China’s Perception on the Korean Peninsula in the Editorials of The Global Times

Abstract

본 논문에서는 한반도에서 발생한 문제를 바라보는 중국의 인식을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로「환구시보」에 개제된 한반도문제 관련 주제의 사설을 분석하였다. 중국의 언론은 중국의 개혁개방정책과 함께 시장경제 도입 후 시장화의 영향을 받았지만, 여전히 모든 신문은 당의 기관지로서 사회주의 언론의 특성을 지니고 있다. 때문에 모든 언론의 보도 방향은 중국 정부의 정책과 같다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 특성을 가진 중국 신문 중「환구시보」의 경우, 상업적 특성 또한 많이 가지고 있기 때문에, 중국 내부 여론 또한 민감하게 나타내는 특징을 보이고 있다. 본 연구의 분석대상은 2016년 7월부터 2017년 10월까지 16개월간 한반도에서 일어나는 문제를 다룬 「환구시보」의 사설 총 156개이다. 본 논문은 위의 16개월 기간에 일어난 한반도 관련 문제에 관한 사설 156개를 수집하고, 내용분석 방법을 통해 양적 방법과 질적 방법으로 연구하였다. 크게 남한 관련 주제와 북한 관련 주제로 나누었는데 한국 관련 주제의 사설은 사드배치, 정권변화, 어업분쟁, 한미연합훈련 4가지로 분류하였으며, 북한 관련 주제의 사설은 북핵문제, 미사일 발사, 김정남 사건 3가지로 나뉘었다. 여기에 한반도 문제를 다루고 있기는 하지만 한국과 북한에 관한 의견보다 ‘한중일’과 ‘한미일’ 등 동북아시아의 세 국가 이상의 관계를 주제로 한 사설들이 여러 차례 게재되었기에 이것을 일대일로(One road one belt)에 대해 논하는 주제로 분류하였다. 8개 주제로 분류된 사설을 다시 사용된 단어의 양과 빈도 차이를 순서대로 산출하여 해당 주제에 관해 어떤 프레임을 가지고 있는지, 또한 해당 주제에 대하여 제시하는 해결 방안은 어떠한 것이 있는지 알아보았다. 해당 주제를 분석한 결과 「환구시보」의 한반도 문제 관련 사설에 나타난 중국은 한반도 문제의 발생 원인을 바라보는 측면에서는 북한과 인식을 공유하고 있었으며, 문제의 해결 방법을 바라보는 측면에서는 한국과 인식을 공유하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. ;This study analyzed the editorials related to the issues of the Korean Peninsula published in The Global Times (Huanqiu Shibao), aiming to investigate China’s perception on the issues occurring in the Korean Peninsula. Chinese media were influenced by marketization after the introduction of the market economy along with the China’s reform and open-door policy; however, still, all newspapers have a characteristic of the socialist press as a party organ. Thus, the direction of reports in all media is the same as the Chinese government policy. Of the Chinese newspapers with this characteristics, since The Global Times has a lot of commercial characteristics, too, it has a characteristic of being sensitive to the China’s internal public opinion. This study analyzes a total of 156 editorials in The Global Times, which dealt with the issues occurring in the Korean Peninsula for 16 months from July 2016 through October 2017. This study collected 156 editorials on the issues related to the Korean Peninsula and investigated them, quantitatively and qualitatively through the method of content analysis. This study divided the topics broadly into South Korea-related topics and North Korea-related ones, and the editorials with South Korea-related topics were classified into four topics, including THAAD deployment, regime change, fishing dispute, and the South Korea-U.S. Joint Military Drills, while those with North Korea-related topics were divided into three topics, including North Korean nuclear issue, missile launch and the murder case of Kim Jong-nam. In addition, it dealt with the issue of the Korean Peninsula, but since those on the topic of the relationships among three Northeast Asian countries, such as ‘South Korea, China, and Japan,’ and ‘South Korea, the United States and Japan’ were published several times, rather than the opinions on South Korea and North Korea, these were classified into the topic of discussing One Road, One Belt. This study counted the amount and frequency of words used in the editorials classified into eight topics and investigated the frame for the relevant topics and the solution to the relevant topics presented in them according to the order. As a result of an analysis of the relevant topics, in the editorials related to the issue of the Korean Peninsula in The Global Times, China shared the perception of the causes of the issue of the Korean Peninsula with North Korea and of the solution to the issue with South Korea.
