참여관찰법을 활용한 지적장애인 부부의 자녀양육 일상생활

Abstract

본 연구는 지적장애인 부부의 자녀양육 일상생활을 참여관찰을 통하여 이해하고, 발견하여 사회복지적 함의를 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 참여관찰은 매일 매일의 일상생활에서 일어나는 일들을 관찰하며, 연구 문제에 대한 답을 얻기 위한 자료 수집을 하며, 현상에 대한 보다 진실 된 내면을 파악할 수 있고 이해할 수 있다는 점이 특징이 있다. 이처럼 참여관찰에서 연구자는 자신의 연구에 집중시키는 특정 관심들과 특정 질문을 가지고 현장에 들어간다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 자녀를 양육하는 지적장애인 부부의 일상생활을 생생하게 드러내고 이해하기 위해 참여관찰 연구방법론을 활용하였다. 이에 따라 연구 질문은 “지적장애인 부부의 자녀양육 일상생활은 어떻게 이루어지고 있는가?”이다. 본 연구참여자는 수도권에 거주하고 있는 초등학생까지의 자녀를 둔 지적장애인 부부 한 쌍과 자녀 1명(총 3명)이며, 이화여자대학교 생명윤리위원회 승인일(2016. 11. 2, IRB No. 123-13) 이후 2016년 11월부터 2017년 2월까지, 3개월 동안 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 본격적인 참여관찰을 실시하기 이전 지적장애인 부부와 아동과의 라포 형성 및 참여관찰에 따른 불편함을 최소화하기 위해 2주간 8회 정도 짧은 만남을 진행한 이후, 본격적인 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 이에 따라 본격적인 참여관찰은 매주 1회씩 총 13회에 걸쳐 이루어졌으며, 1회 실시 시 소요된 시간은 최소 5시간에서 10시간 정도이다. 참여관찰 장소는 집안과 집밖에서 이루어졌다. 연구 자료는 지적장애인 부부의 일상생활을 담은 현장노트, 현장메모, 관찰일지(현장일지), 현장일기 등을 활용하였다. 그리고 얻어진 자료들을 해석하기 위해서 참여관찰 분석 방법 중 Hatch(2002)의 귀납적 분석절차를 따랐다. Hatch(2002)의 귀납적 분석절차에서는 의미론적 관계에 근거한 영역별로 분류하기 위해 Spradly(1979)가 제시하고 있는 영역분석 방법을 차용하고 있다. 이를 통해 분석한 결과 총 181개의 참여관찰 사례를 통해 ‘자녀양육의 고단함 속에 혼신을 다해 사랑으로 기르는 삶’이 도출하였다. 그리고 ‘분주한 일상의 반복’이라는 1개 범주, 9개 주제, 23개의 소주제를 도출하였다. 먼저 [출근과 등교준비로 바쁜 아침]으로 ‘전쟁을 하고 있는 우리의 아침’, ‘내일 날씨에 따른 의복 챙기기’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 두 번째, [규칙적인 학교 등교]에서는 ‘적응하기 힘든 자녀를 위한 결정’, ‘안전한 등교를 위한 도움받기’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 세 번째로 [학교 활동 참여의 제약]에서는 ‘담임선생님과의 힘든 관계’, ‘교육 경험을 나눌 사람 없음’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 네 번째, [함께하는 귀가길]에서는 ‘아이와 함께 퇴근하기’, ‘규칙적인 쇼핑을 통한 과일 챙기기’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 다섯 번째, [학습지원에 대한 열정과 어려움]에서는 ‘알림장을 통한 학교생활 참여’, ‘함께 있어주기를 통한 긍정적 지지’, ‘부부에게 너무나 어려운 학습계획표 및 학습현황’, ‘학습을 지원해줄 자원봉사자 구하기 어려움’, ‘아버지의 열성적인 학습지원’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 여섯 번째, [퇴근 후 저녁식사]에서는 ‘맞벌이 부부로서 저녁식사 준비 부담’, ‘훈련을 통한 아버지의 요리’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 일곱 번째, [가족이 함께 마무리하는 일상]에서는 ‘아이와 함께 잠들기’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 여덟 번째, [건강을 지키기 위한 노력]에서는 ‘재활치료로 장애 예방하기’, ‘구강관리를 위한 치료 스케줄 기억하기’, ‘코피가 자주 나는 아이에 대처하기’, ‘자녀의 건강에 대한 염려’, ‘병원 이용의 규칙성’, ‘병원치료와 치료 후 보상’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 끝으로 [가족이 함께 하는 여행]에서는 ‘우리가 선택할 수 있는 곳은 어린이대공원’의 소주제가 도출되었다. 이처럼 지적장애인 부부는 자녀를 양육하며 '분주한 일상을 반복'하고 있었다. 그리고 그들이 ‘이해’하고 ‘선택’할 수 있는 자원이 제한적임에 따라 자녀를 양육하며 도전을 받기도 하였다. 하지만, 부부는 한정된 자원 내에서 그들 스스로 경험을 통해 얻게 된 지식, 주변 사회복지사로부터 알게 된 정보 등을 활용해가며 순간순간을 대처하는 등 부모로서 최선을 다해 사랑으로 아이를 기르고 있었다. 그리고 ‘가족’이라는 울타리 안에서 자녀양육을 통해 일상의 소소한 행복과 기쁨을 느끼며 삶을 살아가고 있었다.;The purpose of this study is to examine how the couples with intellectual disabilities are raising their children by observing their daily life in a participation manner to seek the social-welfare undertone. In the participant observation, the researcher enters the scene with the certain concern and certain question concentrated on his researcher. Therefore, this study used the participant observation research methodology to reveal and understand the daily life of the couples with intellectual disabilities raising children. Accordingly, the study question is “How is the children raising daily life of couples with intellectual disabilities being led?” The participants in this study are 1 couple with intellectual disabilities raising children up to elementary students and one child(total 3 persons) who resided in the capital area, and the participant observation was conducted for 3 months from November, 2016 