in the contexts. The author of this study used soft materials such as cloths, latexes, and plants to express various media, including three-dimensional structure, installation, photography, and video image. Eroticism and ambivalence hidden in food, rubber balloons, children’s TV programs, and characters were visualized in soft materials as the forms associating remnants, genitalia, and organs. The way of overwrapping a variety of symbols signifying the sacred and subordinate, revealed the desire and eroticism suppressed by authoritative reason. This series of expressions deconstructed the vertical hierarchy between values with the aesthetic implications of postmodernism, liberation from taboos and freedom of desire. ;20세기 예술가들은 서구 합리주의 정신에 근거한 지성 체계에 대한 부정의 일환으로 감성, 육체, 욕망, 비논리, 비문명적인 것들을 끌어올리기 시작했다. 상대적으로 낮은 위치에 속해 있던 가치들에 대한 재조명은 그들 간의 수직적 질서에서 수평적 질서로 이행하는 토대를 마련하고 상실되었던 인간성의 회복을 은유한다. 한편 금속이나 돌, 나무와 같은 전통적인 물질과는 달리 부드러운 천이나 라텍스, 신체에서 나오는 배설물과 분비물, 흙이나 풀과 같은 자연의 물질, 손에 잡히지 않는 빛의 사용 등은 그것의 물리적 특성에 의해 가변적이고 불확정적인 형태를 지니게 되는데, 이러한 형태적 표현은 합리적 이성관과 시각중심주의에 가려져 있던 촉감과 본능, 육체와 욕망 그리고 에로티시즘과 관련하는 것이었다. 본 연구는 욕망에서 드러나는 에로티시즘과 양가성에 대한 작품론이다. 연구자는 무의식에 근원을 두고 있는 욕망의 발현과 에로티시즘, 그것이 내포하는 양가성을 프로이트(Sigmund Freud)와 라캉(Jacques Lacan), 바타이유(Georges Bataille)의 이론을 바탕으로 서술한다. 에로티시즘이 가지는 양면적 형태는 인간이 지니는 본질적인 성향에서 비롯되는데 연구자는 이를 먹는 행위와 성행위, 음식과 배설물의 관계에서 분석한다. 또한 소비사회에서 욕망이 창출되는 구조에 대한 논의를 통해 욕망이 개인적으로 그리고 사회ㆍ문화적으로 어떠한 영향관계 속에 있는지를 파악하고 그 바탕에는 결코 채워지지 않는 욕망이 내재해있음을 서술한다. 연구자는 주로 천이나 라텍스, 식물과 같은 부드러운 소재를 사용하여 입체, 설치, 사진, 영상 등의 다양한 매체로 표현하고 있다. 음식이나 고무풍선, 어린이 TV프로그램, 문자 속에 숨겨져 있는 에로티시즘과 양가성을 부드러운 소재를 이용하여 배설물, 생식기, 내장을 연상시키는 형태로 시각화한다. 성스러운 것과 저급한 것을 의미하는 여러 상징들을 중첩시키는 방식을 통해 권위적인 이성에 의해 억눌려 있던 욕망과 에로티시즘을 드러내고, 이러한 일련의 표현들은 가치들 간의 수직적인 위계 질서를 와해하고 금기로부터의 해방, 욕망의 자유라는 포스트모더니즘의 미학적 의의를 지닌다.
