Abstract

This paper covers the author's graduation recital program for master's course completion, including the secular cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach(1685-1750), as known as Coffee Cantata, the fourth piece of Soprano solo Aria <Ah! How sweet coffee taste is(Ei, wie schmeckt der Coffee süsse)> from 《Quietly Silent, Do not tell (Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht), BWV 211》, 《Gondola Race in Venice (La Regata Veneziana)》, a song cycle by Gioacchino Antonio Rossini(1792-1868), and 《Six Waltz Song (Walzer-Gesänge), Op.6》, a song cycle by Alexander Zemlinsky(1871-1942). This paper aimed to explore the life of the composers and the characteristics of the works, thereby applying them to the performance and improving the understanding of the music. Bach's 《Quietly Silent, Do not tell (Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht), BWV 211》is well known as Coffee Cantata, which is a secular cantata comprised of a total of ten songs. The Forth song, <Ah! How Sweet Coffee Is (Ei, wie schmeckt der Coffee süsse)> is a song by Lischen, a heroine, admiring the taste of coffee, in the form of Da capo Aria. The triplet accompaniment and the 16th note accompaniment music presented in the prelude are transformed and developed throughout the song to create unity of the song. Vocal melody emphasizes the lyrics through homogeneous progression, and the accompaniment part comprised of triplets portrays the feeling of Lischen. Rossini’s 《Gondola Race in Venice (La Regata Veneziana)》 is a song cycle with ‘Rossini Crescendo’ technique frequently used in his opera. It consists of three pieces of story before, during, and after gondola race. The song depicts the vivid game situations through the dispersive chords of the accompaniment part, and Anzolletta’s emotion which gradually rises to the climax according to the game situations is expressed by the repetition of the lyrics. The dramatic effect is produced through ‘Rossini Crescendo’, which is expressed by gradually increasing pitch, the changing melody, and the full accompaniment of chords. Zemlinsky is a composer who was active in the transitional period of late Romanticism and the 20th century modern music. His early song, 《Six Waltz Song (Walzer-Gesänge), Op.6》 stands out with the brilliant piano accompaniment, which uses the tone painting and depicts the contents of the lyrics, thereby forming the overall atmosphere of the song. Hemiola rhythm influenced by Brahms comes from the part where the song atmosphere needs to be changed or the main lyrics were sung to effectively support the vocal rhythm. ;본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업 연주회 프로그램 중 요한 세바스티안 바흐(Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750)의 세속 칸타타《조용히 침묵하세요, 이야기 하지 말고(Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht), BWV 211》중 네 번째 곡인 소프라노 독창 아리아 <아! 커피 맛이 얼마나 달콤한지(Ei, wie schmeckt der Coffee süsse)>, 조아키노 안토니오 로시니(Gioacchino Antonio Rossini, 1792-1868)의 연가곡《베네치아의 곤돌라 경주(La Regata Veneziana)》, 알렉산더 쳄린스키(Alexander Zemlinsky, 1871-1942)의 연가곡 《여섯 개의 왈츠노래(Walzer-Gesänge), Op. 6》를 중심으로 작곡가의 생애와 작품의 특징에 대해 연구하였다. 바흐의 《조용히 침묵하세요, 이야기 하지 말고(Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht), BWV 211》는 커피 칸타타로 잘 알려져 있으며, 총 열 곡으로 구성된 세속 칸타타이다. 그 중 네 번째 곡인 <아! 커피 맛이 얼마나 달콤한지(Ei, wie schmeckt der Coffee süsse)>는 여주인공 리스헨(Lischen)이 커피에 대해 예찬 하는 곡으로 다 카포 아리아 형식으로 이루어져 있다. 이 곡은 전주에서 제시되는 셋잇단음표 반주음형과 16분음표 반주음형이 곡 전체에 변형, 발전되어 나오며 곡의 통일감을 느낄 수 있게 한다. 성악선율은 동형진행을 통해 가사를 강조하고 있으며 이를 셋잇단음표로 구성된 반주부가 뒷받침하며 설레는 리스헨의 심정을 묘사한다. 로시니의《베네치아의 곤돌라 경주(La Regata Veneziana)》는 그의 오페라에서 자주 사용되는‘로시니 크레센도’기법이 잘 나타나는 연가곡으로 곤돌라 경주 전, 중, 후의 이야기가 세 곡으로 구성되어있다. 이 곡은 반주부의 분산화음을 통해 생생한 경기 상황 묘사가 이루어지고 있으며, 경기 상황에 따라 점차 고조되어가는 안졸레타의 감정은 가사의 반복으로 표현된다. 이때 점점 커지는 셈여림, 변화되는 선율, 꽉 찬 화성의 반주로 표현되는‘로시니 크레센도’를 통해 극적인 효과를 연출한다. 쳄린스키는 후기 낭만주의 음악과 20세기 현대음악의 과도기적 시기에 활동한 작곡가이다. 그의 초기가곡인《여섯 개의 왈츠노래(Walzer-Gesänge), Op.6》는 화려한 피아노 반주가 돋보이는 곡으로 음화기법(tone painting)을 통해 피아노 반주부가 가사의 내용을 묘사하며 곡의 전체적인 분위기를 형성한다. 브람스의 영향을 받은 헤미올라 리듬은 곡의 분위기 전환이 필요한 부분이나 주요 가사를 노래하는 부분에 등장해 성악선율을 효과적으로 뒷받침해준다.