to February, 2017 after receiving the approval from Institutional Review Board(IRB). The full-scale participant observation was conducted after having a brief meeting 8 times for 2 weeks to form the rapport between the couple with intellectual disabilities and their child and minimize the inconvenience caused by the participant observation. Accordingly, the full-scale participant observation was carried out once a week throughout total 13 times and the time required to conduct one time was from 5 hours to 10 hours. The participant observation was carried out inside home and outside home. The scene notebook, scene memo, observation journal(scene journal), and scene diary embodying the daily life of couples with intellectual disabilities were used as the study materials. The inductive analysis procedure by Hatch(2002) was used among the participant observation analysis methods to interpret the obtained materials. The scope analysis method adduced by Spradly(1979) is being borrowed in the inductive analysis procedure by Hatch(2002) to classify by scope on the basis of the semantic relationship. As a result of analyzing through it, ‘The life of raising by love body and soul in the hardship of child raising’ was drawn through total 181 participant observation cases. And 1 category called ‘Repetition of busy life’, 9 themes, and 23 sub-themes were drawn. First, the sub-themes: ‘our morning in war’ and ‘preparing clothes according to tomorrow’s weather’ were drawn from [Busy morning with preparing to go to work and go to school]. Second, the sub-themes: ‘decision for children having difficulty adapting’ and ‘receiving help to go to school safely’ were drawn from [going to school regularly]. Third, the sub-themes: ‘difficult relationship with homeroom teacher’ and ‘lack of people to share the education experience’ were drawn from [restriction of the school activity participation]. Fourth, the sub-themes: ‘getting off work with child’ and ‘taking fruits through regular shopping’ were drawn from [on one’s way home with child]. Fifth, the sub-themes: ‘participating in school life through homework dairy’, ‘positive support through being together’, ‘learning planning chart and learning condition too difficult for couple’, ‘difficulty finding volunteers who will help learn’, and ‘father’s passionate support for learning’ from [passion and difficulty on learning support]. Sixth, the sub-themes: ‘pressure in preparing for dinner as double-income couple’ and ‘father’s cooking through training’ were drawn from [dinner after leaving the office]. Seventh, the sub-theme called ‘sleeping with child’ was drawn from [daily life that whole family finalizes together]. Eighth, ‘preventing disability by rehabilitation’, ‘remembering the treatment schedule for oral health’, ‘coping with child bleeding at the nose usually’, ‘worry about child’s health’, ‘regularity of hospital use’, and ‘hospital treatment and post-treatment reward’ were drawn from [effort to keep the health]. Finally, the sub-theme called ‘what we can choose is Children’s Grand Park’ was drawn from [travel with whole family]. Like this, the couple with intellectual disabilities was repeating the busy life while raising their child. They also underwent challenge as the official social support system was not arranged. However, the couple with intellectual disabilities was living a life of raising child with love body and soul in the hardship of child-raising. And they were living a life of doing their best feeling the trivial pleasure in the daily life through the child-raising like usual parents.
