Abstract

세자르 프랑크는 19세기 낭만주의의 대표적인 작곡가이며 오르가니스트였다. 그는 독일적인 가정환경과 출생지 벨기에의 문화, 파리로의 이주를 통해 복합적인 문화를 경험할 수 있었고, 이러한 것을 바탕으로 그의 음악에는 그것들이 조화롭게 작곡되어있다. 급작스런 전조, 변하기 쉬운 화성 등의 자유로운 시도들은 전형적인 프랑스의 음악적 특징을 보여주지만, 형식면에서는 독일적인 고전적 형식을 취하고 있다. 이처럼 프랑크는 고전적인 음악양식과 낭만주의적 음악요소를 조화롭게 작곡하였다고 할 수 있다. 또한 프랑크는 후기 낭만 시대에 순수 기악 음악을 발전시킨 프랑스의 대표적인 작곡가이기도 하였다. 오르가니스트였던 프랑크는 바흐 이후의 최고의 오르가니스트라는 극찬을 받으며 프랑스 오르간 음악을 부활시키고 다시 발전시켰다. 특별히 관현악법에서는 베를리오즈와 리스트, 바그너 등에게서 영향을 받았으나, 전반적인 형식에서는 이전 시대의 베토벤과 바흐의 영향을 받았다. 이러한 프랑크만의 독특하고 다양한 작곡 기법들이 들어있는 것이 그의 후기 대표작 바이올린과 피아노를 위한 소나타 A장조<Sonata for Violin and Piano in A Major>이다. 이 곡은 그의 유일한 소나타 작품으로 4악장으로 구성되어 있으며 순환 형식을 사용하고 있다.;César Franck was a representative composer and organist in nineteenth-century romanticism. He experienced mixed culture through his birthplace of Belgium, German family environment and migration to Paris. In his compositions, Frank embraced his mixed cultural backgrounds harmoniously. Although his free attempts in composition such as unexpected modulation and changeable harmony presents typical French music features, his music takes German classical form in structure. In this way, Frank combined classical music forms and Romantic music elements in harmony. Frank also a representative French composer who developed pure instrumental music in late Romantic period. Highly praised as a superb organist after Bach, he resurrected and developed French organ music. In the overall music format, Frank was influenced by Beethoven and Bach in earlier period but particularly in orchestration he was influenced by Liszt, Berlioz and Wagner. Franck's unique and diverse composition techniques are contained in his representative later work, Violin Sonata in A Major. As the only piece of violin sonata that he composed, this is consisted with four movements employing cyclic form. He achieved unity across multiple movements using three circulation period. Moreover, this piece shows colorful harmony and unexpected modulation as a Romantic music. This thesis aims to analyze and study Franck’s representative later work, Violin Sonata in A major, based on Franck’s biography, the historical background of his time, and his musical traits.
