Arthur Honegger의 “Danse de la Chèvre”와 Jacques Ibert의 “Pièce” 비교 연구

Abstract

19세기 말 프랑스에서 등장한 인상주의 양식은 회화와 문학에서부터 시작되었고 후에 음악에까지 그 영역이 확장되었다. 인상주의 음악은 다양한 화성과 풍부한 음색으로 미묘하고 색채적인 분위기가 강조되는 것이 특징이라 할 수 있다. 인상주의 작곡가들은 17세기 이후 계속 음악에 사용되었던 장·단조 조직과 소나타 형식이 한계에 다다랐다고 느끼기 시작하였으며, 인상주의 음악의 대표적인 작곡가인 드뷔시(Claude Debussy, 1862-1918)를 포함한 대부분의 인상주의 작곡가들은 교회 선법처럼 그들의 음악에 고풍스러운 멋을 부여한 다른 음계에 매력을 느꼈다. 그들은 4도, 5도, 8도 등 기초적 음정을 강조하였고, 중세 오르가눔(9-13세기까지의 다성 악곡)과 유사한 병행 화음을 사용하였으며, 장·단조의 음계 대신 중세 교회선법, 온음계와 5음 음계를 즐겨 사용하였다. 이러한 인상주의 음악은 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937)을 포함하여 20세기에 활동하였던 작곡가들, 특히 프랑스 작곡가들에게 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 아르뛰르 오네게르(Arthur Honegger, 1892-1955)는 프랑스에서 출생한 스위스 작곡가이고 프랑스, 스위스를 포함하여 미국에서도 활동하였으며, 프랑스 6인조(Les Six)의 일원이었다. 그는 프랑스에서 교육을 받으면서 드뷔시의 영향을 받았고 그의 여러 작품에서 드뷔시의 인상주의 음악적 특징이 발견되기도 한다. 그는 교향곡, 오라토리오, 발레곡, 실내음악 등 다양한 장르의 작품을 남겼으며 그 중 플루트 무반주 곡인『Danse de la Chèvre, 암산양의 춤(1921)』은 대중적인 플루트 레퍼토리로 자리잡고 있다. 이 작품은 춤을 추는 암산양을 묘사한 곡으로 조성이 불분명한 선율을 사용함으로써 다채로운 분위기를 느끼게 하며, 역동적인 리듬기법을 보여준다. 쟈크 이베르(Jacques Ibert, 1890-1962)는 그가 태어난 프랑스와 이탈리아 로마에서 주로 활동하였다. 그는 인상주의, 신고전주의 등을 포함하여 다양한 양식을 수용하였고, 다방면으로 작품활동을 하였다. 그의 음악에서는 관악기가 상당히 중요한 부분을 차지하는데 이것은 이베르가 관악기의 풍부한 음색에 매료되었음을 보여준다. 그의 작품들 중 플루트 무반주 곡인『Pièce, 작품(1936)』은 뚜렷한 조성이 드러나지 않는 서정적인 선율들의 흐름이 돋보인다. 본 논문에서는 인상주의 음악에 대해서 살펴보고 이와 더불어 오네게르의 작품『Danse de la Chèvre』와 이베르의 작품『Pièce』을 통해 두 작품의 음악적 특징을 연구하고 분석한다.;This thesis explores the characteristics of Impressionistic music and also examines musical careers and the tendencies of Arthur Honegger and Jacques Ibert by analyzing their seminal works, "Danse de la Chèvre" by Honegger and "Pièce" by Ibert. Impressionistic style emerged in the late 19th century France initially in the fields of painting and literature, then expanded to music. Impressionistic music is characterized by a subtle, colorful atmosphere emphasized by various harmonies and rich tones. Impressionist composers were beginning to feel that the tonality and the sonata form that had been in use since the 17th century have been exhausted to their fullest potential. Some Impressionist composers, such as the renowned Impressionist composer Claude Debussy(1862-1918), were attracted to alternative scales(such as the church mode) that provided some antique chic to their music. They emphasized primary intervals such as the octaves, the fourths, and the fifths, and used parallel motion similar to the organum(polyphonic music of the century to 9-13). In addition, they also enthusiastically substituted major and minor scale for church mode, whole-tone scale and pentatonic scale. Such Impressionistic music heavily influenced various 20th century composers, and especially the numerous French composers of that time such as Maurice Ravel(1875-1937). Arthur Honegger(1892-1955) was a French-born Swiss composer who operated in France, Switzerland, and the United States. He is known as having been a member of Les Six. He was influenced by Debussy when he was educated in France, and as such Debussy's Impressionistic musical features can be found in many of his works. He had produced works of various genres such as symphonies, oratorios, ballets, and chamber music. Among them, the flute solo piece "Danse de la Chèvre"(1921) is a popular flute repertoire. This piece, which describes the dance of a goat, evokes a colorful atmosphere through using melodies with unclear tonality and shows a dynamic rhythm technique. Jacques Ibert(1890-1962) worked mainly in France, where he was born, and in Rome, Italy. Ibert's works embrace a wide variety of styles including Impressionism and Neo-Classicism. Wind instruments form an integral part of his music, which shows that Ibert was attracted to the rich tones of such instruments. Among his works, "Pièce"(1936), a flute solo piece, shows the flow of lyrical melodies without clear tonality. This study discusses Impressionistic music and analyzes the musical characteristics of the two composers through "Danse de la Chèvre" by Honegger and "Pièce" by Ibert.
