Abstract
이 모형들을 이용한 계절 예측은 1979-2012년 동안의 0-, 1-, 2-month lead time에서 three years out cross-validated temporal correlation coefficient skill (3년 교차 검증된 상관계수 스킬)이 각각 0.70, 0.69, 0.68로 유효한 예측 능력을 보였다.;During October to December (OND), Sri Lanka rainfall reaches its annual peak. To predict the amount of Sri Lankan OND rainfall is important for hydropower planning, agriculture productivity and disaster preparedness. In this study, the multiple regression models have been developed to explain and predict Sri Lankan OND rainfall. Predictors are selected based on correlation analysis between OND Sri Lanka rainfall index and global sea surface temperature anomalies. A partial least square regression method is used to select independent predictors that include the western Pacific and Maritime Continent sea surface temperature (SST) tendency, the southern Pacific SST tendency and the southern Atlantic SST tendency. The physical processes associated with the predictors show that they are related to the enhancement of the cyclonic circulation to the east of Sri Lanka. In order to predict Sri Lankan OND rainfall, multiple regression models are developed at 0-, 1- and 2-month lead times. The same three predictors are used at all three lead times with slight modifications in their domain and they represent the same physical processes at all three lead times. The physical and dynamical processes associated with all predictors indicate that they have a crucial impact on Sri Lankan OND rainfall. Seasonal predictions with these models showed high forecasting capability with a significant three years out cross-validated temporal correlation coefficient skill of 0.70, 0.69 and 0.68 for 1979-2012 at 0-, 1- and 2-month lead times respectively.
