영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동 간의 종단적 교류 관계

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 Sameroff(2009)의 교류모델을 이론적 틀로 하여, 자기회귀교차지연모형을 통해 시간의 흐름에 따른 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동 간의 교류적 관계를 살펴보는 것이다. 연구 참가자는 만 1~3세 영유아기 자녀를 양육하는 1,535명의 어머니들이며, 육아정책연구소에서 수행하는 한국아동패널연구(Panel Study on Korean Children [PSKC]) 자료 중 2차년도(T1, 2009년, 만 1세), 3차년도(T2, 2010년, 만 2세), 그리고 4차년도(T3, 2011년, 만 3세)의 자료를 사용하였다. 영유아의 부정적 정서성은 Buss와 Plomin (1984)의 EAS 기질 척도, 어머니의 우울은 Kessler 등(2002)의 Kessler 우울 척도(K6), 어머니의 양육행동은 Bornstein 등(1996)의 양육스타일 척도(PSQ)로 측정되었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 21.0과 AMOS 21.0을 사용하여 각각 빈도분석, 교차분석 및 상관관계분석과 확인적 요인분석 및 자기회귀교차지연모형분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, T1과 T2의 어머니의 양육행동은 각각 T2와 T3의 영유아의 부정적 정서성에 영향을 미치는 부모 효과만이 발견됨으로써, 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 양육행동은 교류적 관계를 보이지 않았다. 둘째, 어머니의 우울과 양육행동은 T1, T2 및 T3 등의 세 시점에 걸쳐 상호 영향을 주고받는 교류적 관계를 나타내었다. 즉, T1과 T2의 어머니의 우울은 각각 T2와 T3의 어머니의 온정적 양육행동에 부적 영향을, T1과 T2의 어머니의 온정적 양육행동은 각각 T2와 T3의 어머니의 우울에 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 마지막으로, 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울은 세 시점에 걸쳐 서로 영향을 주고받는 교류적 관계를 나타내었다. 즉, T1과 T2의 영유아의 부정적 정서성은 각각 T2와 T3의 어머니의 우울에 정적 영향을, T1과 T2의 어머니의 우울은 각각 T2와 T3의 영유아의 부정적 정서성에 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 이 외에도, T2의 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동 가운데 어느 한 변인은 T1과 T3의 다른 두 가지 변인들 간의 관계를 매개하였으며, 각 변인은 세 시점에 걸쳐 연속성을 나타내었다. 종합해 보면, 본 연구는 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 양육행동 간의 관계에서 부모 효과를 확인하고, 어머니의 우울과 양육행동 간의 관계와 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 간의 관계에서 각각 교류적 관계를 발견하였다. 본 연구는 횡단적 선행 연구들에서 살펴보지 못했던 변인들 간의 상호 영향력을 동시에 고려함으로써, 시간의 흐름에 따른 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동 간의 교류적 관계를 밝히고자 시도하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 또한, 영유아 특성과 어머니 특성 간의 교류적 관계에서 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동의 종단적 매개효과를 발견하고, 영유아의 부정적 정서성과 어머니의 우울 및 양육행동의 연속성을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 영유아기 자녀를 양육하는 어머니들의 심리적 건강에 대한 관리 및 개입과 바람직한 양육행동을 도모하는 사회적 서비스의 제공 및 유지의 필요성을 강조하였다. 본 연구는 아동·가족 관련 정책과 부모교육 및 상담 등의 프로그램을 개발하는 데 중요한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있으리라 기대한다.;The primary purpose of this study was to examine the longitudinal transactional relationships among children's negative emotionality, mothers' depression, and parenting behavior using autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. Data were drawn from the 2nd (T1) through 4th (T3) wave data (2009~2011) of the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). A total of 1,535 mothers of 1- to 3-year-old children participated in this study. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, T1 and T2 mothers’ parenting behavior had a significant effects on T2 and T3 children's negative emotionality, whereas children's negative emotionality did not predict mothers’ parenting behavior. Second, there were transactional relationships of mothers' depression and parenting behavior from T1 to T3. That is, there were parents effects as well as child effects. Third, there were transactional relationships of children's negative emotionality and mothers' depression from T1 to T3. That is, there were parents effects as well as child effects. In addition, children's negative emotionality, mothers' depression, and parenting behavior at the T2 were proved to have significant mediating effects between the variables at the T1 and T3. Lastly, children's negative emotionality, mothers' depression, and parenting behavior showed continuity from T1 to T3. In conclusion, the present study found the parent effects in the relationships between children's negative emotionality and mothers' parenting behaviors, and identified the transactional relationships between children's negative emotionality and maternal depression, as well as between maternal depression and parenting behavior in early years of life. The findings support a transactional model of reciprocal effects among children's negative emotionality, mothers' depression, and parenting behavior. This study could be expected to be used as a source for the development of social welfare policies, counseling, and programs for children and families.
