Abstract

Introduction •Purpose: To create a home-schooling book for parents to teach the human body system through reading, activities, and hands-on science experiments •Rationale: Based on CBI, TBLT and intensive reading, students not only gain scientific knowledge but also learn the target language through reading, activities and hands-on science experiments. •Target learners: Grades 4-6 in elementary school, mixed gender, one on one class. •Proficiency: Intermediate high according to the ACTFL •Learning context: Home-schooling Method •CBI / TBLT •Intensive reading Expected Outcomes •Without professionals’ help, parents can provide their children rich thematic input. •Parents can effectively encourage their children to maximize oral language use and to build their oral language competence through the English-rich learning process. •Along with their best caregiver, students naturally learn sufficient amount of language and language skills through scientific lessons and enjoy the process of learning through a variety of tasks, activities, and experiments. •Students develop flexibility and creativity in thinking.
