The thesis aims to properly understand and analyze Vitali's <Chaconne>. The violin can be said to be one of the most important instruments in Western musical history. It is especially surprising that while the violin is quite an old instrument invented in the 16th century, the instruments at the time were largely the same as contemporary instruments. The violin occupied a very important position in the instrumental music of the Baroque era as well, and its sphere of influence, centered on Italy, reached across Europe. Early baroque instrumental music resembled vocal music in form. Beginning with relatively simple pieces having single movements, music in the theme and variations form gradually began to develop. As a result, musical forms unique to the violin and divergent from those of vocal music came to be established. The <Chaconne> in g minor by Tommaso Vitali (1665-1747), a duet for violin and piano in the theme and variation form, was a piece that played an major role in the development of such instrumental music. Exactly what year Vitali's <Chaconne> was composed cannot be known, and the original score has not survived. The piece that we know today has been interpreted by musical theory scholars, interpreters and musicians, and is substantially different from the original piece. The work is based on a g minor ostinato G-F-E♭-D melody, and comprises a series of some 48 short variations, in which musical elements such as tonality, form, rhythm and melody are altered in various manners. The piece is thought to be one of the pieces that best represent the 'chaconne' genre of the Baroque era.;서양음악사에 있어서 바이올린은 가장 중요한 악기 중 하나로 손꼽을 수 있다.
