dc.description.abstractWith the emergence of new TV media such as digital cable and satellite, the task of finding one's favorite program among hundreds of channels becomes a time consuming job. Furthermore, the channel zapping time of DTV is much longer than that of analogue one. To relieve the time overhead in channel navigation, this paper presents an intelligent channel navigation scheme for DTV channel selectors. The proposed navigation scheme analyzes each person's previous watching behavior in terms of recency and frequency, and then utilizes this information in the control of the up-down channel selector. Simulation studies show that the proposed scheme reduces the seek distance of the DTV channel navigation system by up to 68.7% under various conditions. © 2008 IEEE.*
