Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 졸업연주 프로그램 중, 헨리 퍼셀(Henry Purcell, 1659-1695)의 세미 오페라《요정 여왕(The Fairy Queen)》에 나오는 아리아<오라, 하늘을 나는 모든 새들이여(Come, all ye songsters of the sky)>,<들어라! 하늘에 울려 퍼지는 소리를(Hark! the ech'ing air)>, <어느 매력적인 밤(One charming night)>과 랜돈 로날드(Landon Ronald, 1873-1938)의《삶의 여정 (A Cycle of Life)》, 그리고 호아킨 투리나(Joaquin Turina, 1882-1949)의《노래 형식의 시(Poema en forma de canciones Op.19)》를 중심으로 각 곡의 특징 및 구성을 살펴보았다. 퍼셀의《요정 여왕》은 셰익스피어(William Shakespeare, 1564-1616)의 희극 <한 여름 밤의 꿈(A Midsummer Night's Dream, 1594)>을 인용하여 쓴 작품으로, 세미 오페라이다. 이 작품은 세미 오페라라는 장르적 특성으로 인하여 독특하게 대사를 하는 전문배우와 대사를 하지 않는 전문가수로 배역을 나누었다. 서곡과 총 5막으로 구성되어 있는데, 그중에서 <오라, 하늘을 나는 모든 새들이여>, <들어라! 하늘에 울려 퍼지는 소리를>,그리고 <어느 매력적인 밤>은 2막과 5막에 등장하는 곡이다. 가사가 가지고 있는 의미를 꾸밈음, 상행하는 멜로디 선율, 그리고 화려한 멜리스마로 표현하는 것이 특징이다. 로날드의《삶의 여정》은 시인 해롤드 심슨(Harold simpson, 1878-1944)의 시에 선율을 붙인 곡이다. 이 연가곡은 모두 다섯 곡으로 이루어졌으며, 사계절을 삶, 사랑과 연관시킨 시에서 시어가 갖고 있는 의미를 그대로 음악으로 표현하고자 하였다. 특히, 봄, 여름, 가을, 겨울을 표현하기 위해 반주부와 성악선율에는 음정차이가 거의 나지 않는 잔잔한 음형, 8분음표의 빠르고 지속적인 음형, 점 4분음표로 느리게 진행되는 음형, 8분음표로 가볍고 빠르게 고음에서 아래로 하행하는 선율진행 등이 나타난다. 투리나의 가곡집《노래 형식의 시》는 라몬 데 깜뽀아모르(Ramón de campo amor, 1817-1901)의 시 네 작품에 선율을 붙인 곡이다. 피아노 솔로 곡을 포 함하여 총 다섯 곡으로 구성되어 있으며 스페인 민속음악의 특징을 두드러지 게 표현한 작품이다. 특히 각 곡에는, 멜리스마, 장식음, 기타를 연상시키는 반주형태, 그리고 당김음과 각종 스페인의 민속적 리듬 등 스페인 음악 고유의 특성이 잘 드러나 있다. ;This paper examines the characteristics and composition of selective songs from the author's graduate recital program as followed:<Come all ye songsters of the sky>, <Hark! the ech'ing air>, <One charming night> from the opera 《The fairy queen》by Henry Purcell(1659-1695),《A cycle of life》by Landon Ronald(1873-1938), and《Poema en forma de canciones Op.19》by Joaquin Turina(1882-1949). Henry Purcell's <The Fairy Queen> is a semi-opera that based on Shakespeare’s <A midsummer night's dream>. Because of characteristics of the genre, semi-opera, this work uniquely divided rolls into professional actors with lines and professional singers with no lines. Among the overture and five acts, <come all ye songsters>, <Hark! the ech'ing air>, and <One charming night> appeared in the second and the fifth act. They are ourstanding in expressing the meaning of the lyrics directly into the melodies with ornaments, up-and-coming melodies, and fancy melisma. Landon Ronald and Harold Simpson jointly worked on 《A cycle of life》 of song and lyrics respectively. This song cycle is composed of five songs which portrayed a meaning of Simpson’s poem to music with relating the meaning of life and love to the four seasons. Especially, to express spring, summer, autumn and winter, the accompaniment section and vocal melody are composed of calm melodies with almost no difference in pitch, fast and continuous sound of eighth note, slow sound with dotted quarter note, and light and fast downward with eighth note. Joaquin Turina's song cycle 《Poema en forma de canciones Op.19》is based on Ramón de campoamor’s four poems. It consists of five songs including a piano solo, and characterizes by wide varieties of Spanish folk songs as followed: melisma, ornaments, guitar-like accompaniment, and syncopation.
