니트 조직의 변형과 확장을 통한 섬유조형연구

Abstract

From the cradle to the grave, human life is like a marathon race. In this race, it is not decided who will arrive first in the grave. Philosopher Heidegger defines human beings as a being toward death. No one can know the world after death until we experience it, but it is certain that our lives are a process of taking a step toward death and that humans are dying through life. Therefore, the theme of death and life has been a subject of interest to many people from past to present. Likewise, life and death has become fear and dread for this researcher or an expression subject of work activities after this researcher experienced the close observation of a creature at the crossroads of life and death, and bereavement. Artists can express their own feelings from their thoughts or special experiences through creative activities for formative expression, overcome the problems inherent in themselves, and heal wounds. And these art works acquire more intense expression effect based on the material characteristics of the media and materials used. By embodying the work, this researcher attempted to formulate the problems of life and death that are intertwined with each other in the lives of all human beings, using fiber art. In contemporary art, fiber is used not only as a material of cloth and clothes, but as a material of various themes and expressions. As we do not know where existence and non-existence, life and death come from, thread and fiber was used in this study to form an organic form in connection with the meaning of creation, and the meaning of entanglement of many troubles and relationships in life. Through knit, a weaving method, fiber becomes a tool that expresses the inner emotions of the researcher in the form of a tangled form like a single unity without beginning and end. The researchers used the characteristics of textile materials to form a variable structure and knit fiber to shape the intertwining of life and death. Among many creatures, especially humans lead a life, worrying about their identity as Dasein. To be interested in oneself is a characteristic of humans. The researcher went on a journey to find ‘self’ asking herself questions ‘what is life and death and who am I in the journey'. In the process, the confronting self is an insecure human being that is given the time called finite life and exists as an imperfect being, itself. Human beings give themselves up to trivial happiness of everyday life, and also avoid their body in a crowded situation. As we are not satisfied with ourselves, we sometimes challenge new adventures and tensions. In the great frame of life, in the process of constantly contemplating their identity, resting in daily life or deviating, humans face new hope or despair and repeat the continuous step for a new ideal. For the researcher, formative activity is life itself, so the traces of confrontation in the way of finding oneself naturally lead to plastic art work. In particular, this study attempts to establish the existence of self before the proposition of death and to examine the effect of formativeness and the validity by searching the medium of knit which is one field of textile art in expressing inner anxiety. ;요람에서 무덤에 이르기까지 인간의 일생은 마치 마라톤 경주와 같다. 이 경주에서 무덤에 누가 먼저 도착할 것인가는 정해져 있지 않다. 철학자 하이데거는 인간을 죽음을 향해 가는 존재로 규정하고 있다. 죽음 이후의 세계는 경험하기 전까지는 그 누구도 알 수 없지만 확실 한 것은 우리의 삶은 죽음을 향해 한걸음씩 내딛는 과정이며 인간은 삶을 통해 죽어 가고 있다는 것이다. 때문에 죽음과 삶이란 주제는 과거부터 현재까지 많은 사람들에게 관심의 대상이었다. 마찬가지로 생(生)과 사(死)의 갈림길에 선 생명체를 가까이서 지켜본 경험, 죽음으로 인한 이별을 경험한 이후로 연구자에게도 삶과 죽음은 공포와 두려움의 존재가 되었으며 또한 작품 활동의 표현 주제가 되었다. 예술가들은 조형적 표현을 위한 창작 활동을 통해 자신의 생각이나 특별한 경험에서 오는 자신만의 느낌을 표현하거나 자신 안에 내재된 문제를 극복하며, 상처를 치유하기도 한다. 그리고 이러한 예술작품들은 사용되는 매체와 소재의 재료적 특성을 기반으로 더욱 강렬한 표현 효과를 획득하게 된다. 연구자는 작품을 구현함으로써, 실존하는 모든 인간의 생애에서 서로 실타래처럼 얽혀 있는 삶과 죽음의 문제를 섬유예술로써 조형화하고자 했다. 현대미술에서는 섬유가 단순히 천이나 옷의 재료라는 개념을 넘어 다양한 주제와 표현으로써의 소재로 쓰이고 있다, 존재와 비존재, 삶과 죽음의 시작이 명확하게 어디인지 모르는 것처럼 본 연구에서는 실, 섬유를 생성의 의미를 담고, 살아가면서 수많은 고민과 관계의 얽힘이라는 의미와 연관 지어 유기적인 형태를 형성하는데 사용했다. 니트라는 편직 방식을 통해 섬유는 시작과 끝이 없는 하나의 통합체처럼 서로 얽힌 형태로 연구자 자신의 내면의 감정을 표출하는 도구가 된다. 연구자는 섬유 소재의 특성을 활용하여 가변적인 구조를 형성하고 섬유를 편직함으로써 삶과 죽음이 서로 얽혀있음을 조형화하였다. 많은 생명체 중에서 유독 인간은 현존재로의 정체성을 고민하며 삶을 영위해나간다. 자기 자신에 대해 관심을 갖는 것은 인간의 고유한 특징인 것이다. 연구자는 ‘삶과 죽음은 무엇이고 그 여정 속에 나는 누구인가’에 관한 자문 속에서 ‘나’를 찾는 여정에 나섰다. 그 과정 속에 마주하는 자아는 유한한 삶이란 시간을 부여받고 불완전하게 존재하는 불안한 인간 그 자체이다. 인간은 일상의 자질구레한 행복에 자신을 내맡기기도 하고, 소란스런 상황에 몸을 피하기도 한다. 그런 자신의 모습이 만족스럽지 못하여 새로운 모험과 긴장을 향해 도전하기도 한다. 삶이란 큰 틀 안에서 끊임없이 정체성을 고민하고 일상에 안주하며 또는 일탈하는 과정 속에서 새로운 희망 또는 절망을 마주하고 또 다시 새로운 이상을 유도하는 단계를 거듭한다. 연구자에게 조형 활동은 삶 그 자체이기에 자신을 찾아가는 길속에서 마주하는 갈등의 흔적들은 자연스럽게 조형예술작업으로 이어지게 된다. 특히 본 연구는 죽음이라는 명제 앞에 자아의 존재를 확립하고 내면의 불안감을 표현함에 있어 섬유예술의 한 분야인 니트라는 매체를 모색함으로써 그 타당성에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.
