Johannes Brahms Violin sonata No.3 in d minor Op.108에 대한 연구 및 분석

Abstract

요하네스 브람스(Johannes Brahms, 1833-1897)는 낭만주의 시대의 대표적인 작곡가로 독일 음악계의 3대 작곡가인 바흐, 베토벤, 브람스 중 한 사람으로 칭송 받고 있다. 또한 그는 보수적 악파의 작곡가로 고전주의의 양식을 중시하고 추구하면서 낭만주의의 감성적인 색채를 융합시킴으로서 신고전주의를 이끌어낸 중요한 작곡가이다. 여행 중 매료되었던 헝가리의 민속적 색채를 작품에 가미하면서 브람스만이 갖는 개성적인 작품을 창작하기도 하였다. 그는 오페라를 제외한 여러 장르의 작품들을 작곡하였는데, 그 중 2중주에서부터 6중주에까지 이르는 다양한 편성의 실내악을 작곡 하는 데에 특히 더 관심과 열정을 가지고 있었다. 브람스는 바이올린과 피아노가 함께 하는 3개의 바이올린 소나타를 남겼는데, 그 중에서 최고의 걸작이라고 칭송받는 바이올린 소나타 3번 d단조 Op. 108이 있다. 바이올린 소나타 3번은 이전에 작곡되었던 1번과 2번에 비해 가장 화려하고 정열적이며 격렬한 진행이 특징이다. 이 곡을 작곡할 당시 친구들의 죽음으로 바이올린 소나타 중 유일한 단조의 곡을 작곡하게 된 브람스의 심리적인 요소도 살펴볼 수 있다. 브람스의 쓸쓸한 인생관과 내성적 변화가 느껴지는 이 곡은 다른 소나타들과 다르게 4개의 악장으로 구성되어 있다. 1악장은 소나타형식으로 작곡 되어있고, 당김음의 선율이 매력적인 악장이다. 2악장은 2부 형식의 곡으로 G현에서 연주되는 바이올린의 풍부한 주제선율이 아름답다. 3악장은 3부 형식으로 스케르쪼의 성격을 띄고 있다. 4악장은 소나타 론도 형식의 악장으로 가장 화려하고 속도감 있는 악장으로, 브람스의 대표적인 작곡기법인 복합리듬, 당김음에 의한 헤미올라, 대위법적 화성진행 등 브람스의 특징을 잘 나타내고 있다. 본 논문에서는 브람스의 바이올린 소나타 3번을 중심으로 그가 추구하는 음악적 의도와 특징들에 대해 분석하고 연구하며 브람스의 음악에 좀 더 다가가고자 한다.;In this paper, I investigated Johannes Brahms' representative piece, Violin Sonata No.3 d minor Op.108. Although living in the age of Romanticism, the era when human emotions are directly and freely expressed via music, Brahms created a new form of music so called 'Neo-classicism', combining Classical forms with Romanticist elements. As Brahms' particular interest was in ensemble pieces, albeit composing many types of music, he left three pieces of violin sonata, among which Violin Sonata No.3 d minor Op.108 is known to be the most representative piece in which the characteristics of Neo-classicism are manifestly expressed. In this context, I further examine his techniques that can be discovered throughout all the movements of Violin Sonata No.3 d minor Op. 103, searching how he combines those traits of Romanticism with the established traditions and how his music style was influenced by his life and musical ideas. Brahms Violin Sonata No.3 d minor Op.108 is considered to reflect on his view of music in the pursuit of Absolute Music as written in traditional sonata form and it was composed in minor key with the composition of solely four movements that can be differentiated from other violin sonatas. In general, one can find such characteristics in many of his compositions as rich chords, the usage of irregular phrases, arpeggios, lyrical melodic lines, various rhythms, frequent changing of keys, counterpoint imitation, pedal points, Hemiola, syncopation and the other elements of Romanticism are well presented in classical form. Those of three concepts, namely, Bach's counterpoint, Beethoven’s classical form and Schuman's lyrical sentiments are well combined each other, resulting in achieving his own musical color. It is worth noting that his personal experiences also have influenced on his music. Particularly, the death of his friends indeed paved a way for him to come to a state where he searched for the meaning of the death by which he expressed feelings about the desperation of life as often discovered in many pieces in minor key. Although this piece is exceptionally splendid, passionate, and intense, the strong contrast between his disconsolate sentiments and inner changes also well appeared. This piece that reflects on his view of life and musical characteristics, is well presenting what kind of music he has sought for. In this sense, this paper will not only help go one step forward to understand his music, the outcome of the combination of Classicism with Romanticism but lead readers to rethink as to what he really wanted to show through his pieces from his point of view.
